Mk6 1.4 Golf timing chain inspection

Is it possible to inspect the timing chain tensioner on the 1.4 twin charged engine. I have read there is an inspection bung on the 2.0T engine that allows you to read the part number?
Planing on booking the wife's Golf in for the chain/tesioner replacement tomorrow, but wanted to ensure it hasn't already been done.
At $2200 for the job, I wanted to make sure it was required.

Not done a 1.4 but it doesn't see so without removing the timing cover.
Seems expensive? At main dealer?

$2200 doesn't seem far off if it was a 'dealer' workshop.
It is pretty close to the quote I have received from Qualitat for 2.0 TSI engine.

Are 1.4 Chain/Tensioner known to stretch/fail as well? the internet seems all rage about 2.0s, but didn't see much regarding 1.4 issues.

Quick logic brings me that they would be using same parts for TSI engines of the same era, but then again, what do I know.

I'd read numerous times that the 1.4 twin charged required the newer timing chain and tensioner.
Yes, this quote was from the main dealer. I had another quote from an independent here in Dunedin and it was $2700.
It's not cheap but I don't want to risk a major hand grenade episode if it were to jump a tooth, and the car's done 116k.

Yes both are equally bad, similar set up on both.
I just don't bother with the 1.4 at all hence have never replaced one.
