Saw a yellow D2 S8 in Levin on Tuesday (Ash's old car?) and an orange Audi Cabrio on a trailer bring towed by a Tiguan on SH3 near Palmy on Wednesday.
Spotted a coupe quattro (maybe) parked just outside Waikanae Train Station.
It was black/charcoal, white ronal wheels and a white cage inside. Didn't get a good look at the rego but something like PF7xxx

Possibly bound for here (New Plymouth) as next week is the Americana festival .
I see that they have 800 entries so I think gridlock will be the order of the day.
Wow, brave colour choice.
I sat in a Thunderbird at Ted Tracey Cars in Pt Chevalier, Auckland, about 30yrs ago when I were car shopping ($9,995, - same price as an HX Holden Monaro there, which I bought). There was a plate attached to the inside of a door panel which read something like:
Do not lower windows at speeds in excess of 100mph.
I were 18 or so and don't think I'd ever sat in a car which would do 100mph, let alone travelled at over the ton. Coming from a CNG powered 161 cubic inch (2600cc) 1960's Holden, I were impressed with that Thunderbird. But it didn't look anywhere near as cool as the Monaro GTS.

Called Super Shift I think? A separate lever for overdrive, but you could apply it to any gear if I recall right. Later models (like the Sigma) used an electronic motor to select overdrive when you shifted into fifth gear (manual) so it only had the single gearstick again.
AUDI S5 on the bridge Saturday afternoon, not so much notable for the car, but rather for the ahem, gentleman behind the wheel
I'm headed into town on lane 1, towing the trailer to help No2 son shift, Mr S5 comes steaming up and tailgates the car in lane 2, then changes to lane 1 passes the car on his right and back into lane 2 showing that he saved money on fitting indicators to his purchase; net gain, one car length gained! he falls back and on the downslope, I change to lane 2 in front of him because he dozed off, he wakes up and realising that he's been overtaken by a wagon with trailer, sits about 2 metres off the back of the trailer, then tries to change into lane 1, narrowly missing a flash Commodore and slinks back in behind me, once the way is clear he races off to sooth his ego

Mind you, that is the beauty of the VAG evolutionary styling rather than wild styling changes model to model.
The 'bright young things ' call it boring or 'photocopy' styling but for anyone with an ounce of nouse, it is a great process

Yeah, it's back on the road after sorting electrical issues which is great, but too be honest, I don't get to drive it that much anymore. (which has it's pluses and minuses). The wife and I drive to work (via daycare drop off) together and it's easier to chuck the kids into the old beater Hilux.
RS4 is still waiting for parts (new turbo cartridges) - head and top end work is all done and I'm getting gearbox rebuild parts from overseas (may as well sort that 1 > 2nd sticky collar issue while the engine is out! Plus it'll get a new cambelt, water pump and most likely clutch.

Then I plan to rotate between the 2 and the 4 - but it looks like they'll only get the occasional weekend run)

saw an alfa romeo 4c on the bridge the other day, looks very sporty in red - speaking of which, the quatro foglio mama mia or whatever its called, the v6 twin turbo $130k model - I haven't seen a single one on the roads, has anyone seen it? sales must be terrible..

Guilia Quadrifoglio? I have seen a few of them, maybe 5? They sound amazing in the flesh.
New RS 5 at Audi City in London. Fantastic looking.
And a bit of a spotting overload in Mayfair this afternoon... Countach, Murcielago, Aventador S, Testarossa, 355, 488, California T, Cayman GT4, 991 911 GT3 RS, DB11 and Chiron.
Also had a look through the Range Rover Velar and the new Rolls-Royce Phantom (revealed less than two days before - a ridiculously opulent car)
Spotted a silver 80's Audi Coupe heading South on SH1 near Pukerua Bay tonight. Made me smile to see one.

Agree entirely. I saw one the other day and thought it looked very awkward, and all the effort they went to with those doors...why?
That is why the scene is so fkd up .... ::) ... compared to 110 years ago ...

the argument for the rear doors is that they can be fully opened in a tight car park, a bonus if you have children in restraints in the back seats
2 Teslas inside Botany town Centre, opened up so you could get in and have a look. Very nice inside, but not a kid friendly place....
I think the Model X looks better in person than on paper. However those doors are just trouble. They work fine when you have limited space next to you, but I would hate to see the result trying to open them in a multi story car park. Can you imagine the scratches you would get from the low hanging fire sprinklers.

On Saturday while washing my car pulling out from the road opposite me:
A new Civic Type R. I liked the look of it in white more than photos would have led me to believe.
A new style Dodge Charger in orange. Seen that one plenty of times before though.
And then a Ferrari Portifino. Had to look up the personalised plate on car jam to find out what model it was. Looked and sounded very nice.
Continued to wash my car worth a small fraction of the price ☹️

Forgot about this thread lol
About a week ago, was going through the Vic park tunnel in Auckland when I heard an almighty howl about 50 meters back, checked my rearview and saw it's a hypercar
When it came past my mouth dropped in shock and awe - a bright yellow and black, brand freaking new Lamborghini Aventador SV
Must say the exhaust on those things is unbelievably good, can't beat that F1 sound from a V12 NA engine - even once we were out the tunnel I decided to follow and even outside it was super loud, especially those snap downshifts
The one lesson I did learn was not to drive behind a lambo again - the amount of stones it's wheels threw up... way worse than any truck

Last week, in the opposite direction an Urus in dark blue (rego UR??) and yesterday a Q8 in white.
The latter seemed a lot more muted in the flesh than in the preview reports.
The Urus? From the glimpse I got, an sexy but awkward looking SUV. I understand what they're trying to achieve. but unlike the Cayenne, Bentayga and even the Levante which evolved from shapes that could scale up to the larger format, no Lambo design could ever manage it gracefully.

Seems like maybe it's common with Bentley's. There is a black and gold (the windows are gold...) Bentley that drives around the north shore.

Trucking along the NW from Pt Chev in the S8, saw it in the middle lane as I peeled across to the fast lane, I thought gotcha and let rip up the rise and under Patiki bridge, but as we went around the next corner I moved to the left (to go off at Tat) and this flash went past and got fifty clear of me and peeled across 3 lanes to beat me up the Tat off ramp in the most smoothest manner possible, like a F1 car without the noise ..... :P

I saw one at the weekend and I was not too impressed........too poncey to be a workhorse but far too ordinary to be an urban statement.
I think the short wheelbase version will look better but may be the Ford Bronco might be the better choice.
I can't see it lasting 70 years as did it's predessor.

It's a shame that the importers bring in what they
want rather than what the customers would like.
The buyer ends up with second best as they have no alternative without resorting to a lot of trouble, wasting time and money in the process.

TTRS engine conversion? :D
close, I should have googled it, apparently the Rabbit name was reintroduced for the Mk5 and was fitted with a 2.5 litre 150 bhp inline 5, probably a detuned version of the TTRS unit
The Mk5 Golf in North America was badged Rabbit and the base engine in this market (also for the Jetta and also offered in the New Beetle) was the 2.5 I-5. This was back in 2006/7.
Audi Sport later took this base engine and created the 2.5 TFSI, which came out in the TT RS (2009) and RS 3 (2010).
