What car do you have?
Year/Model/Engine/Colour/Spec/etc.

Photos as well.
2006 A4 DTM 2.0T Phantom Black
DTM specs:
- Engine modified to produce 220HP/300NM (standard 200/280): not just an ECU remap - apparently modified pistons, turbocharger and ECU.
- 6sp manual
- Crossdrilled brake rotors
- quattro GMbH special suspension settings
- 18inch 15 spoke deep dish alloys
- unique front and rear bumper: front - prominent brake ducts (cosmetic only), rear diffuser, red towhook, 100mm dual rear tailpipes
- grille and mirrors finished in Phantom Black
- carbon fibre front lip spoiler and rear boot lid spoiler
- DTM logo on side strips and brushed alu sill plates
- full electric Recaros in leather/Nardia microfibre combo with silver stitching
- carbon fibre trim as in RS4
- Nardia cover for gear shift and handbrake
- multi-function steering wheel finshed in combination leather/Nardia
Total package is unique and not just a simple dress-up. Released in 2005 to commemorate Audi's dominance in the German DTM series in the 2004 season. Only 260 RHD models produced.
And the best bit: despite being close to $10,000NZD more than the standard edition in the UK, in NZ it was the same price.

As good a time as any, since i've just put it's new shoes on...
2000 S4 2.7 V6 BiTurbo
only mods are MTM stage 1 chip (225kw), 710N DV's, Oettinger RE rims
Bel RX75 remote radar detector and M2O blinder :police:
keep talking myself out of getting a milltek dual middle and rear system and straight thru downpipes. ::)
also want to put in some tighter springs, shocks and swaybar. but that will mean lowering which i can't really do at the moment due to garage access.(even though it looks like it's on stilts - more noticeable with the RE's to my eye - should've gone 18" :-\ )
here's some pics with the new rims:

edit: Put in some Bilstein sport shocks, Vogtland springs, H&R swaybars front and back. EBC red stuff brake pads. Formula 1 Tints.
(Also have Goodyear F1 asymmetrics on now. Michelin Pilot Precedas wore down after a year and one track day. good none-the-less.)
edit: Redstuffs were a bit cooked after hampton, now have Pagid RS29 yellows.
edit: Pagids too noisy, now have Yellowstuffs

The stilts look is not a function of the rim size as long as you have the right size tyre. It's due to the ride height.
Fix that and you've got an even hornier looking S4 :)

I the its because the REs have lips on the rims, standard S4 rims have flat faces which always make rims look they are bigger than what they are.

yeah, but the OEM rim almost had an optical illusion of being bigger due to the flat face and spokes going right to the lip, made the gap between rim and arch
appear smaller.
totally, right height would awesome to lower, but not a possibility right now.
edit:
you just beat me to the 'flat 'face' comment golfboy :-[

1999 S4 Avant dark green 90k bought 2 years ago so don't know of any mods.
No photo as car is dirty all the time hacking between Nelson - Blenheim.
No mods that I know of but I'm very happy with it. Brilliant for what I need.
Wouldn't mind a little less understeer though, and the MTM chip sounds interesting.
Need new tyres this year. Lots of tight corners and icy bits.
Any thoughts on best choice welcomed

if losing a wee bit of clearance isn't too much of an issue for you then a set of new springs and suspension coupled with a stronger sway bar could correct quite a bit of the understeer. an eibach spring and bilstein combo worked really well for my A4. coilovers would probably be overkill if you're just using it for cruising. i've recently just set my front wheels close to zero toe-in, haven't had the chance to push hard yet, but does seem a bit more responsive. feels like it's understeering less but could all be wishful thinking. :-\
not sure what your tuning options are down there in regards to chips or remapping. do you ever take the car north? revo is in mt maunganui, they can remap the chip in the car while you wait:

Nope, no std BBS or body kit on lemans.
Lemans gets 1/2 Leather (option for full), 17", Quattro GmbH suspension, white dials, different steering, MTM stage 1, CD Stacker, Spoiler (sedan), S4 seats (prior to recaro), Alu dash trim, stainless trim on exhaust and a few others i cant remember.
The Lemans was and still is rated real well by all the Audi dealers. Its a sportier drive than the B6. In tight twisties, its got more natural balance than by B5 RS4, but obviously lacks the RS'4 extra HP.
Here is my Lemans (random shots), after then adding BBS and Body Kit, Miltek rear exhaust.

That Jacquard cloth seat material is superb stuff - had the same leather/jacquard combo on my 96 A4 - it is bullet proof.

Hi.
I'm a newby to the forum action, but i'll kick off with my details.
2001 nz new 1.8T Quattro.
Forge Divertor valve, K & N filter, cat back Neuspeed stainless exhaust sytem, (groovy) Neuspeed short shifter.
Bilstein sport shocks and Neuspeed sport springs. Lowered vehicle an additional 25mm from the factory sport suspension, but massive improvement in ride quality and stability. Also Neuspeed 21mm rear sway bar. Probably one of the best things you could do to eliminate the push some Audis get when driven hard. Like mine did.....
19 x 8.5 imported ssw alloys and Goodyear F1s.
I've been tinkering with my Audi for 2 years, and i bring all these sorts of bits in from the USA.
My next upgrade is installing my GT28rs turbo charger, front mount intercooler and Revo stage 3 software......can't wait.

Welcome to the forum Quattro Guy. Nice car you have there.
How much power do you think it will put out with the new turbo?
Plan on about 350 engine hp on 1.1 bar max boost. Some americans claim easily more but relisticly the engine managements gunna be the make or break. At my shop in Tauranga, we work on plenty of 1.8 and 2.0 mitsy's (dear i say it) with faifly similar results, so i'll have to do the R & D until im happy i spose.... :)

I read somewhere that "boost pressure is boost pressure doesnt matter about the size of the turbo", ie: small turbos spool quicker but big turbos hold thier power longer etc. Clearly i am far short of 350hp, yet my 1.8t is running 1.4 bar. Surely your engine is using more air than mine, so does this mean your turbo is flowing more air at the same boost pressure, or you are running more boost? ??? or is it another variable such as cam timings and head work etc that accounts for the increase in power...?
Sorry for sounding thick but ive heard so many contradicting opinions ::) :)
RS4 owner for 1month. Previously had RS2.
Could not pass this car by when it came up for sale. Like new inside. Engine cleaner than new. Very well maintained, all servicing spot on. Car in original spec.
Anyone know who can remap so power does not cut off when left foot braking. RS4 does not allow throttle and brake to be on at same time!!!!! Obviosly to preserve brakes or something, but does not work for my style of driving. ESP on or off makes no difference.
Hope it is a simple thing to change. All help appreciated.

feelou, did you have the ecu tuned? Did you revert this to factory settings when you sold it?
The car was still re-mapped when I handed it over to Giltrap. I would guess that they reverted the ECU to original when they serviced it.
A shame if they did, as it really improve throttle response and opened up the high end of the rev range
Hi Feelou.
Great to make contact with previous owner. Glad to find a car looked after, appreciate it.
Can the remap be done directly via diagnostic port? or do they re-chip?
When you had it done could you brake while throttle was on, without car cutting power?
Could Giltrap change it for me, if not who can you recommend?

Yes boost pressure is boost pressure. bigger turbos yeild more volume, but obviously create mor lag etc as you know.
The power im lookin for with the turbo i've choosen, is also with major engine management mods, cooler, exhaust, various sensors etc. my expectations are alittle hi wth the boost level indicated by revo as a max boost, but we'll keep working on that topic. i indent on leaving the engine stock, however the cam timing and cylinder head mods u mention, can release supprising hp gains. can only speek from other manufactures engines that i see alot of..... ;)

The B6 RS4 came with a lightweight soft wheel, when they had lots of complaints of dented wheels they then came out with a tougher heavier weight wheel. They were replaced as a no cost recall.

