Hi All,
Can anyone help me with some info on doing the cambelt on a 1991 Audi 100 Turbo. I've been told it's a specialist job and she's due for one now. Anyone know where I can get this done and how much?

Thanks,
Andy

Will do! Thanks mate!? :)

So if I was to do it myself would I need any special tools or is it just like any other car? I've done a Galant and a Skyline one but never an Audi so I was wondering how much different they are.

Cheers,
Andy

Hi there Andy, I havnt done the cam belt on my 200 turbo yet but its past due.  From working on other bits and pieces there is nothing particularly strange about audi compared to any other car.  Good idea to research the job first though.  Have a look on audiworld.com in the forums, you can narrow it down by searching for cambelt.  There is lots of good links from there too.

Have just repaired the combination switch on mine (headlights, wipers etc) and thought that it could have been made better, but was designed 25 yrs ago, no doubt with the usual budget and time constraints.  A tricky dicky mechanism that must have been someones pride and joy once upon a time.   Cheers.

Oh, forgot to mention, i'm pretty sure you need some special or made up tool to hold the crankshaft nut or similar, done up with some hell sized wrench.

I have a tool to hold the crank pulley if you would like to borrow it.
PM me if interested.

Well I had Qualitat do it and it was just over $800 including all new belts and waterpump etc. Unfortunately the alternator belt started slipping in my way to Thames on Saturday which was my first long trip in the old girl. I'm sure the qualitat guys will make good and fix the belt again. It's a hell of a nice car and I'm very happy with it. Now I've just got to get the drivers door window working, dash lights going and make the ABS light go out and I'll be happy, and I've got a saggy hoodlining to glue up again! If anyone has a drivers door motor for sale or any tips on the repairs let me know and thanks very much to those who offered tools etc.

Cheers,
Andy

Its hard to get the belts right first time. you dont want to over tighten them but they need to wear in before you can get em right. basically right is as loose as you can get them without them sqealing so you dont over loadd all the bearings of course.
