IMHO, I reckon condition and history are important. I've never seen a really mint RS2 for sale, apart perhaps from the one that was on this forum a while back.
I looked at a couple a year or so ago that were similar mileage and around $45-55K, but I thought they were too rough for that money.
$40k sounds right, but I'd look for the usual signs of wear and knock off $ accordingly:
-crashy suspension
-worn rotors
-tyres (RS2 is special tyre size and could be $$$)
-gearbox noise
-oil leaks
-scratched alloys
-damaged or badly repaired bodywork
-etc...
Of course if it's totally mint and had only had one or two owners I reckon it would be worth quite a bit more.

Is this the same car that went to Dunedin last year?

Agree with Simon here. I guess history and what you don't have to pay afterwards is pretty important. Pads, discs, tyres, suspension, turbo, engine, gearbox etc etc you easily set fire to another 10-20k if you pay someone else to fix/upgrade those items. Obviously contacts and ability to DIY could save some but parts are still neither plentiful or cheap. Agree with Simon that to get a mint one you are going to required a budget higher than 40k, purchase is just the first step.

Good luck, keep this thread updated.

surely your(Rexs) s2 would be better, with the mods youve done, than a factory rs2? and you want to sell yours dont you?

SimonS2

S2 with chip, exhaust, etc. feels quicker than a stock RS2, I guess due to less lag, as Rex notes. Top end (above 5,500RPM) won't match however without all the other RS2 bits (turbo, cams, injectors, inlet manifold, exhaust manifold, etc).
AND, no matter how fast it goes an S2 will never beat the unique 'pedigree' of an RS2? :-\

SimonS2

True, and in NZ I think there was about the same number of each sold (a dozen or so?). In Auckland you see just as many RS2s as S2s on the road.
Mine will be on RS2 'cup' rims shortly, just to confuse things.

RS ZWEI

Seems like there might be 1 or 2 RS2s changing hands at the mo.
