Interested in the value you put on a 2001 B5 S4. When I started looking requested a red book valuation

http://www.redbookasiapacific.com/rbcert/view.php?id=260042 (sorry if this doesn't paste in as a link, valuation is online until 7/2/08)

Maybe k's a bit low (75km), but came up with $35k trade in, $41k retail. Comments?

Who said that the "Red Book" has any authority in car pricing?

Best way to do this is to get someone from this site with an S4 B5, go to Giltraps/CCS and make out that you want to trade for something new, guys be prepeared to be put in to shock, ask Beeker about his friend with a 2003 S3 trading it in for a B5 RS4, they offered him 15k for the S3! A mint B5 S4 is 25k all day long  :-\

I will just keep my 2001 B5 MTM black Avant S4 done 65k, lots of life left yet ;D

never trade unless you want to pay someone 30% of your car value to sell it for you.
some people can afford to forgo the hassle though.

I wouldnt think its 30%, especially once the car is yard ready. Maybe 10-15% on average?

yard ready?

what would that involve that's worth a couple of grand?

I had a c&p plus exterior and interior done for $150.

Maybe a service. But they do the absolute minumum right? $300 or even less (trade price)

Some yards replace the cambelt/waterpump if needed which is pretty good. I made the caryard replace the cambelt on a car I purchased. They sent me the invoice (as proof that it had been done) $350.

Depends on the car, you can spend 2K on just a set of tyres these days, then there is paint and panel, professional groom, maybe a service.
It depends on what the condition of the car is, most owners look at there cars with rose tinted glasses as well.
I just know the going ons at Dads yard, mind you, they have the best presented cars in HB IMO.

true,  i spent nearly a grand preparing my a4 for sale, ($600 of which was a respray to get rid of the stone chips) but i was prepared to do that knowing i could get at least 5k more than trade in selling privately. but i guess sometimes it's not worth the hassle for people.

Still looking, trying to be patient - Iain's Mum's black RS4 was tasty, but alas don't have $60k. Would appreciate a rough guide on what's reasonable asking price, say for these cars on TM. $35-38k? Too steep (unless you're selling of course!)

Thanks. So you reckon Jap import's ok, with a service history/reputable dealer? How about the tiptronic? Had a blat around Manfield last year in my Merc, but its an auto, and while it was great fun, I was meat and drink on the exits for anything with a manual box!

as long as you get a 3rd party warranty (autosure/protecta) you should be covered for anything the dealer warranty covers you for (and more).
jap imports seem to be fine, but most people give singapore cars a wide berth.

transmission is personal preference. never driven an audi tip so can't comment.
