Yeah, that pile of trees behind the car is a weekend's worth of work. We needed to move the shelter belt over, so new trees will get planted once it starts to rain.

Dang - that Jetta looks really familiar :-\ :laugh: Great work Dennis - fantastic to see another cool VASK project in the making. Please keep the Jetta face - maybe just with an eyebrow spoiler? The square lights are so much less common of a sight in NZ.
I hate eyebrow spoilers! I can't find new headlights, hence considering an alternative face.

It's the shape of the body that convinced me to do this up rather than the Golf. It's got a few bits of rust and a couple of dings, but no-respray required.

Does anyone know where to buy a rear spoiler? I've looked for a few nights and come up blank. I don't want to buy private from overseas, but a company is fine.
Vert and I talked about what I wanted to do, and as a result, he's going to get involved in transforming the Mk2 into a Mk3 hybrid. Essentially I should end up with a Mk2 Jetta shell wrapped around a Mk3. I'm grateful Vert has some time to help me with this.
I've called around looking for good door cards, and Brendon seems to be the only person with some that may suit? Black or grey are fine. I've found a grey carpet. I've asked Platinum to look for doorcards for me, and I'm guessing that if they get a Mk2 with good door cards in, I'll be able to grab the A,B & C pillar caps as well.
I'm also looking for a grey rear parcel tray, so any help there would be appreciated. I've condensed all this in the classified sections. By the way, the blue interior is in great shape if anyone wants to convert their car to blue ;). I won't need any Mk2 interior bits other than what I've described, so you could put together your own Smurf machine.

500/450 sounds like a pretty high spring rate for a road car to me.
I'm running 350 in the front with a big old heavy VR6 and it's fairly stiff on the road, still rolls a bit on the track.
Def too heavy. If you do the same as Robh, even then I think you will find them too stiff with quite a bit less weight over the front.

I'm running 350# with the Anglia and really like the ride, although it is probably not as intrusive as a result of the overall car not being very refined. I thought 300 sounded right, so thanks for confirming. Noel, how about that! Stiffer front than rear, just as you've set up; were you watching the US boys?
There is a more accurate way to get the spring rate.
You need to measure the length of your existing springs while the car is on it wheels, then take them out and give them to Stocks workshop, they will measure the spring rate of your existing springs and compare that with the free length versus the compressed length. They can then advise you how much weight they are supporting and what sort of spring rate would be suitable for your style of driving.

Dennis, if its going to be your daily driver, why dont you buy an off the shelf suspension kit. I dont see why you want to reinvent the wheel?

Both of those are off the shelf kits, but their site didn't specify spring rates, hence asking Bildon what they were.
Going out with my boys today to do a bit of bowling, then bring the car into the garage and strip out the interior. A few parts arrived (water pump and thermostat). I bought some used rims on TM and went to the shop to see them yesterday. They are extremely light - I'd guess 15 pounds for 16" rims! Qta and I are doing a spring swap so the Jetta will end up with a lower stance.
The more exciting bits are still in a warehouse somewhere. I've ordered a new sway bar which bolts to the rear section and another 'typical' rear sway bar can be added later to fine tune the suspension. Camber adjustment bolts for the front end, a short shift kit, lightweight flywheel and performance clutch round out the new parts.
The Mk3 seats have been stripped and are having a subtle center panel inserted. I'm still struggling with door cards though. I want them to tie into the new interior but don't want to pay to have the panels re-covered. Vert1 has organised all the new little maintenance parts and steam cleaned/degreased the ABF engine.
We're due to strip the mechanicals on Tuesday. Can't wait to get this thing started. Still looking for a rear spoiler and I'd also like some 16v door side trim.
i might have all my interior for sale soon.. i'll keep you posted.
And so...... another project begins. The car has been gutted to within an inch of its life, everything forward of the rear axle has been stripped and most of it binned.
Anglebox played with some nasty chemicals last night and the results are quite surprising, just a good clean in the engine bay and the underside of the bonnet has made things look a whole lot better.
I had already degreased and steamcleaned the MK3 subframe and powersteer rack so that all got bolted up yesterday. I had intended to use the MK3 front crossmember but to make this fit was going to be too much effort so instead I'll use the MK2 one and modify the engine mount area so we can install a nice MK3 VF uprated one.
Todays progress was quite good, got the shifterbox mounted, brake booster mounted, pedals mounted, ABS pump and ecu mounted and also custom made most of the brake lines to suit.
The pump has all its brake lines connected and just waiting for the susp to go in.
I'm not that happy with the way the pedals sit in the car as it seems the brake booster is mounted higher in a MK2 body so i'm going to lengthen them both to suit.

