My water temp gauge has been playing silly buggers and form all the Passat forums the obvious problem is the Temp sensor at the back of the head
Quick search on the Internet for a replacement found several places with after market sensors ranging from US$6 - US$25.
But because I wasn't buying anything else at this time I thought I would buy from the local VAG dealer, so tracked down the engine model, chassis number and anything else that is needed when buying VAG parts, the quote was for NZ$95 including a rubber 'O' ring which is not part of the sensor but required
Not happy with this sort of ridiculous mark up from the stealership
I called the guys at Qualitat, who found the aftermarket sensor without the need of engine code, chassis number and had the stock item for NZ$55 including the 'O' ring.
Bought on Friday installed in under 5 minutes, problem solved.......