But really, that looks amazing. The wheels look really good on that. Is it sporting some lowering springs or have you put bigger wheels on there?

you've got the right model, but would need more than just the turbos when doing that upgrade.
doing that upgrade would sacrrifice some low range torque and response, which in daily driving is probably more useful. food for thought anyway.

No i just mentioned that when you were talking about mods. The house needs to be renovated so no turbo upgrade for me, im sure a full exhaust and tune should do the trick in the future. This car wont last long anyway, we both want something newer so this will need to go in prob 20-30kms time so it still has some value left. End of next year i hope to have a 2004 S4, a 2007 S3 or a E46 M3.

Yep that's my 2001 A4 1.8TQ Avant Le Mans. It's actually a great piece of kit but it's power output is no comparison to that of the RS4. The RS4 in third gear is just incredible (actually it's pretty good in the other gears too!).

Lucky, i love the black. Mine was a hurried purchase as we had no car at the time, and silver was all there was. I was thnking about making the same trip in mine, or possibly my father in laws SL55 AMG. Either car would make the journey awesome. I've been tossing up over Superchips and Chiptuning. From the website it looks as though Chiptuning extract more hp. Did you choose Superchips because of the price or were there other factors?
Let us know what you think of the results.
I have heard that while Superchips may cost a bit more, it is the much safer option...

Yeah ive had chiptuning tune my S3 which had some problems, and a few friends cars have had problems too. Superchips are more expensive, but give a lifetime warranty on thier work and are an international company with much more experience and backup.
*Remember* - its not all about HP/torque gains, anyone can wind out a turbo to max boost, but the trick is to find that balance between reliablility and performance.

Tell me about it. Although Anton noticed a smell coming from my exhaust on the sunday drive we just took, which indicates my cat converters may be damned. Which means a new zorst with high flow cats etc, which means a new zorst before i get a tune.... and by the time i get the cash for that, the car will have done heaps more kms (its just the S4 for the wife and I) and we will need a new run around car... aarrgghh im wondering if it will ever happen ::)

I have a last-of-last-from-Japan 1997 A4 1.8T Quattro Manual on 17" Golf-VR6 Alloy Wheel,
Silberpfiel-grau sedan. She's got the Sportline Pack, with a 1" lowered by Audi in-factory , and what feel like Bilsteins.
Also has what feels like a delightfully lumpy-after-warm power-cam for the 5V head.
All in all immaculate, fast, and very fuel economical - I frighten jumped-up Subies at the lights with this V1-buzzbomb
(I call it a Buzzbomb because the last owner in Japan fitted it with a G-Reddy Turbo gauge for the dash, which buzzes as the
G-60 spools up.....)
Two buys for her -
MTM Chrome Exhaust to hear her growl,
Bright Halogens - those ballasted bright blues.....

Red 1997 Audi A4 1.8t MTM 286hp factory version
Haltech E8 computer remaped to around 320hp (will confirm at speedsource on Saturday)
Halo head and tail lights
Plan to upgrade brakes and maybe rear swaybar depending on how it behaves on the track when I get an opportunity.
The car that was on TM?
You should bring it a long to our track day.
Oh, and welcome to the forum.

Yes...looking forward to chatting to Kent at spedsource Saturday during the retune, Kent Dynotuned the car when the Haltech was fitted.

Yes this is the car that was on trademe, I have only had the car for about a month. It's my first Audi and am really stoked by the performance handling and general feel of the car.
The track day sounds good but I might need to get used to the car a bit more and iron out a few small problems before I let loose on the track?
Cheers for the welcome, it's great to see so many people pasionate about cars!

Use a Photbucket, Flickr or other file sharing type account. Then use the "Insert Image" button and paste the pic location address between the "(http://www.pic%20link%20here)" text and the pics will appear in your post, but are hosted elsewhere.
Hope that helps.

Spoke to Kent at Speedsource and he showed me the dyno readout for my A4: 16lb boost 320hp at the flywheel and 240hp at the wheels. I have backed the boost back to 12lb for day to day driving but can plug in the laptop turn up the boost. The only mods past the standard 286hp configuration is the Haltech comp with quite a bit of time spent on the mapping and boost level, removal of cat converter and the head has been rebuilt but no major changes were done to the head, MTM factory seem to know what they are doing.

Look at a gt28 turbo + injectors + chip + custom made or off the shelf exhaust + clutch. It gets expensive quite fast

Haltech E8 computer remaped to 320hp at 16lb boost (running 12lb at the mo for day to day driving)
Removed Catalytic Converter
ABT tuning, front spoiler...I think?
Halo head and tail lights
Slightly heavier springs
Future plans:
New Igniter system as Bosch system doesn't like the Haltech sending a dwell instead of a pulse and isn't producing enough spark
New rubber (Diamond Back tyres are RUBBISH!)
Upgrade discs to 12 slot and better pads
Maybe rear swaybar depending on how it behaves on the track
Water sprayers
Turbo modifications for less stressed Hp
Strut tower brace for engine bay

Good work going on there - and some bad luck over the car theft too. Such a shame after all the work you did upgrading it. Scum just cannot help themselves, if they see someone elses hard work they have to destroy it.

@Docurley, did you use rear flares, front guards, doors and bumpers for those mods from a wrecked RS4?
I guess they're a lot easier to get a hold of in the UK.
I will make a post in the main section so that this thread does not become a thread about my car.

If you do go to Germany then make sure you visit the Audi Forum in Ingolstadt.
If you have the money they will hire you any Audi of your choice and organise a 2 day route including stopovers.

Awesome! I love the twin SD slots! I assume it'll also recognise movie files from the SD cards as well, seeing as it's a DVD player system?
No, SD cards only play MP3's and DVD is only for Navigation Disc.
There is a video input on the back of the unit which can either be connected to a seperate DVD player / TV Tuner or be used for a reversing camera (selected when you hit reverse) same as Lambo.

I think some Kia's have reverse cameras too. As do lots of those smelly old courier vans

thanks! yeah I'm really happy with it!
the only thing I have noticed is that it's a little 'notchy' between going into 3rd and also reverse (half way through the shift there is a little 'notch' feeling). if that makes any sense!
not sure if this is just the way it is or if it's a problem. it's certainly not a big issue, I'm just REALLY picky!

They can be 'notchy', especially when cold. Down shifting into 2nd is particularily bad when cold - you need to learn to toe and heal it into 2nd.