It is. Not certain I'll be as fortunate. Will need to see how the budget works out. So far, all projections are I have exactly $.43 left to spend.

Vert1 talked me into a full conversion. Airbags, ABS, full suspension, wiring loom, etc. Should be pretty nifty!

Lots of progress today with 2 of us working on the Jetta.
Started off this morning by cutting away the extra firewall bulkhead that MK2's have so that we can fit the MK3 heater/AC box.
None of the holes realy line up exept the large oval one where the heater core pipes come out through, we just made a cardboard template and transfered all the dimentions to the MK2 firewall and started cutting.
Also had to cut a hole for the AC drain since this car will now have AC too. Trial fitted the box a couple of times to get it sitting right and then realised that the air intake for the fan is in the wrong place on the MK2 body so another plate was fabbed up for that to correct the problem.

We ended up usin a MK3 throttle pedal as I didn't like the way the MK2 one runs up through the rain tray and then its quite a sharp bend for it to connect onto the ABF engine. Solution was to make a couple of brackets to position the MK3 pedal where I wanted it and weld in place.
It now uses a MK3 ABF throttle cable and exits through the firewall where a MK3 one would.

The heaterbox has a new core in it as I don't want to be pulling it all apart again when the old one starts leaking. So after fitting the throttle pedal and engine bay wiring the heaterbox was fitted again and is there to stay now.
While the heaterbox was out I also made a plate for the airbag module to sit on which was welded to the tunnel in the same place where it would sit in a MK3.
With the heaterbox in place the AC lines were run and re bent a little to suit the MK2 body. You'll also see the ABS unit in place along with the shifter cables etc.

All the wiring looks kinda messy now and doesn't realy come out in a picture but where everything is placed looks really factory.
The brake booster is ready to go back in as all the wiring is now in place and runs through the firewall behind the booster so it was a lot easier to take it out for this job.
Will have to lengthen the pedals as they are way too high off the floor, It seems that MK3 pedal boxes are mounted lower in the car and therefore have shorter pedal arms but again some mods will fix that.
All the brake lines were re-bent where possible for a factory look and clipped to the firewall to keep them straight and out of the way.
The rear lines were too short to plug into the ABS pump so I had to machine some double ended fittings to be able to lengthen them so they could reach the pump.
WOW :o Talk about a productive day! Looks like it will be wrapped up by Friday! Unfortunately some key parts from the States haven't arrived yet. I really wish sites would be more accurate when things are a) on backorder or b) need to be sourced from another warehouse >:(

At a risk of jinxing the project I won't say much more, Paul and I will try and get another day on it tomorow, plans are to strip the rear susp out and remove the drum brakes.
The MK3 fuel tank was modified a little today so hopefully that will bolt right in tomorow and I'll run another fuel line to the front as the Jetta was carbed and is a line short.

Sure, now that my springs are in your car you can afford to be liberal with the truth. Just put a bit of 20mm metal on the drive today. It'll be perfect - oil pan safe! (new shape below - no photo's by my better half of today's work)

Another good day on the car today with lots achieved.
The MK2 rain box is significantly smaller than a MK3 one so fitting the ABF's ECU wasn't going to be easy, there's no room to mount it lengthways in there so I had to make a couple of mounts for it to sit on in a left to right configuration.
The good thing is that it sits on the highest part of the box so well out of harms way and the MK2 rain tray still fits neatly where its supposed to be.

The Eibach springs arrived from QTA4 today so we were able to install them on the Sachs sportline shocks that are going in the car.
The rear drum brakes came off today and MK3 GTI discs went on, a small mod was needed on the rear beam to allow enough clearance for the rear ABS sensors to fit but thats all as the rest just bolts on.
It still needs some new hoses in the rear but other than that its pretty much complete in the rear.

