Hi guys, where am I likely to source parts for the wee baby? Needing a front right bumper end, left front outer light & window rubbers etc.

Also need carb gaskets etc.

Mike

Engine/service parts as for Golf 1. Stealer will still have some of it, independent UK parts places such as GSF and Euro Car Parts will help you with the rest. All on t'internet.

Trim parts are likely to be difficult as these started becoming NLA in the early/mid '90s. UK is a very good bet for these too - check out some UK forums and ask there about parts places and specialists.

I would wait for another car to come up on TM and buy it for the trim bits - cheaper in the long run.

Agree with Mike. Dont waste your time and $ getting those hard to find mk1 rocco bits.
Look out for a second complete car....and futureproof all of your parts needs in one hit.

mk1 does not have a laminated front windscreen either....that would be my absolute first big expense.
Having one made here as soon as possible or importing a couple from offshore.
vwrally has a mk1 pre-facelift TS and might be keen on this too.

The mk2 rocco screen might be laminated and the same fit (and an easy car to find here) but ive never compared both cars side by side and checked it out.

Apparantly, Pilkington UK have them in stock.

About some parts for now, i have a number somewhere of a guy in Glenfield who has some parts (he is into mk2s mostly)
I will track it down...

Right, so correct me if I'm wrong. The Scirocco & Mk1 golf have the same chassis & running gear? Also is the dash & some interior components the same also?

Mike

Yes, the Mk 1 Scirocco has the same suspension, running gear and engines as the Mk1 Golf of the same era. There is quite a bit of backwards compatibility with VAG products, which gives rise to interesting prospects such as (for example) a much later 16V GTI engine and gearbox able to bolt straight in, though the wiring loom would need a bit of sorting for a project like that. Aftermarket springs, dampers etc for the Mk1 GTI can all be used to upgrade a Mk1 Scirocco. I think there might be some minor differences here and there, such as the airbox(??) but nothing to worry about. So from the mechanical point of view, you can consider it almost the same as a Mk1 Golf of the same era.

Trim is a different matter. Some stuff such as door handles, seat adjuster knobs, stalks, switches might well be the same as a Mk1 Golf, but I think the dash is different, and there are a lot of unique interior and exterior trim parts such as rear lights, door trims, headlining, bumpers, grille etc which will be difficult to find. As I've done with my 80 quattro, I'd source the most commonly used bits and keep them as spares, especially warrant items such as indicator stalks, headlights, headlight switches, rear lights and indicators, which could keep your car off the road for weeks if you had to source them when they fail.

I'd seriously get another car as a donor vehicle, it is an extra initial outlay to be sure, and the wife won't like a donor vehicle parked on the back lawn with a blue tarp over it held down with old bricks that she sees every time she puts the washing out, nor the extra expenditure on what she sees as junk, but it will save you a lot of hassle and money in the long run.

Hey, thanks for the info, much appreciated. Will have to keep an eye out for a donor car.

Hi Peter, this contact i have up here has been out all week (getting the answerphone)

Will let you know as soon as i make contact, pm BB he might have some stuff, think he has some rocco rear tailights at least.
And i saw a spare windscreen lastime i was there.
Is the engine the 1.5 or the 1.6? round or retangular airfilter?

1joe

Hi, it is 1.5l & rectangular filter similar to the later 80's & 90's. Will try BB.
Thanks for your help.
