scanner for engine check and srs abs

Been trying to find a suitable scanner to scan my vw GTI 2009.

I have heard VDTS scanners are what I need but do VAG scanners such as this one below do the same thing?

VieCAR OBD2 Car Auto Diagnostic Scanner Tool Bluetooth 4.0 360° for Android iOS

Then downloaded the CarScan app in my iPad.

I have one of these and use it in all my cars, Lexus, Renault, Jeep, Ford, Toyota.

Has been a good tool for what I need it for and cost bugger all.

Can only assume it would work the same on a VW.