The front also has Sachs shocks with Eibachs and these went together easily, we are using the 288mm brakes of a 16V GTI, new strutmounts installed to replace the knackered old stuff.
Once the rear bias valve is removed and new hoses are on the whole system can be bled completing the brakes.

Anyone run 195/45's on 7" wide rim? I'd like to know what the stretch is like. And I'm looking for some factor front fog lamps to fit a big bumper.
195s on a 7" rim is zero stretch. Even with 45s I think you'd be looking at a vertical sidewall at best. The tire type will determine whether the sidewall tucks in slightly at the top or not.
If you are sourcing some 195/45s I'd be in for a set if there's any advantage to getting a couple of sets at once :)

Not much happened today but I did cut a big hole in the back of the car, since we are using 60/40 split seats out of the MK3 Golf it would be a shame not to be able to carry large/long items in the boot because of the rear parcell shelf support so I just cut it out. New bracing was run from left to right and also braced down to the rear strut towers for added strength, probably way overkill but thats the way I like it. Next on the list will be to weld in the MK3 mounts for the rear seats so that they function like they are supposed to.

those shocks look nice- im guessing the sportline is a slightly uprated shock over standard? im looking for some shocks to match my eibachs in the mk2, that arent ridiculously expensive- how much were these? via qta4 huh?

They were on the parts car so a bit of a punt to see how they work with the lowered springs and for how long. QTA and I did a spring swap - win/win ;D

Those look like SportMax 501s, they'll be 15x8s I'd say with that lip. They only come in 2 offsets IIRC - 0 and +25 or something funky like that.

Been a HUGE day on the Jetta with leaps of progress, started off with the dash this morning. A quick trial fit told me that it was way too wide to ever fit in its stock size and some (A LOT OF) trimming was needed.
We peeled back the original dash material so we would only cut the foam and plastic meaning the vinyl can be wrapped and glued back over the dash later.
The dash needs to sit where I want it so that this will then tell me where the metal support is going to sit.
We made a template of the front window curvature and traced this onto the MK3 dash, a lot of cutting followed by 6-7 trail fits, each time cutting a bit more for the right look and fit. Bolted the dash through the firewall to hold it in place.

At this point the dash came out again. The metal support bar was narrowed by cutting the original mounts off and then bolted to the MK3 dash.
Re installed the dash with support in place, the dash has a metal plate that fastens to the tunnel so a bracket with captive bolts was fabbed and welded to the tunnel so that the factory MK3 dash support can be used.
This also allowed the metal support to be held enough that the dash skin could be removed again to better access the dash support structure.

Once the dash was out we could easily measure depth and height from side to side to make sure the support bar was sitting level and in the right place
With a couple more brackets made and tack welded we installed the dash again to check everything

Everything came out realy good so all brackets etc were fully welded and painted, the only thing I would change is to use a MK2 manual pedal box as it would make life MUCH more simple in that department. We didn't have one so the MK3 one got modified to suit, this does however allow us to use the MK3 tilt colum etc.
Much of the bracing was tied back to existing structure with brackets that were already there and just needed slight modification.
Last pic shows how the steering shaft came out through the firewall, neatly in the centre just needing a new boot.

The balance of the parts from the good ole US of A turned up today, the new lightened flywheel went on the engine with a new rear main seal while we were in there.
The new flywheel is close to half the weight of the old one and looks to be realy nice quality.

New pressure plate, sprung center disc and release bearing all fitted at the same time.
Gearbox back on and threw it back in the car, everything clears great so far and looks like it will work out good.
Still need to fabricate a new front mounting for the MK3 VF engine mount, with the block of wood there now the bonnet closes no worries and all the belts, AC pump have plenty of clearance.

Having some weight in the front its starting to give us a good idea where the car is going to sit, it will still come down some so should be just about perfect.

