Mine:
94 S2, Silver.
MRC Chips, Samco hoses, Milltek cat-back+decat, H&R Cup Kit, Whiteline Rear ARB, Powerflex bushes, alloy topmounts, camber kit (rear), RS2 copy rims, Carbon Technik rad shroud (hope for more CT goodies one day...).

In the garage I have an RS2 inlet manifold and intercooler. Plan to add those along with RS2 or hybrid turbo to improve breathing.

95 RS2, Black, MTM chip at factory, H&R Adjustable coil overs, Powerflex bushes, Alloy topmounts. Moving forward just standard maintenance, may upgrade brakes to big reds when the discs need replacement. Other than that its moving to weekend use only as now daily in Flixs old Mk1 Gti, which is simply an really fun car to zip around in.

Slight HP increase 330 or so, less lag, and more torque.

94 S2, black, 130K

Milltek back & decat, Mark H mod and bad Mak alloys, so pretty standard.

It's in Giltrap's basement at the moment waiting for new clutch slave and master cylinders to arrive from Germany...then might need to wait another 3 weeks for a pressure plate. Loving that.

The next purchase will definately be a new warranty...anyone recommend a good company to use?

Mods to do - decent alloys, chip, samco, brakes, lower it a bit...the usual suspects, and in no particular order.

Can't really say I noticed a power increase ... in fact initially there seemed to be a power decrease!  However after 'running in' the system it is back to as is was before with possibly a touch more grunt.  Yes, I installed the full system including cat.

Drove my new RS2 out to Piha today, what a machine!

You really don?t get a feel for the car around the city, my R32 is much better, but the story is a very different one on the country roads, the RS2 covers the ground so quickly, the RS2 maybe over 12 years old but its still a formidable machine.

They handle so well don't they.
You soon forget that they weigh in at 1600kg's! The brakes are fantastic.
It's like the Ur, they are a bit sluggish round town, but let them loose on the highway and man do you get a smile.
I'm glad you bought one, this seems to be the right car with the right owner, who will have many years of fun together.

Nice Simon, are you going to fit a euro plate, P/plate at all?

Also, does it have leather?
Title: Re: RS2/S2 Owners - Your cars please
Post by: R32 Simon on June 21, 2007, 05:10:44 PM
Yes it has the full leather & it?s very slippy! I may change the lumber to suede, or do you have any suggestions?

The Euro plate is on its way!

Also Nick it has a detachable tow bar but a small cut has been made to fit it, can you get a detachable tow bar that actually fits rather than having to cut away the rear bumper?

Cheers

I've read that there is an OEM removable tow-bar for S2, which I guess fits RS2 (unless the RS2 bumper is deeper). Apparently it is still available, but is big $$$.

Awesome car Simon - getting one in black is a great score too IMO.

This is a bit left field - but would I be out of line in suggesting that if cars are generally considered female gender then having "DYK" on the plate is quite suitable for a more "butch" vehicle like the RS2  ;) :D

Need to find towbar first. It is in a box, in storage, in our garage somewhere. Might only find it when we move into new house in couple of months. If I get an chance I will go scratch. You will need to look under bumper to see if the audi crossbar/ reinforcing bar is under bumper. Quite deep in. Should have a roundish hole wher towbar clips into. Cheers.

Was driving along today when I realised slow b-stard in front towing the trailer was a RS2, and  after a triple take, confirmed it was Gunmetal Grey!!!. All external parts got the trainspotters tick. Have heard of this car before but was a bit scheptical as this is not a factory RS2 color. Can only speculate that this must be the one that was reshelled into a S2 body when trashed early on. Looked in good shape other that doing 60 in an 80 zone  >:(.

It was me and it's very embarrasing!! Had collected the Car on Saturday and desperate to drive it so given it had a tow bar offered to pick up a sofa from waiku for the Mrs, sadly later found out that the Trailer didn't fit the tow bar properly hence driving like a snail, bloody dangerous!! never again. Anyway other than that enjoying the RS2. It's Black not Grey and Rego is DYK 597. Simon's old Car. Mystery solved!! Spending $7500 getting glass out lower half paint in the near future the it wil be A1.

Those k's aren't suprising at all  :D

I think handling could do with a upgrade by this time.  polyurethane bushes (although not particularly cheap) will tighten up all the control arms, etc and an upgraded rear anti-roll bar will neutralise some of the understeer that the quattros are all dogged with from the factory.

This might come as a shock - 211,989KM  :o

It was bought NZ new by my father, and it has been up and down the country quite a few times.

