13 NZ new and a few imports. I think at least 5 or 6 of those are vask members.

Go on then I'll go first.

1990 VW Corrado 1.8 16v

- Black diamond brake discs
- Factory calipers painted red all round
- AEZ Pyron 17" wheels fitted with Toyo
- Nology Hot wires HT leads
- Debadged front grill by FK
- Koni springs
- Milltek exhaust system
- K&N
- Upgraded headlights

Plans for the future: 1.8T upgrade with a Garret turbo, chipped and TDI gear box. Would like to get her to 300hp easy with this, any more and i'll need 4x4 and stronger engine bits. I've read they can go as high as 600-700 hp.

OK, 13 NZ new, 1 written off(white one) and 5 imports.

Mine was the 6th one registered on the 28.03.90 chassis number K_014533, in Tornado red, with black/petrol interior. Other than that its standard 1989 "K chassis" spec, which is sunroof.
Sales type 509074, meaning KR 16v with a AGC 5 speed manual. So far its the only one I know of to have manual windows.

- Bilstein B6 Sport shock absorbers
- 23mm front anti roll bar with SuperPro bushes
- MK4 R32 front lower rear suspension bush (solid)
- braided steel brake flexi lines
- 280x22mm front brake upgrade from the G60 Corrado
- Znoelli 12 slot disc rotors all round
- BBM solid front engine mount
- replaced all the suspension rubber bushes and stops
- cleaned and polished wheel arches  :D
- Yokohama A048 intermediate tyres
- external 13 row oil cooler with thermostat takeoff plate
- front upper, lower and rear stress bars
- K&N Air filter
- modified air box
- upgraded headlight loom
- new Volkswagen BBS alloys (single piece)

Have yet to fit, enlarged motorsport sump, VW windage tray and a 9A oil pump.

Mines a nz new '89 16v 1.8 (I think all the NZ new ones were the 1.8 16v with no cat.) And no rear sway bar for some reason. Anybody got a NZ new one with a rear sway bar??  It was standard (front and back) in other countries.
Jamex -40mm springs
Koni adjustable struts
16" alloys, 16 spoke like the factory (dated looking) 15" wheels
EBC Greenstuff brake pads (highly recommended)
Momo evo sport part suede steering wheel (nice on cold mornings!)
de-seamed rear panel
later 3 bar grill
VR6 bonnet
modified airbox
King Dragon air filter

chassis K...014518

I also have a black 2.0 16v Corrado, ex japan, for spare parts. Anybody after any precious Corrado bits???

Neil will be able to fill you in on the details of mine (re # registered, chassis #, etc).

'90 KR 16v, 5 speed man.
Recently repainted in the original Tornado Red, Platinum (grey) interior.
largely standard apart from Koni T/A shocks, Remus Exhaust, MOMO Wheel and the obligatory aftermarket panel filter.

I bought it in '94 to replace my then beloved Golf2 16v, back then it was a one owner car with 27k's on the clock.

Plans? Where to start?

Firstly finish the exterior refurbish.

Then: the parts bin (laundry cupboards *ahem*) is full of stuff accumulated to fit when I get breathing space on the house reno:

280mm Brakes, braided lines, suspension bushes, engine mounts, sway bars, strut braces, short shifter, oil cooler, OZ alloys (they're in the garage) various electrical bits and pieces and some engine upgrade bits   >:D

Still trying to decide on lowering or not.  40mm is a big drop as far as my driveway is concerned.

I have a feeling that they were standard here too.  Mine has one, I think Neil's does too.  They are largely hidden inside the rear torsion beam and so are a bit difficult to spot.

As for spare bits...what have you got? (Trying to sound nonchalant...)  I'm looking for a rt headlight reflector, maybe the plastic grille insert that goes in the front bumper and...the plastic striker plate clip on the rear hatch frame that the boot opener assist hits.

Nice Wheels btw.  They really help modernise the car's look.

Yeah the Corrado has quite a long nose overhang, and the factory spoiler is fairly deep. I've lowered 40mm and the chin spoiler does scrape occasionally, and you have to stop short of some carpark "stop" curbs or scrape your way on to it and then scrape your way off embarrassingly. You could consider taking the spoiler off and trimming it slightly, something I toyed with but never got round to.