Standard, yes. It was just too much money to make it anything else. Perhaps in time a supercharger might find it's way it, but I think the ABF will go very well in a Mk2 as it is. Short shift kit, suspension, brakes and lightweight flywheel will have to do me for now!

the lighter flywheel kits make a huge difference, its gonna be real nice!
What driveshafts are being fitted? or is it a fabrication?
Stock MK3 GTI, the whole subframe, rack, uprights, axles, struts etc are 16V GTI.
Then that is what i need for my 20v project.

As John said earlier, he would have been able to crank this thing out faster if the parts had all been on the shop floor from day 1. I'm still waiting on some interior bits to show up.
Monumental amount of stuff got done on the Jetta friday and today.
The main thing was to get the engine and gearbox placed and bolted down, driveshafts installed.
The front crossmember had to be modified to accept a MK3 uprated mount. Once I was happy with where that was sitting the engine could be bolted in place for the last time.

We replaced the crank angle sensor while the whole front was off the car.
Next in line was the radiator and condenser, since we're using MK3 16V radiator I also used a MK3 condenser and fans. This meant that I had to cut most of the plastic MK3 slam panel away until I was left with the main part that holds the fans and shrouds the radiator. In the end the fans, radiator and condenser all became one unit bolted together to be fitted to the car.
With the radiator on a jack being held in a semi correct position we had a look how much modification the MK2 slam panel would need and with only minor clearancing it bolted on.
From there we made new mounts to hold the radiator in place and welded them to the MK2 slam panel, worked out great and fits a treat!
The MK3 power steering bottle looked like a better option than the manky looking MK2 one and with a simple bracket off the chassis rail it looks like its supposed to be there. Also the MK3 powersteer tube that runs along the front of the crossmember was re used and new brackets made to complete the powersteering.
The AC was another story, with realestate filling fast in the front of the car it was a bit of a challenge to fit this in but the hoses off the condenser pretty much left not much option on where it could go so even though a very tight fit its in there. I pitty the poor bugger if someone has to change it at some stage ;D

So here we are with the engine bay almost done, brakes bled, clutch bled, powersteering done, AC done.
Bumper and grille back on now, just have to wire the headlights and take care of a couple vacuum lines and the whole front end is complete, although now Dennis is creating more work for me with a shield for the pod filter and a gas stay for the bonnet.

Very nice! Though being my old Jetta naturally I'm biased! Those Mk3 wheels are really growing on me. I like Nik's call that they look a little like Minilites. Maybe just run some lower profile tires on them for a little extra in gear punch and slightly less balloon tire look? :)

I wonder how much more it'll weigh after it gets all the new fittings?
Will be a lot less than a MK3 GTI, no elec windows, side intrusion bars, lighter shell, lighter doors etc. I reckon about 150kgs less total weight.
I'll be running 16's on 40 series tires. We're just struggling with what the right solution is. I've purchased some rims but they are going to require some big spacers in order to look correct in the rear (45mm), and clear the calipers in the front (20mm). The Mk3 rims just don't do it for me, although there is the possibility they will be on the car for a bit, while I source some hub adapters/spacers and the cash to do it.
I'd also like to car to sit about 25mm lower than it is, but we're just not going to get there. The good news is, they won't stop making parts any time in the near future, so I can keep tweaking it until I get what I'm looking for.
I can't believe the front of the car is back together! It looks great. Only a few more steps to go now. Hennie is going to get stuck in next week and try to prep the car by installing a couple of stereo wires while it's apart. Lane down in Wellington is sending up some door cards, black carpet and black A&B pillar covers, and I'm supposed to be picking up the front seats and parcel tray from the upholsterer tomorrow. Will be great to be driving it to work in another 2 weeks!

I think the front clip must weigh less than a Mk3, as the front doesn't sit anywhere near dangerously low territory at the moment. The full interior still needs to go back in and a few bits of stereo equipment. Once that's in, I'll work with John to figure out what the right stance for the car is and go from there.
My order of priority is handling, braking, power. Until it's weighted and I have an idea of what the supsension is doing, no real decision can be made. From an appearance perspective, 25mm lower than where it is now would be great.

