Title: Burning Smell and smoke coming from engine
Post by: kiakaha on July 06, 2013, 11:15:54 PM
I have a 1997 A6 2.4L V6 and today the oil low indicator came on. I put a small bottle of oil in it last night and thought it would do the trick.
But today only after a km or so the oil light came back on and with a few minutes I noticed a burning smell coming from the engine. I got out and noticed smoke coming from under the bonnet.
Would this be an oil problem or something else. I bought this car on the cheap with the intention of fixing it up. It is very tidy both inside and out. There are other problems ABS light is always on apart when I first got the car. and it goes into limp mode sometimes.
I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to the working of cars. Most of the time I have relied on the service from the dealer. This is the first European car I have owned.

Probably leaking rocker cover gaskets, they drip directly onto the exhaust manifolds
