Steering/ignition lock failure?
« on: January 19, 2021, 06:53:11 pm »
Hey all,

So sometime in the past couple of weeks, the steering wheel lock on my MK6 GTI has stopped engaging.

With the key removed, the steering wheel can be turned as far as you like, whereas previously it would lock after a slight turn.

Since the steering wheel lock has stopped engaging, it has been harder to turn the ignition on to start the car. The ignition seems to be engaging with the steering lock slightly, without actually locking the steering wheel.

Anyone seen this before? Any tips would be appreciated!

Resolved by replacing the ignition switch.

The key barrel was fine - simply removed the barrel and used it with the new switch.
