Title: Not such a good day
Post by: typ53 on September 21, 2008, 05:57:05 PM
I had a cracking start to the weekend.  I was determined to get The Sofa up on ramps in my garage for an investigation of some rather rough running and examination of noisey lifters in one bank of cylinders.

I got down to the street where I park the car and found some delinquents had been roaming the mean streets of the urban battleground that is Remuera over night and decided to smash not one, but two of my rear windows.  Little Ba$tards.  (Not sure why, there was no stereo in it).  So after cleaning that up and struggling to get the car going it was up the driveway to carry on with the weekend's original mission.

Turns out 4 of the lifters were well and truly shagged so I threw caution to the wind and borrowed half a dozen from my Stash of KR project parts. 3 hours of damaged fingers and elbows and one tea break later the old girl had brand spanking new lifters and cam seals and was all set for a test drive.

24 hrs later and she's still taking up space on the ramps.  It transpires that the rough running was likely due to poor fuel pressure from an ailing fuel pump.  The fuel pump relay is working fine, there are no blown fuses nor relevant codes from VAG-COM and, the ECU appears to be doing it's job and the wiring and connectors are clean.

Bugger.

So.  Does anyone have a spare fuel pump lying around that might fit?  A quick scan of Vagcat.com seems to suggest that pretty much any (Audi) Motronic or Digi fuel pump from the early to mid 90's will fit.  The offending part numbers are 8A0 906 091 G or 4A0 201 351 C.

Tips on resurrecting a dodgy fuel pump would be most appreciated too.

Damn about the windows man just what you need when struggling to get it going.
