That's what I mean - the front bumper itself is the same, it's the rub strip that has the plate recess in it.

Standard NZ plate on Jap/US rub strip:

Hey guys

FYI

if you wish to do Euro Plate Recess Conversion for your MK4

For the Front bumper you are required only to buy a new Rubstrip. you can purchase pre primed ready to paint ones of these fresh from Neil at CCS or Simon at Giltraps..

i think they sell for around 100 dollars interestingly the Jap style one sells for even more! the rub strip just clips straight in to your exisitng bumper

and for the Rear bumper

you will need to purchase a whole new bumper with the Euro Sized Recess

This will also be unpainted (naturally) but you can buy these new from 280 - 400 dollars depending where you go and availability

i recommend buying genuine VW bumpers as the fitment is far superior to that of after market

The exercise can be completed for less than 1000 dollars and if you are really conscious about the visual appearance of your vehicle its a worth while spend including paint (depending on your paint shop)

in my opinion its very much worth while if you bought a japo import and hate the i cant fit nz sized plates look!

here is a before and after of my MKIV GTI if you havent seen it already!

After:

So ball is in your court but IMHO its very worth while and cleans up and uncongests the look of the whole car..

that and colour coding your front and rear valances also helps (but thats another thread alltogether)
