Title: Drove the new B9 RS4 today
Post by: beeker on June 13, 2018, 07:09:05 PM
Overall, very impressed.

Got to drive it at Hamptons in anger and back to back with the B8 RS4
Fast, good handling, quality interior, good looking and most importantly fun to drive.
It continues in the tradition of fast Audi RS wagons.

Will I trade the C7 RS6?
Immm tough call.
If I had a B8 RS4, definitely yes, but the RS6 C7 is a more modern car than the B8, still slightly faster than the B9, so the gap is closer.
The B9 will definitely handle better than the RS6 C7 thou.
Wait and see?

A mate took me for a spin in a loaner RS5 today. Basically the same car as above without the boot and back doors. Very very sorted car and fast. A big tick for Audi Sport. I still prefer a manual though - as boring and repitive as that sounds. And the exterior styling isn?t really doing it for me. I quite like the new RS4 though. And I?m sure it will continue to grow on me over the next year or so.

And the surprise is that they have gone back to a slushbox Auto.
But like the rs6, it?s a brilliant Auto box, even when changing manually.

does the handling respond to throttle inputs ?

eg, if you lift off in a corner will the nose tuck in ?

Yes, in the context of a road car
The 180 sweeper at hamptons allowed you to play with the throttle to pull in or push out the nose
For a road car, it?s a great package, not perfect, but very good
I always liked the b5 engine (over the b7), always liked the b7 chassis (over the b5), and the b9 has that great turbo engine and great chassis.

In many ways yes.
Rs6 has slightly more power, but the rs4 overall package is better
Depends what attributes you weight as higher importance thou

When you drive the b8 back to back to the b9, the different is very obvious
B8 is a great car, b9 a definite step up

awesome! Well your rs6 is a little long in the tooth now... ;) I think you should!

I wish the B5 had the chassis of the B7, yes you can 'make' it handle better but out of the box it really is a let down. If the B9 makes up for the 'averageness' of the B8 and is both, i think it will end up being a good seller.

I really like the styling of the new car, wheel option growing on me...

I see they?ve already started tuning them. Don?t think I would bother though.
