CECM Replacement - what part number?

electrical gremlins lead me to believe i need a new CECM for my mk6 golf r

does anyone know how much the part numbers matter in finding a compatible replacement?

currently has 1k0 937 087 M

a bit of background, maybe someone could help with diagnosing.

had the cecm replaced a few years ago when the drivers headlight was stuck on highbeam.
the shop that did it didn't code the new one correctly which was annoying, but everything worked.

recently i had moisture problems in the headlight.
after sitting outside a couple of weeks when there was a bit of bad weather, i went for a drive and noticed the drivers side front indicator was permanently on.
had to disconnect the battery for it to go out.

also have a problem with the auto headlights function, with the headlights staying on during the day.
not shown in the code because I've had the switch on off and cleared the code.
normally shows fault:
light switch, implausible signal 01800

the only exact replacement modules ive found so far are ordering through VW for $1200, or from ECS for $400USD

the logic in me says that as long as its the same part number (1K0 937 087) the modification number shouldnt matter as long as its the same or newer.

im still unsure what the Z number means, but its not listed in the scan.

part numbers on the mk6 platform are very specific, there might be a crossover on CECM units one can attempt.
I'm not able to shed too much light on that at this stage. I have not yet had to play with the mk6 and CECM swaps.

b6 Passat (3C) and mk5 platform, I have done a few. Again only crossover on some units.

i did find a reference saying anything with a b,d,f,h,k,m,p,r or t version should work as long as the serial number is the same or higher.

1k is mk5 though right?
i found loads of 5k cecm's but really dont want to risk trying any of them

The 087 bit is the important part, tells me you have a "highline" unit probably your car has xenon lights.
085 is low line and 086 mid line.
Any mk6 bcm with a suffix higher than yours will work as long as its 087xx etc

managed to pick up a cheap replacement thats a version P i think with the next serial number up.
seems to work fine just havent got it to accept the central locking from the key fob.

new cecm fixed the indicator stuck on problem, but not the auto headlights.
i think the rain light sensor may be busted or loose connection.

really unsure whats causing so many cecm problems.
some reasearch online suggests maybe a bad earth.
