Been thinking about getting the Mk1 sorted out over winter and my biggest decision is....what colour I want it to be. Its a faded shade of Mars red at the moment and I'm not 100% sure on respraying it in its original shade as the samples I've made up look to orange for my taste.
So after a beer the other day, conversation turned again to what colour I want to go when the big question reared its ugly head....whats the best colour on a Mk1?? So I thought why not ask everybody....
Whats your favourite colour on a Mk1??
Ill be repainting mine its original miami blue, its quite alot of work changing colors

yep original color, I only have the one golf, mk1 3door diesel
Miami Blue is one of my favorites and there are a couple of cool greens too. But changing colours is a bitch...
Mine is staying black.

After a cheeky google search I've realised I have seen the colour before...just always thought it was a custom colour rather than a vw shade.
Damn that Miami blue is nice!

That blue looks great! ...
I was tempted to go to brown on my mk1 recently but never got round to it.

Mars red is where its at ;)

Great range of colors used overseas. Maimi blue and flat green look good. What color is your interior as that should be a consideration.

I remember hearing there were two shades being called Mars Red. One was more orange in colour, which is what I think my old Mk1 was. Could be wrong, it was years ago.

Porsche brown would look awesome, but you're right it probably won't work with the blue interior.

What was the factory colour?
Personally, I'd love a white one.
Yea I had thought about painting interior. But they always end up looking like ass in a few years.
It was originally silver. Which for me is to bland. I'd love to do it a dark brown if I could find some matching interior? Or even a dark blue to match the blue. But I can't find any I like
So if you want to keep blue interior, and you don't want anything too freakish and you want a dark colour, I guess you have - Blue, Black and Grey to choose from.
Have you got a photo of the interior?
Actually if you like Porsche brown, then how about some of the Porsche dark purples? I've seen a few purple and burgundy Porkers with blue interiors.
Like this colour, it's sort of purplish/reddish brown:
(https://www.vask.org.nz/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fstancewords.stanceworks.netdna-cdn.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2014%2F07%2FIMG_6378.jpg&hash=892833370ea2bc8e960c34e2107fe21528904f68)
Options Dave, white, silver or Blue Oceanic Metallic perhaps...? Or you could get your dash and door cards re skinned to match brown?
Yea not a fan of
Light colours. I do like that Porsche colour but I already have 3 purple cars so may be a bit strange if I had another. Any nice dark greens? Maybe
More Lago blue. Could be a good option for the Jetta, and keep the blue interior?

I thought so. It's timeless in a way.
Where do you chaps get your paint from using old Mk1 paint codes? The paint shops up here system doesn't go back far enough to use early Vw paint codes.

Yea but te Volkswagen paint code means nothing to them as there system doesn't have Vw colours that old. Where did you get the paint for your Rocco from?
Painter out west mixed it. Gave him the coe, and looked it up. Hes gone now though.