Nah as far as I know its standard, Will have a look when I get it back from Giltrap on Wednesday
Hi guys,
First post here. I'm fairly new to Audi ownership. Prior to my first Audi here I've been a BMW owner for many years (323i, 325i, 325iM, 328i). When I was looking for a new car I got down to a year 2000 540i BMW and what I ended up buying, a 2001 Audi A4 Quattro 3.0 V6. I got in this car, put my foot down and I was singing BIG TIME on the inside (WAAAHOOOOO). I'd never experienced this in a Bema. :o :o
I would LOVE :P an RS4 but will have to wait until I can afford a fairly late model one. In the meantime I was wanting to learn a bit more about my car and what I can do with it. I am not a petrol head -- I just enjoy driving performance cars. I do between 25,000 and 30,000 kms a year (distance driving). The best info I can find about my model so far is here: http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=137291 . I've done the CarJam thing too, which shows my car was German assembled and came to NZ via Japan. The previous owner (who imported it) added a new twin sport exhaust system (which sounds freaking awesome), an aftermarket RS4 front spoiler kit and a few other basic mods. He also added the badge, which I like (apologies to purists ha ha).
Since I've owned this I've:
:: Replaced front and rear discs and pads
:: Added new Vogtland Sport Springs
:: Replaced the cambelt
:: Replaced the coils
:: Added complete set of Ultra-high performance Cooper tyres (225/40/18)
:: Regular service at Ebbett Prestige.
What I want to do in the not too distant future, when the mileage starts to get "up there" is put in another engine. Any ideas? I love the body, so want to keep that. Ideally I'd find a late model RS4 that had been hit in the rear or with a side-rear impact. Or what about another V8 engine? This is probably sacrilege to some of you (given I am sure the Quattro aspect is sacrosanct), but I'd be really keen to hear your views. As I said, I'm new to the Audi world, but so far I love it. Many thanks.
Cheers,
Will
A couple of pics of my car are below.
Welcome, looks a nice car. Not sure about the RS badge. If I were going to put a fake badge on my car I would go the other direction, ie put a 1.8 TDI badge on the RS4 8) Don't know too much about the 3.0 V6, but most Audi engines are pretty bullet proof if looked after, so I imagine you might wear out the rest of it out before the engine needs replacing. Might be better to go looking for the engine you want down the track and buy the car that goes with it ;)

I don't like your implication that a TDI would be rubbish slow! :P
Don't know too many 1.8 TDIs powering rocket ship 1600 KG Audis ;)
Hey le mans,
Thanks for your welcome and feedback. The badge looks so sexy on it (and a nice contrast with the silver) that I didn't have the heart to strip it off when I purchased it. And yeah, I am a wannabe -- I wannabe in an RS4 (grin). This is a very quick car though (I've been looking at Laser Jammers to go with my Valentine One :police: ). I'm sparing no expense when it comes to maintaining the engine, so you're probably right about it outlasting the rest.
And dubious, LMFAO!!
Cheers,
Will

Heh pwnd :D
Yep got it from Giltrap on the weekend. The wheels were silver, had them baked with titanium paint.
Have been thinking about getting B8 LEDs and some sort of iPod hookup (has 6 cd in dash, thoughts?) but apart from that will leave it stock... maybe will do the blower mod and millteks once the warranty runs out hehe.
Also yes have noticed the B5 side mirrors, what's with the plastic, Audi?!
Also will get some more pics on the weekend!
I got a Denison link put into mine when i got it - not cheap (of course) but means you can at least get your iPod to work via the stereo. Its basic - as in put it in shuffle and you can simply scroll through, not full control or anything. Better than nowt though. was north of $500 to put in and sounds good.
Nice call on the wheels, i'm getting tyres tomorrow so will see what/how it can be done and $
I've been having a look at DLR as well, keen to put something on so if you do keep me posted. I have however sullied mine with a bike rack and massive kayak rack - some dude at the lights yesterday told me I had ruined it ::)

Car's looking mint. Agree on the above 2 comments - maf + 710n = good preventative maintenance.
The MAF was replaced when I brought it. Wasn't driving to hot on the test drive, not sure how long it had been like that though. Hopefully not long. Where are the diverter valves? I was told to check the O2 sensors also. It really does need a once over, it has full service history from giltraps with ebbetts doing the last few. Warranty from CCS. Any ideas on where you can purchase the swade style steering wheel and gear knob?

Hi Guys,
Link to some pics of my RS4. Just been groomed, new paint to roof, both front and rear bumpers, bonnet and side skirts. Chipped to 435HP. Milltek to come, as well as a new suspesion setup i think.

DVs sit at the front of the engine under the cf panel (Audi call them recirculation valves). The 710n is a stock valve from the Audi TT 1.8t engine and is stronger than the 710a that our cars have as oe. Good idea to change especially as you're running more than stock boost.

They are an OEM part, so technically from your audi parts dept. Else, try ebay UK.
They are part of the audi "QmbH Kit"

Very very happy with it,
My previous list of cars in the last 6years of having a lisence have been a bit different to what i now own.
Anything from a peice of crap honda integra vtec to my top of the line, quick as sh*t mirage rocket (black 2dr hatch, 4wd... vr4 engine. Launch control is so much fun)
But now im ready to make a change and have something a bit tidier.
Im a 21yo sparky from hamilton.
Big wish list in mind, but for now im about the looks. Power isnt everything for me at the moment, that will come eventually.
Cheers guys.

Nice Jon. Is the black RS4 Marks?
^^ Thanks :) No, the black one belongs to Jason who bought this car a couple of months ago from New Plymouth. There was a thread on here about it but can't find it at the mo. He's put a lot of effort into cleaning it up cosmetically.
I also quite like this pic but it's bit out of focus unfortunately (but prob hard to tell with the reduced size shown here):

Yes a blue/black/silver photo-shoot would be really cool. The one above was actually about a month ago which was before you bought the B7 so I didn't know your B5 was going to be sold.
Is your front number plate holder on upside down?
eagle eyes.
looks like it might not fit flush the right way

Cheers for the feedback guys! Hotchkis is a American brand that Jon (Le Mans) recommended to me. The reason I chose them over the other brands Is the rear bar has reinforcing brackets. I couldn't find anyone selling them here so got a Friend to bring them back from a trip to New Orleans.

The offset is 35. No problem clearing the calipers plenty of room, but my calipers will be slightly smaller than your S4 calipers.
Heres a couple of mine from the summer after a groom. With the Milltek and a new MAF installed i was up 7kw to 164 @ Torque performance the other week :)

Hey guys/girls
New to the forum but then I am currently based in London! Below is my ride that will be in a container in a 10 months and on its way to NZ.
Full Milltek valved and resonated exhaust, GruppeM intake and its off to a place called MRC in the UK in a few months to be ported, carbon cleaned and remapped, hopefully should be good for a 'real' 440-460 hp, also having the torque restriction eased so second and third should be better for NZ conditions. Dont need top speed in the land of the long line of police cars these days....

Want to add some more boost, going to add s line kit once I can find parts online.
My wife's new daily. 2006 A4 DTM in Sprint Blue, 42,000km. APR Tune on it and have APR fuel pump and decat pipe coming for it. Other than that it is staying standard. Drives really nice, although it was really piss slow as standard.

Keen to know this too as I am shipping my RS from London in about 6 months and while it seems straight forward its all the details that I know I am missing which will bite!
How were landing costs?

MJH imported a B7 RS4 earlier in the year.
One thing I would say is budget to replace discs and pads.
Hey everyone - first post (finally found a camera).
I am the proud owner of a very subtle 04 B6 S4 in Red
Mods:
Full Miltek non-res with Hi-flow Cats (rowdy - and also my ring tone)
Hyperflow Cold Air Intake
5 x RS4 Replica 18's
ECU Reprogrammed by Baz @ Autopassion (top bloke)
Custom LED Tail lights (no apologies, got sick of replacing bulbs)
Next:
Radar, definitely radar
Front Rotors
Paint callipers silver and put on B7 calliper clips
Satnav/iPOD control/stereo possibly Dynavin
Long term:
Centre Diff conversion,
Supercharger as soon as I win lotto
and guns and missiles obviously
I do tend to attract a few Subaru driving chavs on the motorway.
I?m sure you guys have similar problems.

Would be good to make it to the meet this month too but am sadly tied up with a rugby world cup stuff in welly, I'll definitely keep an eye on the calendar for next time though...