More progress today with the wiring loom going back in, these MK3 looms are a disaster compared to the MK4 loom. With all the insulation falling off you're left with a sticky horrible mess of wires.
None the less it all has to go back in a car that it wasn't designed for = lots of fun and expletives! :o
I installed the fuse box first and connected all the engine bay wiring to the fusebox followed by the ABS etc.
With most of it in the general location where its going to live a lot of the wiring was cable tied and cruitial areas wrapped in foam and cable tied.

With the fuse box complete the metal support bar could be fitted back into place for the last time hiding all the wiring behind it.
The fuse box seems to sit nicely on the MK3 support bar and so is able to be tilted downwards to get to the back of the fuse box.
Some playing around was needed with the air ducts for the dash, a bit of molding with a heat gun and sticking on some foam tape got it all sealing quite nicely.

When we cut the front edge off the dash we first peeled back the vinyl top covering and just cut the foam and the plastic dash backing so today I sprayed contact adhesive on the dash where the material had been peeled away and with the help of a heat gun stuck the vinyl back down wrapping the material
over the front edge of the dash.
This means that the vinyl shouldn't warp or start to peel off in hot weather.

Final job for the day was to fit the dash back in, line up the air vents with the heaterbox and screw it in.
Have begun fitting some of the dash plastics and should be able to wrap this up tomorow.
I hate all that brittle spongy stuff that surrounds a some of thw wiring and i think that white air
conditioning vent... It's so annoying :laugh:
Finished installing the dash and all related parts, left the bottom off the dash for the stereo wiring to be run on tuesday.
All the wiring is 99% complete and tested, the MK2 loom was cut behind the back seat so to leave all the wiring to the lights etc in place. We just cross referenced the colours between MK2 & MK3 diagrams to join them up again. Most of the colours are the same for generic things like lights etc but its better to make sure anyway.
Just have to splice the MK2 interior light in along with the central lock pump.
The reverse switch decided it didn't want to work anymore so that was pulled apart to find dirty contacts were the culprit.

Will start fabricating the exhaust from scratch on Tuesday, Dennis got a nice ABT rear box for it so we'll see how that looks on it. The tips are a bit far apart for my liking so I'll probably change that.

Yeah those wheels have realy turned out to look pretty good. Still the wheels that Dennis has (Volk 5 spoke) also look cool, not sure about the white but that will get sorted out in due time.

I just don't see the attraction to those rims. To be fair, I'm not into the rims I bought either. White is just not my thing. Oh well, powder coating will come in time.
Personally I like them as they are a simple, clean factory rim, IMO with the big bumpers they kinda make the car look like some sort of face lift

Completely finished the rear seats today so now we have 60/40 split rear seats from a MK3 installed, all the mounts came from a MK3 with the exeption of the top catches which I made. Works better than I could have hoped for realy, once the stereo wiring is run the interior can go back in.
Also had the displeasure of fitting the short shift kit, what a POS!
Beautifully made by B&M shifters but complete crap to install, the main shift rod was in 3 pieces however the instructions showed it in one piece :-\ so that meant I first had to line the 3 pieces up and weld them together :-[ ( no mention of this in the destructions by the way)
Other parts of it didn't fit either which meant more modifications, its in there now but unsure If I like the feel of it and cant say that its all that much shorter shifting.
Dissapointing to say the least, when I look at the shifter there's a way to make it shorter shifting by making 1 part only, 10x easier and have done this before on my old Corrado.

This has a cable shifter installed so it will be different to yours I think.
In stalled the rear swaybar yesterday which was interesting, drilling through the rear beam was no easy task as the metal is quite thick and tough. The swaybar sits inside the rear beam and is bolted through it to stop the beam twisting so much. First one I've seen like this but then I haven't had much to do with MK2's.
The exhaust got made from scratch today which was 3/4 of the day gone but the results are awesome.
Exhaust tips sit just how I like them, hopefully Dennis is ok with it.
Quite a bit of time went into sitting the exhaust in the center of the cutout, the tailpipes had to be lengthened quite a bit as the muffler came off a Golf.

