Scirocco Timing Chain Tensioner
« on: March 11, 2021, 05:12:53 pm »
Hi Guys. Just purchased a 2L TSI scirocco (CCZ Same engine as the mk6 GTI). Its done 80k kms and after an inspection it looks like it has the older style timing chain tensioner. Just been quoted $2.5k from Qualitat for a new timing chain, guides and tensioner. Is getting this work done worthwhile insurance ? It's a damn lot of money but still less than the cost of a new engine. Thanks

Definitely worth doing and I have done lots of them. Seen them fail under 60k km. Price seems high depending on what they replace.
I do them for around 1500 using only genuine parts.

$1500 seems like a good price. Qualitat had quoted me $2535. They said its 12 hours of work. They also replace the cam chain cover ($160 Part), guides and the chain its self. I trust them as a workshop but they might be including a bunch of other work/repacements while they are in there.

I'll be calling the dealer and some other workshops today to get some more quotes. Some previous posts on this forum said people were getting them done for sub $2k at the dealer. Thanks

Lol 12 hours work, that's laughable.
I'm able to do it for you as I said.

Hugh, let John do the work for you.

Concerned about his capabilities? Just review his projects.