It's a whole car minus rear panel, hatch and rear bar. Grill insert in bumper? Yeah its got those but the jap import bumper is slightly different (well the spotlight mounts were different any way

Can do the rear catch plate thingie, kind of protective of those headlamps though...  does the reflector pop out if you open the light? If it does then I could probably part with that...

So Rado, is your parts Corrado a VR6? If so is it a 2.8 or a 2.9? Manual or auto?
Title: Re: Corrado Owners - Your cars please
Post by: Rado on April 18, 2007, 11:54:04 AM
No it's the 2.0 litre 16v, the bonnet I stole off it is the VR6 style bonnet with the middle section raised instead of lower like the early 16v. and the front edge is steeper giving a more blunt front to the car.

Do you have any dash parts?  I would be keen on the center panel of the dash?  What year is it and what colour is the interior?
Title: Re: Corrado Owners - Your cars please
Post by: Rado on April 18, 2007, 12:06:51 PM
Yep got the dash but it is LEFT HAND DRIVE.(oops I forgot to mention that sorry) Black interior on this one. It's a '94. But black. Oh and manual, 5 speed.

I don't blame you to be honest!  The reflector will come out with some dismantling, but it would be a little dis-ingenious of me to take it from you - the lenses aren't too expensive at the dealer's but the rest is only available from the dealer as a complete part nowdays apparently at mind-blowing expense! I'll try and get mine re-chromed first and if that doesn't work perhaps I'll get back to you.

I would appreciate the catch plate though (it's a little difficult to get off - you have to be careful and squeeze the tabs that hold it in from under the rear sill.  Don't ask me how I know!).

Oh and if anyone has the extra gauge pod for a RHD Corrado that they want to part with...  ;)

Funnily enough my girlfriend didnt like the left hand drive thing heh heh, sitting on the right reaching for an imaginary steering wheel. I considered putting a steering wheel there, would make getting pulled over for speeding kinda amusing...
It has got the extra gauges but I'm using those

Did you get the extra gauges from the LHD console?  I was always under the impression that they wouldn't fit.  If they do that's nice to know - opens up a few possibilities.

Not wanting to burst your bubble Craig, but the lenses and reflectors are LHD & RHD specific.

Ah yes.....  It would point in to oncoming traffic a bit wouldn't it.... you can put a piece of black tape over the offending area like the owners manual suggests but that would be naff. Now my spare parts Corrado is a Japanese import, but it's left hand drive ( I've heard that the japanese like a bit of exclusivity and sometimes get a left hand drive for that! surely not...) BUT! Japan drives on the LEFT!  so I just don't know now...  will have to compare the lights with my NZ new one.

Question:  My 'rado has a slight knock/rattle in the steering column if you go round a bend pretty enthusiastically and hit a few bumps. Sound familiar to anybody? Probably just showing its age...

Ahhh Rado, Thats a nice looking car you have there, because of you, my wife wants a Corrado, She saw it at the festival, nice wheels & nice stance, It was getting alot of attention from onlookers.

How about we swap cars & YOU pay us the cash difference ;)

We had the White Golf GTi 16V  :)
I was a little surprised when we got first as I thought your car was the sure fire winner, we also took the best daily driver award for that car on the night as well, so we were happy with that :)

He he, yeah my Corrado got 2nd in the watercooled in the end, so that was cool because Tracey and I spent a day grooming it!  Hmm yes if you ever want to part with that GTi get in touch....   I don't think I'll sell the Corrado though  =/

I was soooo impressed by so many of the cars there, I've never toyed with anything aircooled before but now I can't help feeling like doing a Variant or even a Combi ( my girlfriend would faint, 3 vdubs plus 2 other cars here already!)

I see the spare Corrado was registered as a 1996 (even though its a "K" 89 chassis) Volkswagen Corrado Mobile Machine ;D Obviously that makes the impact and LHD reg's irrelevant. Could you have used it as a daily driver or were they specail conditions on the registration?

