Still having some fun with the immobiliser on the A4. Have had the wiring redone as per the common B5 ignition fault but I am still getting regular issues. So we have decided it must be the key (only got one). Does anyone have a contact for issuing and coding new keys??? Any help would be appreciated. Cheers...

Call or see your nearest dealer: I went to CCS and got a new key for my golf: not cheap, but it can be programmed and cut onsite.

Armstrongs can supply and cut, but can't programme, apparently. They recommeded I go to CCS for programming.

I was quoted around $360 for a new key for the S3.. so you're right.. they're not cheap! I think the valet key (no remote central locking :() was around $180.

So i still play russian roulette everyday hoping not to lose my key.. I'm told if you don't have a key for the programmers to match, then the ecu must be sent to germany for a key to be made.

My one key came with a tag that apparently is the CPU code, which enables a VAG dealer anywhere in the world to remake a key to fit...I have no idea what I've done with it, though.

I too have been told that without the original key (or a duplicate coded key) and/or the tag, you will have to get the CPU reprogrammed off-site... I think Germany was the only option.

Cheers, guys. Not what I was hoping to hear though...  :-\

Think I might have the tag you are talking about in my service book. Thanks for the heads up.

Well, I think my '97 A4TQ came originally with 2 normal keys and a service key. I only got one and the service key. Service key is plastic and turns the ignition on, but won't start the car...

If you lose all your keys you do not have to send your ecu anywhere. Any dealer can order a key with your chassis number and it will usually arrive within 3-4 days cut to match your car, however you still need to get your car to the dealer to have the transponder in the key coded to your car.

That looks like the road I have to take.

FYI:

$145 Key ex Germany
$45  Scan (to confirm it was the key in the first place)
$8    Freight
$35 - 70.00 Labour to code new key

If you know categorically that it is the key, you can probably omit the scan cost. This is from the lads at German Automotive.

Quite often lost or stuck in a coat-pocket somewhere.

I had a car that had 12 keys cut for it (ex-gran's car). I managed to find only 7 for the new owner.

Every now and again I find a key and chuck it out.