Once the exhaust was done it meant the car could be started, so with some fuel in the tank the pump primed it fired into life without hesitation.
I left it idling outside to open the thermostat and purge the air out of the powersteering, once that was all ok and water topped off I took it for a thrash 8)- I mean drive down the road.
First impressions are that it goes pretty well, easy to tell that there's less weight there.
However upon getting back to the shop it cut out, would restart ok but then stop again. Have traced this to a faulty (brand new) crank sensor which will have to be replaced.
At the same time I realised that there's no fuel filter fitted, I have no idea how I missed that but anyway its no big deal to fit one.

Nigel - What rear springs are you running in the Jetta and were they Jetta specific? The rear on this hot-rod sag at the moment, while the front is a bit 'up in the air'. There's probably a 70mil difference in ride height.

Not crap at all!! As John said, they were sitting high in the front, but without any driving around, they still had some amount of settling to do. The rear has consistently sit lower, which John has come up with a solution for earlier. We also weren't sure if the Jetta boot and full gas tank would make things worse, or if a fully weighted car and a bit of a drive around, would find the set-up leveling out. Just feeling out my options at this point; I like Eibach, so don't want to change them out.
No panic yet except over interior door cards!

Not much progress here, fixed a coolant leak and changed out that bung crank sensor other than that we're waiting.............for parts................. ::) :D
I'm looking forward to seeing it go again. Just a few more things to arrive and we'll be away laughing. With a newer car, you could just walk into a shop and grab all the bits you want. Unfortunately, building the Jetta has required parts from all over NZ and the US. I can't wait to see the finished product.
Going to be an awesome car, had a look at it a couple of days ago and was impressed. Should go like a rocket with the ABF 2.0 16v. Another quality project .

john if you want to keep the induction looking oem and sounding good,drill about 100 litle holes on the front and right side of the airbox.looks totaly factory but barks real good.mine pops in real nice at about 4000rpm

Things are coming along nicely. Still waiting on parts (mainly as a result of my inability to have foresight or complete orders in a timely fashion) to arrive, but I think everything has arrived that's needed to get the car functioning 100%. Still need to get the interior trim on the door cards done, but I've found some 5 1/2" door card speaker mounts, so at least a speaker can be installed up front.
John is going to coordinate the dents & dings guy to come out and do a quick tidy up, and have his up-holsterer pull the seat apart so he can lower the drivers seat for me. I'm picking she'll be ready next Thursday (my better half is in Oz next week, so that would be a great surprise - Surprise, you can't park in the garage again!!) John would be long done if all the fiddly bits were sitting in a pile when he started.
Heard it running yesterday, very nice sound. I may get a bit of pressure to tone it down a bit (so I don't wake the kids leaving in the morning) but we'll see.
Either that or practice your running push starts. ::)
Maybe the right thing to do, is floor it the first time out of the garage and light the tires up. From then on, I'll be practicing my 'quiet' exit in the morning?

Driving it as of today!
The wiring is 100% complete inc the interior light, central locking & remote lock unit.
Drilled a nice big fat hole in the roof for the bee sting, installed the rear parcel shelf, rear seats etc.
The new door handles are on, slightly modified the rear ones to work on the front doors for that de-locked look.
I didn't like the drivers seat being so high in the front so the newly made cover got pulled off today for some surgery to the frame, much better and lower now.
Also installed a fuel filter that I had overlooked before. Just waiting on the wheel adaptors to arrive and also carpet & interior trim to complete it.
Coming to think of it..........I feel like a drive now!!

The exhaust is well loud enough to wake the kids, get stuck into it and its induction noise central.
In all seriousness its pretty damn good considering there's no interior to speak of.

Yes I am. The green GTI is gone, and I'm racing everywhere these days. The Jetta is pretty well sorted on the inside. It sounds like I need external sound-proofing!
As mentioned earlier the wheel adaptors have come, 22mm in front and 45mm in the rear. The guy did a great job, all hubcentric machined bolt on adaptors with studs pressed in from behind.
I just machined a few mm off here and there to get the rims sitting just where Anglebox wanted them.
This did mean however that the rear arch trim was virtually sitting ON the tyre!! >:D,
So today some major surgery took place on the arch trims and fender wells, nothing that a BIG hammer doesn't fix.
I was going to try the ole baseball bat trick but decided against that ;)
Front and rear have been clearanced substantially.
Couple of little other bits and pieces also got finished.
My paintless dent guy came over and took about 15 dings out of the body which has tidied it up very nicely.