Nice! Your car looks really clean and original. I got my rado with 100,000 kms on the clock and original suspension and I was dissappointed in the handling, I knew Corrados where supposed to be really good. All sorted now, I've never regretted lowering it. Having driven the black rado with other suspension I highly recommend the set up in my red rado, supple yet serious under pressure. Jamex with Koni sports aaaahhh..... I don't think your spoiler would have hit the ground any worse with it all firmed-up but lower.

Thanks. Mine handles very well, so no stress there, and its nice and stiff with the suspension upgrades I have done, but I think if I lowered my car would be good for looks and not a lot else. No offence intended.
We will have to get as many Corrado's together as possible and drive each others to see.

Exactly, they have a good stance when lowered, but I'm just going to be the guy that has a Corrado with Golf Country ride height  ;D

Not that annoying guy with airbag suspension? 'jump, jump, jump, jump around!' ;)

Lowered cars do tend to have a nice stance to a point.
& as far as them handling better when lower, I disagree to a point as well.

My Golf had been lowered by its previous owner & it was just plane horrible to drive & handled like a woolworths trolley
I actually 'raised' the front end by 10-15mm (still lower that standard 16V) & it is no exaggeration to say that it transformed the car completely for the better.
Now it even looks better (too low to me looks like something is wrong) & the car rides & handles as it should, Just love driving it now!!
Before, I was always dodging even small imperfections in the road as it would crash & bash over every ant & the front spoiler would scrape over our drive.
Not any more ;D

Good to see you registered on this forum.
Rado was proberbly in the same boat as me??

Cheers Shay,
Yeah Tony Hutchinson at the Festival mentioned this site, cheers Tony. And that was typical wasn't it...  perfect weather for ages and then steady drizzle on the day all the cars were on show. Oh well, it was awesome anyway I just get the feeling a lot of the public missed out on an amazing show just cos they weren't out there.

Your Crado looks great :o.  Nice colour too. When I got mine painted it had the metallic black bonnet, rear bumper, panel, and hatch on it and I considered doing it all like that ( throw the doors on, front bar and sunroof,  not much left to paint.) 'cos the red is slightly hairdressery, but stuck with the original. Corrados look quite different in different colours(!). Quite liked the black though.....
Crikey I'll have to post some decent pics... :-[

some nice cars in her...thought i'd post mine up..
1990 16v,  it's all fairly standard apart from the wheels, and a momo steering wheel.

I've had a few cosmetic challenges with it over the last year, but I've pretty well got those sorted now, and she's running sweet.  did a road trip around the island last week, and she performed very well.

This is a photo from january, we went camping in the Wairarapa, hence the dusty pic.

I'm noticing with envy everyones front lip spoiler...if anyone has a spare one..or know of one available, I'd appreciate it...

Ive got my damaged old one, it would be repairable its yours if you want it, just might have to cover shipping down to you depending on the cost.

You need to check if you still have the securing clamp that runs along the bottom of the bumper, it secures it and spoiler to the radiator support at the bottom.

The Storm is Green, but I cant get the chassis number to work, so I cant tell what colour the interior is.

Great to see another Corrado!  Looking at the pic it has had the suspension done? It looks like it's sitting on -40mm springs? And were the wheels already on it? Is it NZ new?

Not wanting to answer nzgti's questions but its NZ new, the first owner was typ53's parents. PR*** was the last NZ new car in the country. When I owned it, it had Tri-spoke wheels on it!! I bought it to go racing, but thought better of it, glad I did, it looks very good now.

Thanks for the answer Neil, I am glad you decided not to race it.
I saw 2 Other Corrados here in Wellington the other week,  One is the White one I used to own, and the other I'd never seen before, a purplish, black colour, 16v, I just saw it at a distance, going the otherway.  I'm told thats its an english import.  unsure though, I'll need to keep an eye out again.

an no I've not lowered it.  The guy I bought it off had put some new shocks in it, and replaced the spring with golf springs.  He says for more comfort.  I've still got the original spings in the shed.

The Wheels I bought of another Vask member April last year, complete with Wolfsberg edition centre caps.

Aaagh... My rado used to have a slightly missmatched rear bumper colour, I'm thinking it got the number plate damaged in a rear end hit and got issued  new number plates.
Tri-spoke wheels!  :-*Ouch! I bet they didn't stay on it for long :D

Yours used to be OO8090, but then it had a Personalised Plate on it ( IMACS ), hence the later plate on it.

