Waited 2 hours in the wind and rain outside Radio Pacific, way back, asked for an autograph after his guest spot, he looked at me and then signed the smallest signature possible then left, I took one look at the scribble and just said f you.

Fudge him ...  >:D

Much is made of his circuit racing, with complete justification but, to me, it was his Mille Miglia performance that was much more impressive - on one section he averaged over 150 mph - and this was on public, poorly maintained roads!

one of the all time great races... stirling moss and co-driver denis jenkinson, an early user of pace notes.

QuoteHis "secret weapon" was an 18-foot-long roll of pace notes -- "the toilet roll" -- that was coiled within a specially designed alloy box with a Perspex viewing window. At the time, such a system was quite ingenious and it was the only way the pair could hope to compete with the local knowledge of the Italian drivers, who had won the event every year since the war.