Is that the meet in Mission Bay? I'll try and make it along.
this is my audi a4 wagon its just a 2.6 v6 but i am thinking of putting a different motor in it was thinking something different like a lexus v8 turbo or something like that im open to suggestions im also planing to bag it but right now its got ajusties in it has 20 inch tsw rims and a custom perl white paint also has custom rb style head lights with the leds in them im wanting to turn this into a real head turner these are old pics from when i was going to sell it
Coolguy, that is a really good looking wagon you have! Well, I like it anyway!
re: an engine swap, is that FWD or Quattro? Will be tricky swapping just a motor (esp. if you go for something non-Audi) - your best bet might be to go motor & trans - but then you run into a whole new load of issues! Just make sure if you go that route that you are prepared for major headaches/costs/timeframes etc etc.

Hi guys, finally joined the ranks of the Audi owners..got sick of driving round in a Holden and seeing everyone else with the same car!
Here's my 2004 S4; manual, lowered on 20's, with painted caliper and new rotors. Plans will be removing the roof rack, new catback exhaust, ECU remap and air intake.
Like the wheels mikemas - nice combo for the car / colour
Hi guys, first post on here so I thought might as well be about my car. Stock standard 2002 Audi A4, 2.4L V6. Been really well looked after. Some people told me to throw some RS wheels on there but I think I'll just upgrade to an RS instead >:D

Newbie here. Just had my first Audi for 2 months. 2003 S4 6-spd manual. UK import. Thirsty, but impressed with it so far. Had some interesting cars in the past: Lancia HPE, Rover SDI Vitesse, Nissan 200SX, Sierra Cosworth Sapphire. Building a recreation of a 66 GT40 from scratch using original blueprints and parts (well the bits I can do anyway - monocoque is beyond my skills so being done by someone with the necessary expertise....). Looking forward to tapping into the knowledge on here.

nice! until a month or so ago I thought all the B6 S4's were autos (I saw a manual on trademe) - very nice

Well I have already whored the pictures on forum but here is mine:
2001 B5 RS4
Seems to have some very rare(for NZ) options. Well spec'd from new.
Alcantara roof lining.
Half alcantara seats, never seen another here??
Alcantara steering wheel and gear knob
Sunroof
GmbH suspension
Anyway I have done the following:
034 3" downpipes
Custom built exhaust from downpipes back, using standard tail pipes and just quiet enough.
Custom fmic that was extensively modified in order to fit behind standard bumper, stealth.
Uprated oil and power steering coolers.
JHM shifter upgrade package.
Bilstein/Eibach suspension upgrade.
18x9.5 Rota Grids re-drilled to 5x112 fitted with 265/35/18 Hankook V12 Evo tyres, very impressed so far and well priced.
Viper custom remap with his launch control and flat shift options, estimated 480bhp. Leaves massive black lines even with 4wd.
Planned ideas, new turbos, Torsen modification, B7 front brakes, possible rear LSD.
(https://www.vask.org.nz/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy164%2Fbarry_gti%2F00354a00.jpg&hash=f9dc0bea864c994ff56f095ee29655f93b91f463)

Mate, can you please tell me where you got the wheels done ann what is the offset you are running? I have spoken to several mag shops about running a 18 x 9 or 9.5 rim and they are telling me the offsets are all wrong.
I know its possible and your car is proof :D

Mines are ET18 and I had them re-drilled at Royce Clive in Christchurch. You probably could use wobble bolts but I prefer the drilling method so PCD is right.
Straight on. ;)

Hi Guys
I am a member on a few overseas Audi forums but thought I would join up here as well.
Mine is an 08/09 2.0 Tdi with Nav but without the awesome LED lights - still gutted about that every day.
I have done a few mods so far from how I got it - nothing major as yet
This isn't my first Audi - before this car I had a 2004 S4 6spd manual - and although I miss the speed and handling of the S4 I dont miss the fuel bill!
Anyway this is my tractor

Isn't it just daytona grey which is clean and with good lighting during the photo??
PS. Daytona is one of the 3x top colours, being black, daytona and silver. Sprint Blue and Red are the least.
It is just Daytona Grey with good lighting.
The windows are also tinted, but doesn't look like it in the pic.
It was the Daytona Grey/smoked Wheel combo that really did it for me on this car.

Rex had the car on behalf at CCS.
The police took exception to the fact it was a decal on the front,as a new boy racer law made it non regulation....thus my wife was given a 400 dollar ticket.I disputed the fact that they cant change a law without telling people, and got off the fine only to find out a few months latter after having to re register to get a regulation plate(s) that the law had again been modified to allow for classic cars. But it still comes down to personal interpratation of the police officer(this guy stopped my wife in rush hour traffic and she had the kids(3 special needs)and got stuck into her and said he was after german cars like porsche etc as they were always getting stickers from ccs instead of plates! He them got some poor guy in an m3!.So now i have an ugly plate on the rs and the rego isnt correct for its age.grrrrr

Nice to see the Motecarlo on there! I still have my Volumex Coupe, although I have to say it hasn't been on the road in 2 years - little incentive to register the 'fun' car when your daily driver is an S4 :)
Yep its was fun as when i got it new (82)i found out it could get under the old harbour bridge toll gates(they were just coming down then). And you couldt reach the guy in the booth without gettig out! After the monte i ordered a rally.......300hp lots of bits in a container(similar to a 355 challange),but they stuffed up the order so i brought a 2.7 911 turbo..........really twitchy!Years latter i started to look for a rally sport,i thought there were 2 short wheel base ones here,1 ended up in a swampy bit of land next to auck zoo(thanks to johnathin goodham a sales man...i think it was colin giltraps own car).Do you guys have any idea where they are?...heres a pick
82 Monte Carlo ?
Was that before or after their infamous braking problems ?
Lancia Rallye might have had 300bhp in full rally trim but the road version had to make do with 205.
:(
The montecarlo was the 1982 version(km 184..love to know where it is!),didnt notice anything about the brakes and the car had very good handling, only trouble was when it got to its limit all wheels would let go together. The rally was the full power abarth, which was305 hp and was delivered with a pile of wheels etc so you could set it up for whatever track.Tim bailey at ccs did the order but torino motors at the time stuffed it up.bit of a shame, but the 911 was sure fun and its fenders wouldnt of wobbled around like the rally, and was more user freindly.
The Abarth Rally would have been a beast.
:D
Had to dig out my old copies of CAR magazine...
82 Montecarlo was the last of them.
It was the early ones that suffered from overservo'd brakes that produced front lockup very easily.
The fix was very Italian, remove the brake servo completely !

I too thought Giltrap owned a Sport but another poster (who seemed well informed on the matter) refuted that. My brother in law insists he saw one in Newmarket many years ago and he does know the differences over a regular ur quattro. Have never heard of there being two, but like those Ferrari's that pass through, I guess it's possible.

Thanks, yes they're MTM bimotos. Probably getting them done up in matte black within the next week or so. $800 is kinda steep for paint, so may shop around.
Picked this up a couple weeks ago to get me up the mt, 1997 A4 1.8tq.

Sounds wicked. What's it like cruising at 100kph?
Thanks!