I'm glad that PR is back looking good again - I've always had a soft spot for it, even with those ugly 3-spoke rims! It's the reason I ended up with mine (a dodgy 020 box/diff was the reason for it happening when it did).

The purplish one has been in or around Welly for a few years.  I test drove it in 2000 or 2001 with a view to replacing the Roughy which was starting to turn slightly orange at that point.  Back then the dealer wanted $17k for it.  I did like the face-lift interior even though it was, I think, beige.

Strangely the other one that I regularly saw in Welly was Neil's car.  It gave me grief the first time I discovered it one day on Oriental Parade when I mis-took it for my car (parked 3 spots further down the road) and spent about 5 minutes trying to get into it, swearing and cursing at my door locks and alarm which had apparently decided to spontaneously reject both my remote and Key.

It's the price of rarity I guess.  At least the Meter Maid who was close by had the good grace to merely smirk.

For those interested there was two 16v's imported, one G60 and two VR6's one of which is a Storm.

... and I think mine's the other imported VR6.  Midnight blue, black leather interior, everything pretty much standard as far as I know, reg UQ***, based in South Auckland.  It's not a Storm although has all the same doodads.  I bought it off Trade Me a couple of years ago and am slowly undoing the "improvements" made by previous owners, namely:
- re-installing the secondary muffler in place of the badly-welded tube, so that I can now hear myself think whilst at motorway speeds ;D
- removing the Rolo roof rack that was bolted straight through the sunroof mechanism ??? ??? >:( >:(  (although quite useful at the mo', it's gotta go eventually)

Took it up to Port Jackson recently and have consequently shaken lots of crap into the temperature sensor O-rings on the thermostat housing, so now it leaks a tad but I should have that sorted this weekend.  One of these days I'll also fix the driver's seat heater and fit some decent speakers.  No other mods planned.

It's done 120000 miles, gets used and abused every day, and I dip into this forum every so often for some inspiration.  Thanks, guys!

Yup!  That's mine alright, and looking a lot cleaner than it is at the moment, I can tell you.

Yes, the previous owner had persistent problems with rough idling and oil burning, so eventually put in a new 2.9l block - still the same head gear I think by the sound of the tappets.  Amazingly, his insurance somehow covered the $8500 cost of the whole exercise!  It certainly runs well now, even better when I can find 98 petrol.  I had a VR6 in England (dark metallic green, grey cloth interior) for about 5 years, selling it at 145000m, and the engine was still running a treat so I don't know why the original engine in this car behaved so badly.

Other things I'm looking (listening?) out for are squeals coming from the alternator belt tensioner - I had that go on me (in England) at 125000 and it ruins the belt as well as your whole day, really.  I may just replace this as a preventative measure.

The other thing I'm grateful for in Auckland is that it never freezes at night, so I've never had to unlock the rear brakes with hot water.  As it is, the LH caliper has a marginally-effective handbrake cam, but I understand that this is a common fault.  I can still pull the brake hard enough to hold it on hills but my wife can't - luckily she's damn good at heel-toe hill-starts.

Yep :)
although did a day trip to Taupo and went back to Napier on the road just south of Waiuru (called Gentle Annie)
If you haven't done it you NEED to ? it?s the coolest road I've driven, through 150k's of isolation with 30k's of it unsealed!

we were followed most of the way (although of course on the sealed road it couldn't keep up) by a Unimog, and near the end of the unsealed part it caught up with us!

Hey Carpoid, how's it going, long time no hear? I met you on the Corrado Forum about a year ago - i'm the white kiwi Corrado that was known as Pacific Shack. How is Australia going, well for you mate? What's it like driving her up and down George Street? I can imagine she gets a lot of great looks? Great car mate, followed all of your posts on the site. Ian.

I've since moved to Byron Bay where i don't get stuck in traffic anymore, was driving me mad in Sydney, hardly even put it in 5th gear in the 2 years i was there !!
Hows NZ ?? Is your Corrado going well?? Any plans for it? I keep dreaming of a 24v conversion!!

Hey

I thought I'll post pics of "Busy 150" after a polish. It's standard at the moment but got some "mild plans" for it when I return from the UK.

