Will get an english manual to look at. Do you know if the 4 motion Golf had the same seats?
Surely someone here knows?
Yeah I like the chrome side strips, don't know if I'll use them tho. Will have to see how it works in the grand scheme of things to come.

I'd assume the Golf had the Recaros as an option, but I haven't seen one with them in NZ yet.

Holy crap you have been busy! :o

A shame to see a nice car get stripped, but the end results will be so worth it.  >:D

Should get the rest of it apart tomorow and can then split the gearbox off the engine so that we can start mocking phils car up with the new motor.
After the engine is out I want to pull the rest of the wiring and firewall, pull all the LHD stuff out and chuck that away. Its quite amazing just how well designed these cars are from a LHD to RHD perspective.
Flipping the loom over may be the best way yet, I think it will seriously cut down the amount of wires that need to be cut and lengthened.

so you are using the the other cars loom, or are you going to lengthen th loom now, I'm a little confused.

Well, the Bora and the Jetta are both LHD. Since the Bora has more toys and will retain all of them i'll try to use the loom from the Bora but flip the whole lot over so that it cuts down on lenghtening wires. I haven't yet confirmed if this will work, otherwise i'll have to lenghthen as required.

Then we've just got to figure out how to get a LHD Jetta loom into a RHD Mk3 wagon. Shouldn't be too hard for John  ;D

It appears that John can do anything...or many things at once as the case may be.

This mornings efforts resulting in another car coming apart  ;D. Yep with a minutes respectful silence and a cursory thought to "why the hell are we taking a perfectly good car apart again?" we started tearing down the Jetta.

My apologies for the terrible pic but I just to post a "before" picture  ;D. This was taken about 9am - John has a few "after" shots I think.

Never fear though - the finished result of all of this destruction will be one of the coolest Mk4s to grace NZ roads.

Thats what I thought too, but the finished product is going to be amazing. I went for a ride in this car just prior to it being stripped down & its super fast so with the stage 3 Super charger & the 4m running gear it will be mind blowing.

Work starts on the Jetta again next week. Been busy with compliance work on my 79 Beetle but with that out of the way now I can get back to the Jetta. The engineer is coming to take a look at everything first so that I can get it all certed. He seems to think that it will be no problem since it is mainly bolt out/in.
I got a brand new rhd steering rack to overcome the crack testing issues etc, besides these things are notorious for leaking so new is best.
Will post some pics when I start.

The SC engine is out so assembly can begin this week hopefully. there's no turning back now! Man it feels bad to be pulling a perfectly good car apart!

Cant feel as bad as crashing a perfectly good car ;) You do some awsum work Vert1.
The end is nigh, but the end of what is the question?

got anymore pics from directly in front of the engine?  I'm interested in the oil filter housing and oil cooler, looks like the oil cooler bolts to the oil filter housing rather than directly to the block like on the 12v VR6.  Wondering what that all looks like and whether it's simpler.

oil cooler is part of the filter housing, its bolted on ata 45 deg angle with the filter hanging straight down. Quite a compact unit actualy. The oil cooler doesn't look any different from a MK2-3 one.

Car is going back together in leaps, all the wiring loom is back in eventhough it still has to be changed in places for RHD. Urethaned the RHD bulkhead in tonight and got the brake booster back in, ABS back in and will do the brake lines tomorow. With a bit of luck the motor and box will go back in next week. Realy thought this would take way longer to do but things are happening in a hurry. I'm sure it will grind to a halt when the wiring job begins.
Decided to convert it to climate air too since the donor car has it. It was half a days work to install/modify the actuators on the aircon box for the climate as the donor car was also LHD the actuators work back to front. Had I looked at it more closely I probably wouldn't have bothered and just kept the regular AC.
Might get the pedals and AC lines in later in the week in readiness for the engine.
Will post some pics tomorow.
