Hey Mitch,

There seems to be a starter motor inhibitor switch relay (no 11 or no 16) under the dash as part of the many relays on this car that could be the culprit. Usually if its a starter unit fault, you might hear the starter engage but not turn over (usually a clicking noise from the starter itself) If you do not hear this click from the starter itself then it's most likely a relay or fuse.

See link below that might help. Scroll to the very bottom of the page to see the diagram.

hey, thanks superfueler! i can definitely hear clicking from the relay, im quite certain it could be the fuel pump as i dont hear it prime when i turn the key.  which is a shame because it was working this morning!

shop said it's pointing towards the fuel pump, so going to get an aftermarket one fitted (as need car ASAP). is there anywhere that's got decently cheap genuine VW fuel pumps for sale, or anyone on here? cheers :)

The first time i watched your video my volume was turned down so i did not hear the cranking from the starter which is obviously fine. Volume helps.  ::) ;D

yeah definitely. next thing to do is replace some engine hoses and find out where the small oil leak is, i think it's rocket cover gasket. do you know if they're easy to change/repair yourself?

I have never done a rocker cover removal / installation on these engines before, but if you have access to good tooling i would imagine its a DIY job. Youtube might help with some tutorials if you search.

I was going to say welcome to euro ownership, but you have owned a GTI before, so you knew what you were getting yourself into.  ;D ;D