I think Le Mans was wondering what the exhaust sounded like at 100 km/h. Does it drone?
oh mybad, not to much easy to live with
I see its the pre face lift , no silver wing mirrors :-[ whats the KW upto now?
nice, welcome to the club.
was your remap done after installing the milltek? be interesting to see what gains you have over stage 1.
not sure why yours wouldn't have the alu-mirrors. mine's 2000 and has them...was it imported?
The remap was done by the previous owner and i added the milltek ;D . would like to get it on a dino to see how much kw its putting out.
yea not sure why it doesn't have sliver wing mirrors.. was imported from Singapore

You could spec these with body coloured mirrors IIRC, first owner may have done this. In the UK you see a few without silver mirrors as filthy pikeys love to rip them off and sell them on eBay. Easier to remove the temptation than keeping on replacing them I guess.
Picked up my new car on Thursday in CHCH

Hi all,
I got myself the red RS4 B5 that was lurking on here a while ago. I am pretty sure I made enquires about buying it off the last 3 owners - but finally got it off the dealer in PN.
It was a little bit nicer than I expected, so I am not using as much as I initially intended (not a daily driver - yet).
It is better than all the others I looked at, and goes better than certainly the tradin post one. Not quite as brutal as the black one that was chipped, but I think it just kicks in a bit later. It is a nice place to be in. the turbo lag is entertaining, and it is a bit scary when you give it beans! The only real negatives are the gearbox is a bit agricultural - not sure how you do quick changes in it, and it is a bit gutless below 2000rpm. I am not sure how you unsettle it - you would have to be a bit bonkers! Pretty happy with it really!! :)
That's the one from Lee European.
Did the dealer tidy up the centre caps on the wheels ?
When I had a look at the car back in May the caps looked like Stevie Wonder fitted them.
;D

They are a good car out of the box. Owned one for 8 years! Daily.
The only 'must do' is the suspension, else the turn, roll, wait, now its coming over is just all wrong, especially when combiined with turbo lag.
Also, learn how to heal and toe, it helps allot when the box is cold, and down shifting.
the rear centre caps are pretty average. fronts are OK. small scratch on rear wheel arch, otherwise pretty mint for a 120k km car. I think the inside was given a good spruce up from previous photo's I had seen.
I played with double clutching, but I think it just made me busier rather than making the changes faster. I would guess a bit of heal-toe would be good on the track, especially with the lag. It is really only 2nd gear when it is cold that is an issue, and 3rd->2nd isn't too bad. But I do wonder how they do under 5sec to 100kph, but I guess it is only one gear change...
What is the "must do" on the suspension?
Suspension - Bilstein pss9 coilovers and a bigger rear arb, the arb alone will make a huge difference, on one of my 80 quattros (same susp setup) it has a 19mm bar (factory 10mm) and the difference is night and day

standard or chipped? I presume traction control off. Without giving it a good go - the traction control appears quite intrusive, especially in the first couple of gears. I initially thought there was an issue until I noticed the little traction control light flashing on when I "had to" do a bit quicker start from the lights ;D ;D

The last black optics sold for 61k and that had similar k's but a wagon so in theory should b worth more
The guys at Armstrongs said this guy has been trying to shift
This for a while. Has dropped a couple of k but most likely needs to be around the 60 mark

The original factory system in my car includes cd shuttle, sub and separate amp - door speakers are good, just do not like too much volume :-\
really a factory sub? speakers in rear doors?
The Bose system in the B5 RS4 has a factory sub - top right in the pic below. Not sure about other set ups. Our A4 has a standard Symphony system but haven't checked if it has a sub.

Top right in this pic is the access hatch for fuel pump? The sub is in the storage compartment behind the wheel arch.

Hi all,
Total newbie here!! Cars have always just been a means of getting me from A to B (previously owned a crappy Corolla) but when I laid eyes on my baby, things have changed!! In the two days I've owned her, I have washed and cleaned her more times than I had on my Corolla which I had for 7 years!! ;D
Anyways, bought myself a 2003 Audi A4 in silver and automatic. Went for the 2 liter version due to insurance prices due to my age.
No doubt I will have many (noob) questions here, and I apologize in advanced if they are stupid basic ones, so please bear with me! Lol

Hello All
I've just joined the group as I've just bought my first Audi... a NZ new late 2005 A4 3.2 Avant Quattro, 6 speed auto.
It is certainly a very different car from the Falcons that I have owned over the years. Strangely the smaller Audi is a bit over 50kg heavier than the XR6. They produce much the same power but the Audi seems quicker and certainly makes a better noise!
Hopefully the German engineering will prove reliable. No plans at this stage for any modifications but it would be good to add line-in to the Bose sound system that doesn't have this.
I will look forward to learning from the group.
Nice wagon! Welcome to the fold!
sweet example
Welcome! :D
Very nice. I, too, went from an XR6 to an Audi Avant, albeit an S4. Chalk and cheese...
S4 - very nice.
I have admired the hot Audi wagons for a long time but I didn't feel I had deep enough pockets in the end. The only S4's I could think about buying were older models with higher km's, and I decided the younger V6 would hopefully be a cheaper option to run in the end.... but who knows.

Perfection
1999 S 4 dark green Avant
Milltek middle and rear exhaust
Under refurbishment after 225000k
Will do shocks and brakes.
Audisport chip for 312 bhp coming
Might do turbo rotors.
Worth doing the exhaust manifolds?
Car is a bit scruffy so no pics yet
Would be worth changing to 3 inch down pipes. Wouldn't change the manifolds personally.
As above, forget manifolds but do down pipes, if you are on standard turbos still at that km then throw them in bin, if you chip them now they won't last and engine out to fix.
Buy a set of Borg Warner K04 RS4 turbos and get a Viper map in there, 450bhp and excellent torque. Job done.
Other mods I would suggest are better inter cooling and brakes.

Nope, no need for spacers, they are 17x10 and 17x10.5.
Was a slight issue with rear wheels but a slight roll of the guard and your away, just wouldn't run it that low on a long trip because the rear guard hits the lips over big bumps. Need stiffer springs in the rear.
^^ that b5 is so badass.
Did the lovely A4 Avant 3.0ltr sell? How much? Looking at upgrading at some stage and costing the exercise out.

Suspension was just H&R springs..

If you don't mind me asking how did you like the milltek sound? Much drone with the non res?

Don't mind at all mate - it depends on what you're after. I loved it personally, didn't think it had too much "drone" and sounded great.
The soundproofing is pretty good in Audis in any case.
I would definitely go non-res again, looking at the same again for my RS (it does have valves though).

Thanks for that mate. You would be able to post a better quality pic of the side on view would you? Im currently debating between coilovers and the h&r springs. Thanks again
As someone with a milly on an RS I can agree that you can drive around the drone but do a bit of research and find an exhaust that doesn't drone at all. By all accounts the superspint exhaust is the way to go. I have heard one and it was miles better than the Milltek. They don't have valves though so it's loud(er) all the time. I can't comment properly on the drone as it was only a short 10 minute run in the car and we never just cruised along.

Yeah I'll PM you and stop spamming this thread.
RSKiwi - I'm coming up to that decision point now and had been interested in supersprints, but youtube videos are not the best for making decisions like this haha

I concur. Have the Miltek non res/down pipes system in my B6 S4, bark is great, the only time I identified a bit of drone is driving with the back seats down (open boot cavity) at 60k. Always gets comments about how good it sounds. Even from cops.
Out with the old, in with the new!
nice.
sports diff?
Don't believe it has a sports diff (no ADS buttons on the console), but that's not a sure fire guarantee according to some threads I read (which suggests I check for an external servo motor on the rear diff). Haven't had it on a hoist to do that, yet.