The cards will match the interior and they'll be ready in 2 - 3 weeks. I've got some interim cards coming, which is good. The wheels will stay white until more cash arrives or I stop noticing their white, whichever comes first. Ideally they would be powdercoated a grey of some sort.
The exterior details will be on hold for a fair bit of time. Whatever can't be done by sweat or graft will sit in the too hard basket for while.
Luckily John and I see things pretty much the same when it comes to cars. We both think the details need to be right, and the whole reason this is a project and not a Mk3 GTI is that I was confident John could pull of a job in a way that aligned with the way I would do it myself. All you have to do is line up the Anglia and the Jetta and the detail work is the same, only one's done by me, and the other John. Also, machining hub adapters down by 2.5mm isn't something I would tackle in my own yard, much less a few other details.
I needed to be able to trust that I could leave $1,000's of dollars of parts and bits in someone's hands, and I was going to get exactly what I wanted back. It's worked and I'm stoked! Besides, my marriage wouldn't support another car being torn apart in my garage. My wife has been fantastically supportive of my car habit, so I needed to take care of her on this one.
John will be taking her down to Noels this weekend possibly ???, to be her shakedown run, before I put my hands on her next week. Thanks for all the comments and support by almost everyone here. It's been cool to watch a project go together, without having the stress of it on me. And if it's too loud I can just shake my head and say "#*%#ing John!" ;D :D ;)

Requirement was to have AC so the full Mk3 system is there, just have to get it gassed.

The full Mk3 kit went into it. ABS, A/C, Airbags, Pre-tensioners, everything. For those of you wondering about cost, it has cost less than a clean Mk3 GTI, plus all the aftermarket bits.

I reckon its hot as well. Very cool project, volks suit the car but. A little but undecided about the white on silver, but cant really think what color I would paint the volks as a change so I think its a look that will grow on you I think. Nice work guys.
I'm not digging the white at all, but will have a go at removing the stickers, and then when tires wear out ( I doubt I'll be able to get to it sooner) I'll look at a matte/low sheen grey of some sort to powder coat them to. They work with the little lip, but John might say the little lip was a huge PITA! ;D

Sounds perfect. The next step with the wheels (John's idea) is to machine a ring that can be pressed into the center hole that will accept a VW center cap. I was thinking of machining the entire cap, but John reckon'd the seperate 'adapter ring' would work best. Watch this space.

There's a 2 finger gap from the top of the tire to the outside edge of the guard. The poke is significant, which is the main rubbing issue. If I'd gone with a narrower profile tire, some of that would have gone away, but John has spent more than a little time on it.

Since the car is sitting idle for a bit while I wait on interior bits to make their way up country, we decided to pull the intake manifold and cam cover in order to replace the cam timing chain. As an aside, the ugly ass cam cover and intake manifold will get powder coated black ;D!! I'm of two minds about it at the moment (since it's not free), but it will certainly clean up the engine bay, and justify the 20 odd dollars spent on a new coolant reservoir.
Hopefully, the carpet and plastic will show up by Thursday when I drop back off the powder coated bits, and John's got enough time to wrap it up so I can swing by on Saturday. Getting close now.

Typical >:( Dropped off the bits tonight and my mate let me know he's been down a man for the week, so can't the intake and valve cover back to me until Thursday. On the upside, he's going to powder-coat it in black and do the details in silver. 98.8% there and a few frustrations to go. Saw the car today, and she looks great. I think I'm going to have to eat my words Noel. The thing sits LOW. Even though John has raised the rear, the rear wheel sits inside the fender :o.
Beautiful job on the alignment. The front looks mint. Now to find some wheel centercaps.

Yeah, it's just that we had the Mk2 bases and no work was required. John has modified the base to suit, but it's a bit of a bummer as we started out with all the right bits. I'll pick up the valve cover & manifold today. Should look awesome!

