The Red S3 on Trade-me is/was a dog. It was sold at Hammers about a month ago for $18500. Clutch was toast, woldn't rev past 3500 and was in general bad shape. It looks to have a service history but hadn't been serviced for a while.

Still the red does look good - lovely matching red gear lever boot too ;D

...got mentioned a while back. a little dodgy then and a little dodgy now.

It says its just had a cambelt at 120,000 but my owners manual says it doesnt need a cambelt till 180,000. Is this a difference with the pre-facelift/facelift models??

um actually when it comes to 1.8Ts you generally better off changing cambelt every 80,000 to 100,000 Kms but yeah that also varies with the different releases..

however better to be safe than sorry

a 600 dollar cam belt job is better than a "New Engine" job

The S3 manual states 180kms, but i know giltraps do the cam belts on S3s at 120kms. Another reason to charge you more perhaps?

seems strange given most manufacturers specify changing them anywhere from 80kms to 120kms.

personally, i'd have it done sooner rather than later.

Depends which country the car came from, my Australian S3 had a different figure to the same year NZ S3. The Audi dealer here was most interested in reading it - even took a copy. I don't recall what the figure was - can't check at the moment - in bed :)

Cheers, Ed.
