So, after looking at Dr Youtube and Dr Google, i have decided to look at and corrosion treat the o'l R32 in the areas prone to rust on a mk4 golf using some Ardrox AV15 corrosion compound.

Two areas are prone to rust, around the tailgate open latch and around the inside bottom of the front fenders.

Removed the tailgate inside cover and inspected, still looked brand new. Applied the corrosion compound and closed up, no issues.

When removing the inner fender guards to inspect and treat the aft lower area, all i can say is WOW!! The mountain of moist dirt and debris that came out of those inner fender areas left me baffled, this car doesn't go anywhere near dirt roads so i was amazed, and not in a good way. All cleaned out nicely, i applied the compound and closed up.

Anyone with a mk4 golf, TRUST ME, open up those fender guards and get all the cr@p out of there and put some corrosion treatment in there, it WILL rust out if not attended to.

Now she's happy again.  :D

It's from all the crap on NZ roads.
None of the fresh from Japan cars have this in my experience, only cars that have been in NZ for some time.

Seems that way yes. That was 127 000 kms of buildup in there, 35 000 kms of those being NZ roads in the last 5 years since the car arrived.

I almost left this task for the future sometime thinking it'll be fine  :D  I am glad i didn't.

Does the mk2's, mk3's and mk5's have the same area behind the wheel arch inner fenders in which muk buildup can occur?, i would guess yes?
