Just wondering if anyone had used these guys to get their displays fixed? http://www.speedotronics.co.nz/repair-services/audi-instrument-cluster-faults
I emailed them to get a rough quote but havent heard back from them yet. I heard it normally costs around $800 if you get it done at Giltrap or done by http://www.robinsoninstruments.co.nz/ Anyone have any experience with getting it done?
Interested in this too
No experience with any of them but let me know how you get on. The A4 is missing a few lines on the LCD.
Just heard back from the guy at speedtonics. It's $400 plus gst to get it fixed and another $90 plus gst for them to remove the cluster and put it back in
My lcd died in my B5 passat a few years back,
i got a 2nd hand cluster for about 100$ (entire cluster not just LCD)
had it coded to my vehicle (needs to be paired with your engine and key fobs)
- personally did not do this, Anton did all the work, and only charged me a romantic dinner for the two of us.
Yeah apparently that is how giltrap does it if you take it to them. My only issue is a have a Le Mans A4 and I don't really want to loose my white dials
I'm resurrecting a very old thread here but it was the first one that came up in the search.
I recently used Robinson Instruments (http://www.robinsoninstruments.co.nz (http://www.robinsoninstruments.co.nz)) as per the OP to replace all three DIS LCDs in my B5s. It's a fairly simple process to pull the cluster - you can search google for 'how to's'. I would also suggest putting a cloth over your steering column to prevent it getting scratched. The only tools you need are a T20 and flat head screwdriver (although you can get away with the latter if you have to). I pulled my clusters and took them in and they were ready in 24 hours. They source the screens from Italy apparently. I won't say what I paid but it was significantly less than the $800 per cluster in the OP. They have one more in stock and can get more in if anyone wants to get this done. I suggest you mention Jon H referred you. You are welcome to PM me to ask what I paid.
Here are the displays back working properly (2 of the pics showing an output test):

By the way these screens are the same as the A3 and A6 of that era.
Sorry to revive a dead thread, but I was hoping to get some help.
le mans, I believe bought my S4 from you a couple of years ago. I guessing the first dashboard picture in your last post is from the same S4?
I believe the instrument cluster in my S4 has just failed. It was working fine yesterday, but this morning, no backlights, no screens, only a few diagnostic lights. Engine cranks, initially fires, then is blocked by the immobilizer (read error codes with VCDS).
Would Robinson Instruments be a good options to try repair this?
That?s a bugger. Yes that top photo will be the S4 (I did all three cars at the same time). You could definitely get in touch with those guys to enquire. I would possibly contact anythingelectronic in Nelson first though, who will be closer to you: http://www.anythingelectronic.co.nz/aenz/
They repaired an ABS controller on another of my B5s and it hasn?t let me down since.
Amazing, thank you. Will contact them now.
