Mk4 V5 timing chain replacement
« on: March 22, 2020, 06:48:26 pm »
Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone in this forum has DIYed replaced a timing chain on their mk4 golf.

I canít find anywhere to buy the cam locking mechanism to actually be able to replace the chain.

If someone could point me in the right direction to the tool or has one that could come give me a hand (Iím based in Auckland) for a box of beer and a little $$.

Cheers guys

You should perhaps ask this question in the technical section as well, might get more response over there.  :)

Not actually a cam locking bar, more alignment tool to hold cams in correct place. Flat steel strip does the same job.
Need to hold cams with a spanner anyway while tightening intermediate shaft sprocket bolt.
Gearbox off, clutch / flywheel off, inlet manifold off, rocker cover off and all timing covers off. In all a time consuming job.
