Title: Passat CC 2010 Japanese import
Post by: wez130 on October 12, 2017, 05:49:41 PM
Hi guys, first post here :) I have bought a 2010 Passat CC Japanese import, it still has the Japanese maps on, what's the easiest way to change them to NZ? If possible at all! Also, weirdly, it doesn't have a Bluetooth connection. What's the easiest and most cost effective way of retrofitting it, ideally with bluetooth audio. Thanks

Welcome to forums.
With the maps and GPS there are 2 options.
1. Get a NZ VW radio that has the features that you want. It will cost you a bit, but will keep the factory fit out.
2. Get a replacement off AliExpress that runs Android, and looks like the factory unit. There are a lot of options out there and I've tested a few now. They might not be the same quality, but I'm really happy with mine, and when it gets delivered to your front door for under $400 you can't complain really.

Hi, thanks McDoof. I was contemplating this as a solution as European OEM is sounding like an expensive way to go. What's the sound quality like on these ones from aliexpress?

Thanks

I only used it through the built in amp for a short time after removing the basic VW radio from my MK5. It sounded better than the entry level radio. I now run it through a class D amp that is installed under the passenger seat and I have put a sub in the boot, so it sounds great.
The best thing for me is having Spotify and live google maps directly on the head unit.
If you go down this route, just make sure you get a unit with at least 2GB of RAM. Anything less runs like an overloaded donkey.

Which of the Joying units do you have? Does it support the reverse camera and the steering wheel controls? I'm not sure what connections they are on my 'MY10 'CC'. I really don't want to buy the wrong one, i like the look of the 10.1" one with no buttons, i was watching a review on youtube last night and it looked good, however i don't think it fits flush like the OEM unit.

That one would be best for me, as long as it supports the original reverse camera and steering wheel buttons, it says it does but then...

QuoteNote:
1) Joying head unit can't support like below: iPod, original car GPS antenna, original car back up rear camera, original car bluetooth, original car USB as well original car Microphone

I have this one.

The original VW camera will work with the radio but you will need to get an adapter to convert the output. Check what your connector looks like and then you can see what adapter you need.

Thanks, where do you get the adapter from?

Looks about right, yes.
Just make sure your plug looks the same

Hello, i received my Joying head unit as i posted above and i've fitted it, works a treat, and the centre console looks much cleaner now :D Thanks for the recommendation. I have one more question for now, i noticed theres an input on the back of the HU for a sub, do i need an amp for that too, or can i just plug a sub straight in to it? Probably a stupid question but no harm asking haha.

Also, my reverse camera adapter arrived this morning, i've plugged it in to the correct plugs, but where should i wire the 3 wires to? (Batt+ / back / GND)?

Thx