Use the like of photobucket.com
Bit of a mission, here it is........
very nice!
and I guess I'll ask the obvious questions (cause I've always thought about doing this)
- how hard was it to get into NZ?
- are you from the UK or have a mate decent contact over there or did you start from scratch and use a company to do it?
- spec?
- costs? (do you mind telling us how much the process cost and the car to start with?)
thanks!
sorry for all the questions!
john
Thanks.
Well, like I said, I havent landed it yet, its somewhere in the pacific at present.
Im an expat kiwi returning from 12 years in the UK, and thought i'd bring a nice car back as a way of bringing some capital without putting up with the terrible exchange rate between ? and kiwi. Bonus is, I get to drive it as well!
Was a tossup between a 5.5 or 6.3 Merc or the RS4, think I made the right choice for NZ roads. Done about 3k miles in it in the UK and France, and its a pleasure to fill the tank up, as it means I can drive it some more.
Spec is stock, unmodified, 80k miles on it, solar sunroof, chiller in glove box as factory extras. Put a set of new Goodys on it before it went in the container.
Looking at modifying exhaust, poss remap, and carbon clean in NZ
Costs, I'll pm you with, as I might sell it on one day.
Cheers

I'm planing on bringing my 1998 S4 back home to NZ after being in the UK for 2 years.
Looking forward to enjoying it in NZ and have more modifications planned for it.
So far, stage 1 remap, forge diverter valves, H&R suspension, A5 Brakes.
hopefully the photo works

Welcme to the forum.
It could be more trouble than what its worth to bring your S4 home. Have you looked into it?
Yes, I'm aware It can be risky due to the age and it's not classic status yet.
I can go for an immigrant exemption as I've owned it longer than 12 months. So it will be exempt from emissions and frontal impact standards.
So the car would basically be judged on rust levels I believe.
I've asked my mechanic his opinion about the rust, he says it's good, so I'm thinking of risking it, I've been getting it mint replacing lots of parts and I like the car so for these reasons I wanna try go ahead. Shipping is the easy part, unfortunately there is no way to know until the car arrives in NZ if it meets their standards.

I wouldnt take an english mechanics opinion. Basically if the car has any surface rust it will get flagged.
Just brought my '04 S4 over from the UK, needed new bushings (total PITA, apparently they always ask for that), major rust work (not so bad), total interior removal so they can check every weld from the INSIDE every 0.5m (standard practice), the usual MAF nazis .... for the B6 it was worth it, but an older one like that you'll have the same or greater cost for a lower value car, it'll end up costing you more than sourcing one in NZ. That's not including the cost of your time, which will be a lot .. plus the cost of not having a car for 2 months or so. I'd forget it if I were you for a car of that age.
If you really want to bring something back, buy that v12 S6 that's sitting on ebay.co.uk at the moment for about $14k!
Hmm ok thats interesting, I just replaced the wheel bearings and just replaced all the front suspension arms and bushings so guess it will mainly be the rust check which is 'standard practice'? How much did you spend correcting the rust?
I've considered looking for one in NZ but haven't seen a nogaro avant on sale. The range if B5 S4's isn't great and i'm not a big fan of b6 or b7's So i'm really importing because I like the B5 shape and the one I have is how I would spec one not because I think it will make good money if I sell it. I'm not importing this as a car I need to use daily, so not being able to have it for 2 months isn't an issue, if that what it takes to get it through.
V12? do you mean a C6 V10.
Just got my rims back from the shop - went with a matt bronze for something different. All silver on the car is powder-coated black, so colour "pops" quite nicely imo
Edit: gotta love photo compression on this website..
why don't you upload to photobucket or something and paste the img link?

I've got Audi Euro plates with black sides..not sure if you're meaning that style or the old school black plate with white letters?
That looks great! Pop along to the next meet! Did you paint or powder coat the rims? Lets have a pic of the whole car please :D
I'll sort some wider aspect shots this weekend..only picked the rims up yesterday.
Painted the rims..apparently powder coating is not the way to go with rims? Had a hell of a battle getting the colour right..there is no "off the shelf" colour when you go in and paint your rims as I found out haha

Nice, I've powdercoated 3 sets so far, so much easier to keep clean as brake dust just wipes off or washes away with hose. the only down side is if you curb them, you can't just 'touch them up'. :-\

Powder coating is OK on cast alloy.
Need to be very careful with forged alloy wheels.

Nice to know but I wouldn't have a clue about separating the two wheel types you've just mentioned haha :)
In the simplest of terms...
Cast is when they melt metal and pour it into moulds, like making jelly.
Forged is when they take a block of solid metal and through careful application of heat and pressure force it into a wheel shape, like playdough.
;D
Cast is cheaper and faster to make; forged stronger, lighter but takes longer and results in a more expensive wheel.
Factory B7 RS4 19" wheels are cast aluminium.
Funnily, the new B8 RS4 19"s are forged while the optional 20's are cast...
???
That makes sense..thanks :)
No idea what mine are though..I'll just stick to paint haha

Went Skiing/Snowboarding over the weekend. What stunning weather!
Hi guys,
Well, it's been a long (long!) time coming, but I've finally bought an RS4 Avant. The big surprise is it's a B7, not a B5!
(https://www.vask.org.nz/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1196.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Faa407%2Fjaimzthedrummer%2FMarty.jpg&hash=80eb1bacc99920edc73ebc5ffa0e38f42f1019b2)
Purchased a fortnight ago from a random dealer in Onehunga, it checked out well with Cam Brodie (couple of small issues which the dealer fixed before I bought it).
I've already had two road trips... to Mangawhai and Tauranga. Smooth on the open road and great fun at traffic lights.
No plans for any big upgrades (my M3 is still my real project car), but a few little things to put right:
- The Dension iPod system is a pain in the bum
- The right side S-button exhaust flap is stuck closed
- One of the reversing sensors is playing up
- The speedo is reading about 10km/hr low (wonder if it's set for 18" wheels, but the car is fitted with 19s)
- The lumbar support in the driver's seat doesn't stay inflated
Anyway, I guess I'll be hanging around these forums even more than usual now. Look forward to my first meet and greet!
James
Congrats on the purchase, B7 is a great all round car! We are thoroughly enjoying ours
Hey There Guy's,
Smiladon here from Auckland.
got myself an early A4 Quattro.
$1500.00 NZD what a bargain eh!!
I have worked in the automotive industry since 1984 and back in 96 I did work for an Audi Dealership Continental Cars. Got my love for the A4 there.
My car has been sitting under a tree for the last 1 1/2 years.. so she needs a little love.
I just gave here a birthday and replaced the whole timing gear and water pump on her.
Anyhow pleased to be here
.
Regards
Steve. aka Smiladon
My car got a proper going over during the last 2 days. Came up awesome. Thanks to the lads at www.ocdetailing.co.nz (http://www.ocdetailing.co.nz). Hit them up if you want your car back to as new condition!

Can't argue with that, looks great! You went for the top end package?
Yeah did the 'Stage 4' package as the cars paint hadn't been very well looked after by the previous owner.
I tried correcting it myself, but the paint is so hard I wasnt getting anywhere with it... best left to the professionals :)
Now I can maintain and protect it and try to keep it looking how it is now.
Got some snaps yesterday avo. Forgot to put my blanking plate on the front tho >:(
Had a guy freak out and stop to check on me when I was lying on the ground on the other side of the road taking a pic... thought I'd been hit by a car

Hi Loki,
Is this the same DTM that was featured in performance car mag? If so had some awesome mods! Looks great on those BBS as well!
Enjoying Quattro life - So funny that I had my heart set on getting a 330i/335i, but all those looked totally rubbish in the flesh. Ended up with an S-line A4 2.0T. Very happy
That's a nice car.
Nice package and car! Welcome :)
Had it a year. B8 A4 3.0 TDI. Still makes me smile whenever I get in it. I came from a 1996 3L v6 Maxima do this is a bit of a step up. Took me quite a while to buy as I was only looking for B8 wagons > 2L #fussy
No external changes made, but I've put in a GPS tracker and just put in a dash cam.

