Replacing battery on 2011 Touareg

Battery is starting fade and looks like a new one is due soon.
Do I need to provide an alternate 12v power supply to the car when the battery is being swapped out? I understand it may be needed to keep some settings e.g. radio, GPS.
If it is needed, will a 230v to 12VDC power supply be OK to use?