My mild plans include
- Black Diamond Discs + EBC Greenstuff + Goodridge Hoses
- Weitec Ultra GT 40/40 Suspension
- Jetex Exhaust
- New Alloys
- Repair rust and paint
- New gray Door Cards
- Half decent stereo and alarm

No other plans as I intend to get a house next year after my Big O.E.

I thought I'll post pics of "Busy 150" after a polish. It's standard at the moment but got some "mild plans" for it when I return from the UK.

My mild plans include Bilstein Dampers and H & R 40mm Springs, remove any rust and reprep all dodgy paint areas. The KR 16v runs alright so will leave it stock. I hope to get a pair of G60 280mm Calipers/carriers and Brembo Sport Slotted discs and EBC Greenstuff for the braking department or else use get pads as mentioned and some braided goodridge hoses. And replace the ricer wheels for some euro flair BBS's.

No other plans as I intend to get a house next year after my Big O.E.

You should straighten thta front number plate.
Car looks good though.

Seeing as how you're going to be bringing some stuff back from the UK, have a look at www.corrado-teile.de

They have a bunch of stuff that may interest you on there, including front lips.  The Std NZ lip was 90mm deep, but they also sell the US spec one which is 50mm deep - it will stop you banging the front lip on every other driveway after you've lowered your car.

Worth checking out german and swedish too. I use to go there when I lived in london and they have a great range of bits which help.

Corrados look great lowered. I've got mine done a couple of years back, and yes do need a new chin lip, as mines on it's last legs. Worth getting new some NOLOGY HT leads too, mine runs much smoother on them.

Enjoy your car - I love mine to bits, and have a feeling it'll still be with me in 10 years time!

Hey

Cheers guys, I'll welcome any tips at this stage.

UPDATE:
I ripped off the door sill wear strip on the drivers side and found the dreaded brown cancer, not too bad (A bit of bubbling and some holes) so I'll need someone to cut the bits out and weld new steel. The arches need attention as well as the drivers side front quarter as it appears someone has tried using a jack at a non lifting point. I get the impression the car has had the odd bump and bog has been applied poorly to the affected areas.

Thanks to Rambo I received my K & N panel filter today and replaced the "new $63" paper filter that German Automotive were supposed to have replaced during "the rados comprehensive service about 1 1/2 ago. Spoke to Andrew and he said the filter was on back order and they forgot to install the filter. I asked for a refund because of their negligence but could only settle for 50% so I'm miffed. Apart from that the K&N is a welcome change to the dirty old item.

My deal with the G60 setup has fallen through but the same guy is offering a pre 1996 Mk3 Gti setup assuming Girling 54s and carriers but I might just get Black Diamond Discs, Goodridge SS braided hoses and EBC Greenstuff.

Anyway I can't wait to get my car fully sorted.

Talk soon

Haha, yeah it's still running great :)
I've fixed it up a bit, cause various sound system setups and modifications over the years (as well as a whole in the dash board from when someone stole the head unit) had made lots of the interior a bit messy, so I swapped out bits from my old car and its looking spick and span again now
Title: Re: Corrado Owners - Your cars please
Post by: typ53 on September 26, 2008, 11:33:07 PM
Hard to believe it was an insurance write off a few years back (because of the burglary that caused the hole in the dash).  I think Neil bought it at auction for $1500 a few years back and used it as a donor for a few parts for his car at the time.

The air con will come in handy soon.  You're very lucky.

Keep up the good work!

- New electric window and light switches
- Door cards front and rear
- VR6 Grill
- VR6 New Hazard & MFA indicator stalk
- Tail lights (no cracks) and In-pro aftermarket clear/red tail lights
- Parcel Tray

I'm currently negoiating for a 50mm front lip so hope all goes well. I think that'll be it for this year, gotta save for Xmas holidays.

Hi, I am looking into getting a Corrado. I had a G60 in the Uk and loved it. Is there any reason why there are so few in Nz? Is there a problem in being able to import them from the Uk for example? Considering a smart VW Golf gti 16v Mk2 also, would need to be mint though as I haven't got time or patience to work on it. Wish I brought my Mk2 Oak Green 16v over 3 years ago now. Any comments appreciated.

