Post by: Phil17b on August 15, 2017, 10:31:03 PM
Hi. Can anyone help me i need to find a front outer CV boot for my 1985 Audi 200TQ. Have tried Repco, Supercheap and local Audi dealer but have not been successful. Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers Phil.

The postage is a bit steep on this one - at 35 quid there's quite a mark up on it since Royal Mail Standard International Parcels postage for a cv boot kit shouldn't be more than a tenner. He's offering free p&p to UK addresses though - maybe you know someone in UK who it can be posted to for free who will post it on?

Sadly i dont know anyone there so ill probably just have to suck it up. Thanks heaps for the info though. Out of curiosity how did you find out its the right size? I purchased one from supercheap based on their matching skills, but it seemed to be too much of a stretch to fit it nicely. Also found  a "match" on Amazon and the other Ebay, however upon asking for the sizing of each hole they also where the seemingly too small in size. The other thing is ive never replaeced a boot before so dont know exactly what the fit should be.

Regards Phil.

If you do a general search on Ebay for a listing for "cv boot for a 200 turbo quattro" you can see what pops up & then do a vehicle compatibility check within one of the suitable looking listings. The bigger trade sellers on Ebay are usually very good at specifying the exact models the part will fit and so the compatibility search on their listings is usually quite accurate. Also, you find some of the bigger/better sellers (especially the VAG parts specialists) will quote an Audi part number in the description, it's then just a case of cross referencing the Audi part number with something like the ETKA catalogue to check that the part number quoted actually matches your model of Audi.

Am guessing in this case the cv boot sizes for quattro and non-quattro 200s will be slightly different? hence why some of the listings show as non-compatible. I had an 1988 200 turbo with the 2B engine in the UK for many years and soon learned that almost every mechanical part (even basic stuff) was slightly different to it's quattro or Audi 100 siblings or older 200s with a different engine code!

As for fitting, am afraid I've always left cv boots to my friendly local garage to do. For the cost of 30 mins or so labour whilst they get it up on the hoist to fit, as against half a days fannying around for me on the drive in the cold grazing the knuckles it's one of those jobs I think it's value for money to pay someone to do. I used to use a specialist VAG garage in the UK for all my cars who were excellent, knew the cars inside out & didn't charge the earth. Since moving to NZ have been lucky enough to find a local garage who is a bloody good old school mechanic and who is happy to let me source any hard to get in NZ parts for my "odd" cars.

Excellent thank you very much for the hugely helpful info. I have not used the ETKA catalogue before so finding someone who has been there before is very helpful.
Again i appreciate the the help, thanks.

I've used NZ Post YouShop for quite a number of items. works pretty good.

Ebay takes a cut on a lot of the shipping options on the auctions, so some end up artificially high.
