Title: Project/conversion car price debate
Post by: RS ZWEI on November 30, 2017, 11:49:31 AM

There have been quite a few discussions about the asking price values of a NZ built E46 M3 wagon conversion that is currently for sale on TM:

https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-1474985701.htm

The concept is pretty cool and seems pretty well executed to replicate the one E46 M3 Touring that BMW built.

The question though is, what is a value of a said project car (yes its easy to say "What someone is prepared to pay for it).  Basically its two written off cars put together. A similar E46 M3 coupe in the current market done similar kms would be worth somewhere in the early to mid 20K's. What should this car with a 318 VIN be worth? Should it be worth more than the equivalent M3 coupe?
I guess for us VAG guys, the equivalent would a B5 A4 sedan fitted with the running gear and body panels from a written off B5 RS4. And would this be worth more than a factory B5 RS4?

To me rarity of a car only increases it?s value if it?s a limited run from the factory.  Anything that has been modded to make it rare doesn?t really increase its value.  That said there are probably some notable exclusions like say singer with Porsche.

Tech ically interest and looks to be well done, but less than a coupe. Auto as well whicb is less desirable.

a well done fake m3 is still a fake m3

plus smg - yukkkkkkk

definitely worth less than a genuine e46 m3

$58k ?
the guy is on crack

$14-15k tops.

special car for special buyers

Looks nicely executed but surely it's not worth anywhere near what an M3 of the same vintage would.

Value is both objective and subjective.  $58,000 is way too high for any rational person, but if someone wants to pay that price, then clearly it's worth $58,000 to them.
