Title: TT (2005) OIL USE
Post by: PeterW on April 30, 2017, 11:44:51 PM
hI Folks
tt 2005 going through 1 litre oil about every 200 km (round town driving) - not obviously blowing any blue smoke).  Engine is low km - 30,000.  Is it possible dumping oil through the turbo or pressurised crankcase system.  any hints & cures appreciated.  Thanks

I would first perform a compression test and leak down test. In case you have damaged landing rings on the pistons.
Also check if the engine is wet and full of oil on the back of the engine.

Could be a rocker cover leak, camchain cover leak or oil lines leaking on the turbo.
What oil are you using at present?

The wrong oils will certainly not help either.

oops, embarrassing typo in my question, the oil use is one litre for every 2000km (not 200.. that would be terrible!), so is a litre per 2000km over the top for a low mileage engine (and my wife points out its 2007, not 2005, but close enough).  Thanks

in that case it's more than likely the wrong oil used.
1 litre per 1000kms is acceptable from VW/Audi.

I have helped many members with similar oil usage experiences, but managed to get it under control to approx. 500ml / per 4000-5000kms.