Finally back in an Audi after a few years in VW's. I've always had a thing for the B5 shape, my first VAG was a silver A4 1.8 non turbo and while the B5 S4's are coming down in price so quickly, i'm just too scared to own one due to the potential servicing costs. Being a daily driver and having no garage space, it will live outside for much of my time owning it so the next best thing was this.
One of the MTM chipped 1.8T A4's, this one is the 210hp units. Stage 2 MTM chip and MTM catback. Has had only 1 owner since new, FSH and it runs like a dream.

Next step is to tidy it up a bit, refurb the OZ wheels and a slight drop in ride height.
Very nice - I had my eye on that one too. Does it go/handle well? Should have a good bit of poke with MTM stage II.

Thanks i'm really stoked with it, when I spoke to the previous owner the day before the auction ended he said he had 100+ 'watchers' but not one person came and looked at it. I didn't have a TM account and I was out of town so had to sweat it out until the auction ended and surprisingly it didn't sell so I drove to his house the following day and made a cash offer that was accepted.
It goes really well, i've only got two points of comparison which was my mk4 GTI (150hp AGU) and mk6 GTI (208ish hp) and while the A4 is quite sluggish taking off, it does pull very nicely from 3rd and it is so smooth in doing so, good power delivery. I think it needs a bit more low as it does still wallow a bit. I've not owned a quattro before so i'm taking it a bit easy until i'm quite familiar with the car's driveability.
I haven't looked into too carefully, but in ours (stage 1 AJL - 187hp) it's pretty dead below about 1500rpm, pulls well from 2500 up to around 4500 then tapers off up to the red line. Yours should have a bit more pull up top than our stage 1 car but is probably similar down low.
Well I couldn't resist when Tom's (djrisk) car came up for sale - after a week of laying low I decided to go and have a look yesterday. And what a great little car it turned out to be. An absolute credit to Tom and the resources he put into maintaining it for the 9 years he owned it. All the mods work perfectly, and it drives superbly. Cosmetically the exterior is showing its age, but the interior is in good nick and that's more important for me. The exhaust is very subtle but sounds great, the suspension is surprisingly compliant and well planted and I love those BBS wheels! No plans at this stage other than to drive and maintain it.
At home in the rain:

When i joined VASK many years ago that was one of my hero cars!
Awesome Jon. So that's 4 Audi's now? 3 B5's and the B4?
nice Jon!
Thanks guys. Yes Nik, 4 Audi's now - plenty of off street parking at my place! Now thinking about carport options again as only 3 cars under cover at the moment.
Good Score on S4 :)
Nice S4 Jon, was on my watchlist too but didn't need a third Audi :)
Jon,
Could I hassel you for your wheel specs, any spacers.

Yea bit disappointed, whole ordeal was bit frustrating. ended up with a 2008 V6 A6 with low K's and been previously well loved and its nice, no S4 but nice and fits the family brief well... will have to wait a couple of years till we upgrade again, maybe then it will be time for a S4 or S6 ;D
I have a 2007 A4 DTM (limited) ex Japan.
It has the usual DTM stuff plus K&N filter, coilover suspension, rides on 3 piece 20" rims current with nitto rubber.
It is silver grey with tints etc.

That pic is pre tints in the showroom, I've since had cambelt waterpump service done, transmission service and other bits and pieces to baseline the maintenance program. I'm thinking next mish will be a down pipe and tune. More focussed on reduction of exhaust gas temp to prolong the life of the turbo than gains in hp although apparently these can pump it up to around 260hp+
Proud owner of a 2006 Audi RS4 Avant in Daytona Grey today. I've been wanting a Wagon for a while and when this came up the was no time wasted!
The car has 97k kms on clock with full service history from Giltraps. The car also came with 2 years on the silver circle warranty.
It's bone stock with a few nice touches.
Recaro bucket seats
Piano Black trim
Heated front and rear Seats
Cargo liner ( rubber Matt in boot)
Tow bar ( for my bike )
Looking forward to summer cruising....

Just think maybe it had a hard life, Was ex Queenstown so maybe ski field trips/gravel roads..
Everything was pretty well worn lots of maintenance stuff, brakes way past what I would let them get, exhaust flex joints long past it expiry date (wire was actually frayed and could see its internals), headlight faults, indicator faults, alignment out all worn on the insides probably due to the lowered springs, was getting CEL codes on the secondary air pump (wires were corroded and shorting out), temp sensors bla bla bla.
Add to it the Cam chains and torque converter had also been done recently it had a small (well large) fortune spent on it.
Did try to reach out via VASK to the place that last serviced it since they are a member and and was only a short period of time since last service, but they never replied.
The dealer was willing to fix it all but I not a patient person at the best of times and didn't have the time to muck round swapping cars out while it went back and forth getting fixed each time.
Its still for sale and the last time I was at the dealers picking up some paperwork it was back in for something else to be fixed..
Warning to anyone looking don't touch it!
I do now have the performance itch that needs scratched so currently looking at importing a B8 S4 Avant

Thanks very much for the detailed reply. It does sound like a problem car which had done a reasonable number of kilometres I expect? While I do like the Audi S and RS cars I don't think I could live with their maintenance bills as the kilometres get up there. Mind you a lot of new cars today are probably the same with so much tech in them.
To get my S4 I traded in my late 2005 B7 A4 3.2 Avant. I liked that car a lot but it was a little small and the mileage had just gone over 160,000km. The silly little issues were starting and I decided to trade it on something a bit bigger. After test driving the S4 I had to have it. It only had 33,000km on the clock and I was able to get a silver circle warranty on it to ease my concerns of the weird (and expensive) German foibles the cars seem to have. It does go well but the suspension is not really built for NZ roads and the 19" wheels don't help that.... but it looks the part.
Hope you can import your S4 without problems.
regards
A bit more about my B8 S4...
I traded my A4 3.2 Avant for the S4 sedan in November last year. A 5 year old car with 33K on the clock, finished in Monsoon Grey. I'm not sure what was standard on these S4's here but the 19" wheels seem like they might be an optional upgrade, as is the B&O sound system. It has the MMI down by the gear selector and has navigation. No sports diff but it has the drive select option for the engine, gearbox and steering. I was also offered a Silver Circle warranty and gladly took it.
Problems to date.... It has fallen foul of the silliness that can occur with the sensors on the bonnet release, causing the MMI to tell you it has no oil (or whatever the bottom of the scale is trying to tell you). Oh to have a real dip stick... The B&O upgrade had a sting in the tail in that this option screws you up if you need top tether fixing for child's car seats. The parcel shelf isn't structural enough to try to mount anything in. Pity this wasn't pointed out by the salesman as we were talking about wanting to put children car seats in this car. I don't know why Audi don't fit Avant seats as part of the upgrade as these have the fixings in the back of the rear seat... Something to wary of. The dealer did manage to fit a tether low down on the back of one of the seats and this has meant we can use the child's seat we needed.
The car certainly has a lot of get up an go, but it does have quite a firm ride (worse than my workmates RS6 Performance on 21" wheels!), and the steering does track with the bumps more than I expected. 18' wheels might be a better option for the varied NZ road surfaces with this car. The tyres are Dunlop's SP Sport Maxx and they don't like big puddles lying on the road in heavy rain. I will be changing to Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 3's when the Dunlop's have worn out. I had the 2's on the old Audi and liked the tyre.
Fingers crossed the tech in the car keeps going as designed....

