Whie and undouted masterpiece of engineering, i cant really see the point of this in NZ uess it lives in your garage at the track. Probably does 100kph in first gear. Our road system just makes it kindof redundant.

You can say that about any of the higher power cars but for some I expect the kudos of the big engine badge is worth the increased purchase, running and insurance costs. Might be cheaper to either de-badge a medium range car or just fit the badge of the high end version - a lot of people wouldn't know the difference.
Then again, though, sometimes the tactile driving experience can be much better even when one doesn't use the performance potential so, if one has the funds, why not?

I think the enjoyment of cars like this is that they are unusable.

While undoubtedly there is blissful enjoyment to be had going full throttle in an underpowered car, stroking it along some windy back roads and extracting every ounce of performance. I would argue equally there is something to be said for crazy cars that scare the sh_t out of you.

I vividly remember driving a friends JZA80 Supra with 600ish HP and the sheer insanity of it, the discipline you had to have to be gentle on all the inputs, the way it completely garnered your concentration and the adrenaline rush of the experience was immensely rewarding. I imagine the GT2 is like that but escalated a few levels in refinement - though I hope it is still raw and scary and ridiculous and unusable - because for me, that is the point.

That's kinda what I mean, you are driving and communicating with the vehicle, not just sitting there steering, insulated from the whole thing.
For me, it is less appealing, overall, than a built, tarmac spec MkII Escort with a Millington, G60, etc. but I still have a touch of envy for your friend, Bullseye - hope he enjoys the heck out of it  8)