The last few S2s out of the factory went thru Audi's motorsport division, and luckily we got one. There are no other modifications as of yet - I would love to have RS2 front and rear bumpers on it, and then upgrade the brakes, and a new sport grill, and a number of other bank-emptying things. But right now, it's fairly standard. What cheap and beneficial upgrades are out there?

Here's another pic:

Here's another pic:

Genuine front and rear RS2 bumpers (if you could find any) would set you back around $5000 at least, by the time you landed them in NZ.  Then you need to find Porsche 993 lights to suit - there's another $1000.  There is a damaged front bumper on german ebay right now for 750 Euro.

You might like to look at the Rieger front (a very close copy of the RS2 in abs) - I am about to bring one in myself direct from Germany, and it is going to end up costing around $1500 landed, without GST, lights, headlamp washers or painting.  That was with a very favourable freight charge.

http://www.bodykitsuk.com/en/products/audi/80/styling/b4-r-rs-rieger-front-bumper,-abs.html

(https://www.vask.org.nz/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bodykitsuk.com%2Fimages%2Fprodimages%2Frieger%2F00039020lrg.jpg&hash=f782e1a6f1c8e5bca729a206364634ad2605f30c)

Any brake upgrades worth doing will be at least $2500 using used calipers, best sourced from the USA. The current preferred path is porsche 996 4-pot brembo calipers mounted on machined brackets from the Seat Ibiza with 323mm A8 discs, but that would not quite fit unless you either used smaller discs, or changed to 17" wheels.

RS2 "little red" calipers are no longer considered as a value-for money upgrade, and the 996 monoblocs are supposedly more reliable.

Details, here: http://www.slybadger.com/cars/s2/brakedetail.htm

What are the modifications that you believe have been made to give the horsepower figure that you are quoting?  I'm afraid your story about run-out models having been worked on in some way at the factory is not a story that I have ever heard before, and I have lurked in all the S2 forums for many years.

Nice car ! :)

This site might interest you, if you have not already seen it:  http://www.s2central.net/main_frame.html

QuoteS2 Coupe manufacture ceased towards the end of 1995 in line with chassis number WAUzzz8BzTA001775.

registered NZ 1996?  Probably a MY1996 car, but unlikely to have been built in calendar year 1996 (Model years run from july to june)

I'll have a look at the Rieger front, the price seems pretty good  :)

I will find out a bit more about the HP details - the above story is the one I have been told by my father who had the car imported. I *think* it has effectively been chipped.

I've begun hunting around S2 sites and have been impressed on the extensive amount of information and the quality of the forums. I think it would be good if somebody was to start a wiki though...

Rieger closeup, here:

http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29985&highlight=rieger

and here:

http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23388&highlight=rieger

The guys on that forum do not seem to realise that Rieger make a separate "carrier bar" that is needed to mount the lights and the bumper, so they have been messing about making their own brackets.

The Rieger factory has no agent in NZ, so they will sell direct to us, and that works out a whole lot cheaper than buying from UK or Australian agents

Hi Lee
Well done on the car. Good nick, especially inside.
Took it for a test drive. ( If it is the one from Hamilton.) and would recommend you do a couple of checks on the car.
I have driven about 8 - 10 RS2's in my lifetime, in all different stages of tuning, and that one is very slow. If you think it is quick then wait until you have it sorted.
Have the cambelt timing checked, it might be out by a tooth. Also check the sparkplugs and make sure they are RS2 originals. Replace the 710N valve and check the connections where the intercooler plugs into the metal crossbar for leaks. those are pretty simple things you can do that will hopefully make a huge difference.  Also can replace your N75 valve. Let us know how you get on.

All the best.

What would be a good indication of normal performance in a standard RS2? Problem I see is that because RS2s are faster than most Car's then they feel very fast but as you say above may actually be slower than full potential.

The thing that makes you grin from ear to ear on the RS2 is when the turbo kicks in when you have pedal to the metal in 2nd gear. When yours is sorted you will know what I mean. Be careful not to fix the problem by chipping- you will just mask the problem.
At about 5000rpm your car runs a bit rough and revs out very slowly to the redline. You should feel a big difference there as well when sorted.

All the best.

Here's my S2...hasn't changed much since I bought it back in 2005.

The previous owner had a thing for bad alloys, stickers and red paint, so my only "mods" so far have been:

"QUATTRO S2" door stickers - gone
MAK alloys - gone thank God and soon to be on TM. Now original 16" Avus with new shoes.
Red painted wheel nuts (?!) gone.