They dont meet frontal impact laws and there are no (simple) ways round it.
Title: Re: Corrado Owners - Your cars please
Post by: typ53 on February 07, 2010, 10:24:49 AM
Not too many arrived here from new because they were criminally expensive at the time.  A few imports made it in before frontal impact rules came into force and that was the end of that.  The sole G60 and smattering of VR6s were imports.

That said, cars that are 20 yrs old or more are exempt from the legislation so now that the older ones are turning 20 you could bring an '89 or '90 in.  Another option would be to try the 'special interest vehicle' category exemption from the rules.

That said you'd almost be better off trying to buy a local 16v.  There is/was one for sale in Taranaki on trademe.

And to answer the interior question, its a tan/cream leather interior, exteriors green and had a few suspension tweaks when it lived back over the pond.

Hi all, Just dropping in to update on a few things. The Corrado I bought recently of James, which you have down as black (as does the dealership, Continental motors in Newmarket where it came from) is in fact Graphite and not black. Not 100% sure if there are any other Graphite Corrado's NZ new in NZ. I must admitt I do like the Graphite, it is a really dark metallic charcoal grey sort of colour. I will get a picture on next weekend when I have a moment.

As far as I am aware it is the 1st Corrado registered in NZ and was bought Oct 1989 originally. I have done a few things to her over the past few weeks just to get her looking half respectible which I will put on another posting. basically she is 100% original though down to the Blaukpunkt stereo (which isn't working at the moment). So I am doing her up gradually to be 100% original.

Just thought I would update you on this as she is currently listed on here as black, so I think Vaghag may have the only black Nz new one? :o

That car does look very nice. The previous owner (cynic) was into air cooled VWs and Im pretty sure he was one of the previous owners of my purple VR6.

Corrados are awesome. Not just ones on BBS wheels!

Finally got round to putting some pics on. Here she is. 1989 VW Corrado NZ new (2nd one registered in NZ). She is the only graphite one in NZ. She is 100% original down to the Blaupunkt stereo which is the old pull out brick version. Done a few small things to fix her since I bought her a few months back, all original though. This includes fixing rear wheel arch, repaint of arch and front spoiler and rear panel below lights. Put ne parcel shelf straps on, new button for drivers side door, new VW chrome grill badge, new 2nd hand drivers fog lamp as well as usual cambelt change, full service, new alternator & battery and tyres. Have new heater core to put in and I also need to repair the drivers bolster (I have the original cloth from another Rado from the UK). I also need another window rubber for passenger side as mine is warped, need new VW rear chrome badge and beesting aerial. I want to keep her original, although when I can afford it I want to put some BBS split rims on her.

Time to update some pics of mine - now with BBS RS 003 16x7.5" and 16x8.0"

I hunted NZ for nearly 3 years for a set of these wheels and built them up to what they are now over the past few months:

-Original barrels
-Mirror polished 1.5" lips front, 2.0" lips rear
-Original nuts & bolts all mirror polished and still with BBS scripting on all
-Half height centre caps
-New BBS emblems
-195/45/16 Kumho Ecsta Sport tyres
-Centres and barrels powder coated in 'vivica paladilim silver comet' - looks different in all sorts of light, it's a dark metallic silver but looks like battle ship grey in some pics.

Probably a bit OCD and OTT for most people on here but hey, I have the disease and really like them  ;D

I thought your choice of colour on the wheels looked awesome when I saw your car at Jambo.
Never would have gone there myself but you really pulled it off.
Title: Re: Corrado Owners - Your cars please
Post by: VeeDub on December 06, 2010, 10:16:32 PM
Thanks bruv, colour is really tricky and it's so hard to look at little swatches and imagine the wheels in those colours. I'm happy with them anyway, obviously not everyone will like them but that's what makes things interesting! Bummer I didn't meet ya at Jambo.

I met a few but didn't know who belonged to what car. I arrived a little later with my daughter and pregnant Mrs, I was rolling deep in the baby game! Anyway, your wheels are dope, I'll introduce myself next time.  8)

Have thought about smoked but I want a cleaner look so I'll get some all red OEM lights, match the red 16v badge, nice and clean, works with the blue. A few more niggly bits to be done like smaller tyres up front, tail lights, replacing little bits and pieces etc but it's getting closer and closer to what I've had in my head for the last 6 years

More info is necessary!