Congrats on the purchase! I've had a fair share of issues with my NZ NEW B8 S4 Avant when I first purchased it, so if you ever do run into some issues happy to lend an ear and advice as I probably have gone through it all
- Stronic gearbox
- Mechatronics unit
- Coolant leaking
- Door locks jamming
Good thing you have the silver circle warranty, far better than thew aftermarket ones as the maximum claim value is a larger sum
Finally got my suspension, BBK and a few other bits in from Ben's B8 S4 super saloon

Went in for a cert last week and failed on
Wheel bolts 5 and a half turns, requirements 6 and a half turns <-- lolololol
Bolts of front floating rotors need to have 2mm of thread showing in the rear <--- lolololol as the bolts were flush on the hat
Annnnnd camber needs to be dialed to 0!!!!!!
Here I was thinking that I was going fail on rubbing, to low, crap setup brakes to big blahblahblah lolololo
Anyways, super happy with how this S4 has turned out after a few hiccups over the first year of ownership

Sad to hear you have had problems from new... It shouldn't really happen given the price paid for new S vehicles, or even the standard models...
Thanks for the offer of advice 'when' I strike issues...
I'm starting to think a nice old HQ wagon might be the ideal simple vehicle... that I could even work on to boot!

An amazing looking wagon!
Those wheels are big ... watch out for potholes!
Latest project wanted a nice sunny day cruzer with plenty of torque 4 wheel drive which I could pop the roof and drive. I ended up with a rare in NZ A4 s-line 3.0 Tdi Convertbile tiptronic low k's in nice condition.
Plan to remap to increase torque to around 550 NM and have a user friendly car, well under 16k.
What car do you have? A4
Year/Model/Engine/Colour/Spec/etc. 2003/Avant Quattro/3.0/Black/Manual, NZ New, leather, low kms, tint glass
Modifications and plans? 18' Audi Wheels, chrome delete emblems
Photos as well. Would consider sale $11900 or trade for R32 or Mark VI Golf GTI

Think i saw you today driving around the bays? Your plate VRSPRG? or similar??
Hi Guys,
Just pick this up. 05 paddle shift.
Go into get this done on the 14th of Dec,
Tuning
Stage 2 Tune (with the inclusion of de-cat pipes and cold air intake)
+40hp @ Peak
+60nm @ Peak
The addition of the cat delete pipes massively opens bottom end torque delivery and give the car a much better power curve across the range, better throttle control via a linear throttle spread and better off the line drive..
Exhaust
A full exhaust system from Milltek will consist of cat delete pipes and a cat back combined ? Depending on the level of sound your after we?d recommend the non-center resonated cat back they sound by far the best ? the resonated center set up is a bit too quiet for most, especially if you really want to hear it bark when you?re on the gas, conversely when just cruising about on light throttle the system is very compliant.
.
Intake
We have used the EVOMS brand on S4?s in the past and find they are a great fit, look good, add a nice front-end growl and importantly they hugely aid throttle response.
Looking forward to the journey
Cheers Smiladon

Starting to grow on me but I have the stock wheels and will be tidying those up.
New here but have
2008 b7 avant- black
2008 b7 avant- white
2001 b5 avant- black
1995 Audi 80 avant- silver
1982 rx7
1996 rx7 rmagic import
2002 s4 avant- silver ( family car)
2010 q7 v8 tdi ( soon to be ex family car )
2015 sr5 hilux ( work Ute )
2000 B5 S4 Santorni Blue Sedan with black/aluminium interior.
Currently engine out and on a stand but previously stage 3 tuned on K24 Hybrids.
Aiming to max out the limits of the stock block while building up another engine in the background with 2.8/2.4 heads and a set of rods.
Have bought some DZX-274 Turbos from Turbo Concpets in the US. Basically mega RS6's with 49/68 compressor and 45mm 9 blade turbines. Apparently 6-700hp turbos but this motor wont see that.
Re-routing intake and charge piping and will look at dual side mount water to air coolers, I don't want to hack the car up for an FMIC but shoudl be able to get a heat exchanger in there without too much hassle.
That's it really. Hoping to get 500hp at the wheels but anywhere north of 400 will be fun enough :)

Hi thanks, yes semi, waiuku, working a night shift that night so will be sleeping during the day. The car is currently off the road and engineless anyway.
My 2 year old daughter calls it "Daddy blue car, where motor?"
Patrick?s old S4?
Yup that's the one
Just got a new RS4 Avant. Navarra blue, carbon fibre interior trim.
Still running it in. This is my first European car.

Nice,
Pic please
might get one next year, will require sports diff option thou
Hmmm just tried posting a pic and it said "The upload folder is full. Please try a smaller file and/or contact an administrator." Any admins around?
I didn't want to wait for 3-4 months to custom order the car so I took one that was in NZ without the sport diff. It still seems to go around corners pretty well though and has a ton of traction out of slow corners without much understeer. I'm haven't driven one with a sport diff so not sure how much difference it makes. I suspect not having a V8 in the front probably makes more difference than the sport diff...

Stunning! :D
very very nice!
Had my 2011 S4 B8 Avant for around 6 months. No mods yet but replacing the front bushings to allow Camber and Caster adjustment to fix the pulling left issue.
Was a Japanese import over a year ago and came fully specced including adaptive cruise control, carbon trim, heated seats and B&O sound system.
Trying to upload a photo but getting Upload Storage Full error.
Beeker - the matrix headlights are awesome. I didn't actually realise what they did until I'd had the car for a couple of months. Just leave them on high beam auto and they chop out bits of the light where there are oncoming cars or cars ahead. You can see them working, with dark patches around oncoming cars. Amazing.
Just found this forum - some great cars here!
Here's my 2001 b5 rs4
Now mostly retired on the Kapiti Coast (car, that is). Has new Mandrus wheels, added last year - was victim to bent "soft" original rims.
Otherwise, all stock, done about 208,000 kms (was my regular commute for nearly 5 years). Still makes me laugh out loud to drive though!
Having same problem as Birdo with posting pics - will put up a couple as soon as I solve for that!
welcome aboard, love to see some pics of your b5 rs4 8)

Uploading pics to the forum does not work so well. Best thing to do is host them with en external site and then link them between img quotes. Any hosting site works except google. So you can use, photobucket, imgur, flickr etc.
Thanks for that McDoof - I'll do what I can!
Let's see if this works!
2001 b5 rs4, one of the NZ new ones -208,000 kms, going well, even if now with Mandrus wheels. And a spare tire!
Now i look at them, the pictures are very ordinary - I'll do better when a get a chance...

Welcome! I think i saw your car in wellington once i was visiting!
Very sharpe in black!
That's better - thanks again for the help, McDoof!
2006 RS4 Daytona Grey mostly standard, but with an RNS-E head with bluetooth. Mint car - carefully looked after by previous owner, and loved by me. Bought to keep in a garage and drive for fun.
Finally was able to get what has been the dream car for some time. Picked it up from Dunedin and drove the best part of 2000k's home up to Auckland with a few detours.
Couldn't be happier, few issues to resolve but couldn't really care to be honest (maybe about the air con in the current heat), will all happen in time - I intend to make it a keeper for a long time, stoked.

Congrats! Looks stunning! 8)
New to the world of Audi, here's my freshly imported 2014 A4. I love the car, but I'd love it if anyone has experience with making them sound a little nicer...

Welcome! Milltek is a popular sports exhaust maker in the vag world and there are a number of NZ suppliers. I really like supersprint as well but they tend to be more expensive from what I?ve seen.
Great, thank you for the welcome! I'll look into vendors for them in Wellington.
Lots of cleaning to do on this one. :D