Now back to standard apart from a custom downpipe and de-cat Milltek exhaust.

Might be up for sale soon...

I believe the owner has had the car for all but the first year of ownership. I think Wilco knows him or of him?
Seems like its the same spec as my car.

Yep, I have all the names of all the RS2 owners.
The current owner (but in a different names on the ownership papers) has had this car since 97.
The first owner of this car was Roger Bhatnagar, he also owned a McLaren F1 road car (XP4?).

I am not sure taking a picture of someone elses car when in for repair work and also airing it's faults without asking them first is a very good thing to do.  :'(

Hey guys
Got my hands on this 1994 S2.
Its a awesome little car. It has a few little things to improve due but still goes really well. I don't know if or what mods have been done to it but I love it.

Welcome to the forum, great looking car.
What needs to be improved?
As for mods, it has been optioned up with 17 in wheels.
Has anyone played with the external wastegate?

I really dont know what mods have been done. Im going to have look in the log book and a chat to the mechanics at work (Giltrap) to see if they notice any mods. The old number plate was UNCOND and i know the guy who owned it looked after it. I put a euro plate on it just to make it look nicer. There has obvious wear and tear in the interior such as the leather on the steering wheel as perished a bit. I gave it a good cut and polish when i bought it which made it look awesome.

thats a sweet ride!

welcome!

I think I saw this car on College Hill a couple of months back - it was looking pristine. Was that you? Lovely looking car.

Saw your car a few months back too. I was driving down College Hill & had to U-turn to snap a photo. Looks great. What Audi colour is it?

I'm no expert on S2 VINs by any means - but decoding your car's VIN (http://s2central.net/vin_entry_sonic.html (http://s2central.net/vin_entry_sonic.html)) gives a 1995 model year.

I was having a new set of Bridgestone RE002s fitted to my S2 by a guy at Firestone in Henderson (for an excellent price) - the previous owner took your car there for years as have we with ours. Do you know if your car was imported with the last batch of S2s to NZ as well? He seemed to think that it was & had ECU modifications done by Audi, as did mine. I've had this story told to me by Dad also.

I have no evidence (yet) from Audi to suggest that this was the case, but I'm waiting for the dealer who sold our one to us to give me a bit more info when he returns from Europe. I think he may even work for Giltraps now? Duane was his name.

I saw the previous owner in his S5 on the motorway a few months ago - same UNCOND plate on it. Nice car.

There was a Duane Jarrett who was the Audi service manager for Conti's for several years, now works for Tristram European

Duane still works for CCS, albeit manager on Wairau road.
Although i have heard things are changing there, maybe he is one of the casualties  :-\

Hey yea thats my car off College Hill and you are right about the date of the model. I went to get a spare key made and had to get a chip put in it which only 1995 models have. For some reason it is registered as a 1994 even though its a 1995. Im yet to talk to the people at giltrap about any mods that have been done but it wouldnt surprise me if there have been. There is a little switch under the steering wheel which would have been used for a radar jammer. Bit gutted its not still there.
I dont know a Duane at giltrap so he must work at CCS. Will let you guys know when i find some info about it.

You will want a bigger down pipe

http://www.034motorsport.com/engine-components-audi-i5-20vt-downpipe-20v-i5-stock-location-turbo-p-504.html

And they also do a nice 3" exhaust

And while you there

I picked up a Milltek cat-back system on here last year, courtesy of bsting & Nik. It has made a significant difference to the car and I would certainly recommend them.

My RS2, recently bought from Wellington. Believe it has a cool history and as soon as I know more I will update. Seems to have come in direct from Porsche and may be the only Guards Red RS2 in the World. Has a very strange chassis number also and I don't mean the one logged in LTSA system....  ;) ;D

Details I know so far:

Arrived from Porsche directly and was registered as a German import, but RHD. The stamped chassis number on bulkhead is not like any other Audi stamping, I believe it is either a special build or a RHD development car from Porsche factory. The chassis number is only 10 digits long and looks hand stamped. It doesn't show up on ELSA or ETKA as a valid chassis number.

Some of the older boys at Giltraps remember it coming in and thought it was a prototype car also.

Either way it's a bit different and rare, but I just love driving it. So raw and agricultural, I do miss the smoothness and torque of the B5 RS4 but love the old school turbo lag too. It's a love/hate type of car, but even my wife likes it better than RS4 even. And she doesn't care about the history or pedigree bit.