What parts did you use for the 24V transplant?

My suspicion levels turned to almost certainty when I saw you needed a face lift bonnet, following your need for various parts (my old 280mm 4x100 discs being one!) ;)

It's running 24v BDE motor with 70,000kms, VR6 O2A box, Sachs clutch, Viper remap & de-immo ECU, corrado VR6 cluster & original key, Woolf 2.5" cat back exhaust, solid front mount, mk3 sub frames, G60 280mm brakes, BMC air filter & mk3 VR6 steel sump. Goes like a cut cat... Mad respect & thanks to 80 Vert for the build.

I've bought 3 other cars to get this one to where it is now. One for parts, one for the wheels, one for the bonnet.

Does this mean the KR is going in the 'rocco?
Not necessarily..

I would comment but he trashed talked me whilst leaving SO2012 - reckons his 24v might have the wood on the Vento. Young fullahs eh, sheesh.  Hahhaaaa.

I will say it sounds unreal though - definitely one of the nicest VR6s I've heard on WOT, lawd they sound magic. Shifts along pretty well too - as you'd expect. All in all a pretty nice grocery getter.  >:D

Yeah for sure T,  24v's are a ripper combo for a great street car, instant torque and response is addictive. You'll have to get some track friendly wheels and tyres and take it for a skid at HD or somewhere soon to explore the potential. You'd have a blast!

Hey what's up guys.  I'm an engineer in the states thinking about emigrating to NZ.  If I do I might import my 16V G60 Corrado.  All the rules say I should be able to drive it there.  How much are Corrados worth in your parts?

No offence but why on earth do you want to come and live here when you have a place like that?
Have you looked at how high property prices are here?
Not to mention the utter crap boxes your money buys here, property has gone insane here.

You will be able to bring your car and keep it left hand drive, however there are hoops to jump through to get it legal especially if modified.
All modified vehicles here need a modified vehicle cert, count on at least 1500-2000 to get it road legal, entry certification will run 700-1000 plus 500-600 for mod cert if nothing else needs doing.
Any underbody rust is an issue, all cars require 6 monthly roadworth check once on the road.

ha, honest opinions are what we're going to need to make this decision.  So thanks!  It doesn't sound like the certification costs would make importing worth it.  I ask because my Corrado is not worth much in the states.  Maybe $4,000. Since they're rare in NZ, I was wondering if an increase in value could offset the cost of importing.

Any why move there?  The mountains, the ocean and lower taxes....

Might be selling my 1989 VW Corrado 1.8 16v soon. Completely original. NZ new. Reason I might sell is I need a day to day car and also a car my 16 year old can learn to drive in and I can't keep the Corrado & get a new car. Colour is graphite charcoal (original) and is a very rare colour. Let me know if anyone is interested/keen.

You biggest problem of all will be the fact that it's left hand drive, doesn't appeal to many people here unfortunately.
I have a few lhd cars and like them for that reason but most don't think like me.
Totally agree with Budalo, most won't say it like it really is...........

That true, but as an x pom one thin NZ doesn't have is all the baggage that comes with living in the Uk or US.......more serious crime & drug issues, mass unemployment.
I know where I'd rather be living

Hi guys, I don't want to hijack this thread too much.  If I'm off my rocker here please let me know in a private message.   ;)

The tax rates I see say that someone in NZ who makes $70k (USD) in NZ pays $14,020 in country tax, where in the US the same person pays $13,430 country + $3,700 state + $3,600 welfare.  And we don't get free college or health care.  Health insurance is an additional $5,000+ per couple.  College is $20,000+ per year.  Town/property tax is an easy $3,000 - $9,000 a year!  And then there's sales tax!  All USD.

Just looking to get out of this mess of a place.  Again, I'm happy to discuss in private messages.  I know car guys are typically helpful around the world.  Thought I'd start some research with my fellow dubbers!  Thanks!

Thanks!
NZ is GREAT!
I think you would be better off selling the Corrado in USA and buy a Harley for the same bucks.
Import that here , flick it and get a Dub here.