Unfortunately, pretty parts don't add horsepower or fuel efficiency. I had to control myself not to pick up the cam's and have them re-ground as well. I would have just picked up the spec's off the net, and Franklin Cams would have had them done in a day. Unfortunately, not free, so I kept away. I'm still thinking about it though. Hopefully John will be by shortly to talk me down.

Don't know if there is a premium to grind a VW cam (using your 'donor' cam) but if it's the same as a Ford cam you'd be looking at $100 - $120 a cam. That's why I'm so tempted. You just need to provide Adrian with the spec's you're looking for. He can grind them (I talked him about an 8v cam earlier). Great guy, did a sweet job on the Anglia cam.
Don't know the story behind the re-sale on the GTI. Guy paid cash, no test drive, never came by to pick up the parts that went with the sale, didn't call, and a week or two later, had it on Trademe.

Noel might be able to provide some insight, but when you grind a cam, you profile the cam potentially differently than if you were to use a billet cam. Some believe this compromises the performance. Adrian does work internationally, and when given the choice between re-grinding my cam, and charging me for a billet, he said the re-grind would be sweet.
Pleased you didn't do the cam grind Dennis, if you require a CAM,reprofile, then get a cam from new profile.

The final pieces have arrived so the whole interior went back in today, never had so much hassle with carpet before- fighting every step of the way.
Suppose its the extra sound deadening on the floor and different dash, pedals etc that have a lot to do with it.
Quite a few of the trim clips were broken or missing so some improvising was called for, all the interior trim is black now so it all matches nicely.
The MK3 center console also fits like a glove along with the handbrake console, it just needs a damn good clean now Dennis! 8)

Seats are also in now, just have to trim the A pillar parts around the dash, install the intake on the engine and a couple of little things to finish.
The new doorcards are also going to be ready friday so they won't take long to install, then Angle can have it back.

They're the original Jetta cards which are being re-upholstered to match the interior. I do have a set of clean cards for a Mk2 - Black vinyl on top w/ grey cloth.

Motor is back together and running again. Much improved with a new timing chain, also did the dizzy seal, new rocker cover gasket and camshaft seal.
The old chain had obviously streched quite a bit allowing timing movement between the cams, the idle is much better and also sounds a lot quieter.
Dennis's newly powdercoated intake and rocker cover tidy the engine up nicely.

Ask Brendon. I think he's got one in his shed - from memory they do fit, but it's been awhile since I read the threads in Vortex.
Kr Intake has injectors in it =Kjet. ABF has a rail and Elec inj.
are there any differences in the inlet manifold gasket? that is the question...
the angle they bolt to the head is different.

This will be the same - it's an Ibiza Cupra with an ADL engine (basically an EFi version of the 1.8l 16v) which shares quite a few external bits with the ABF including the intake manifold and fuel rail etc. Kinda like the PL is to the 9A.
Thanks for the pics. Went to see Ross at Autosport Upholstery today and picked up my 'new' door cards. They look absolutely amazing :o :o!
He also rebuilt my integrated shift lever cover / shift boot. Again, looks fantastic. I was worried about him being able to do it as the shift boot covers the knob and so goes from a large 'skirt' to a small waist around the bottom of the shift knob, and then goes up and over the large upper portion of the knob and then gets smashed under the 5 speed cap. It came out perfect and the door cards look factory and they match with the interior.
I'm over the moon about the whole thing. Fingers crossed we manage to get it all on tomorrow and the interior gets cleaned up enough for a couple of good photos. ;D
Thanks for the tip on this chap. I dropped my kamai seats off to him this week.

Will do. Took it for a spin today. First impressions are the car is very tight, light on it's feet, with an extremely light clutch and very rev friendly engine.
We spent some time working on the door membrane and fitting door cards. The new cards look absolutely fantastic. I was really concerned as to whether or not they were worth the effort and they certainly are. I'm really stoked and having the interior coordinated has really 'finished' the car. Camera battery was dead, so no pictures >:(

Drove her home last night! Can't wait to drive when it's not raining, as it seems to have an amazing amount of grip and a flat chassis. Perhaps that widened track has made a big difference. Unfortunately the muffler is too loud (it sounds great over 4000rpm) but not my thing at 3000. Aside from that, I'm over the moon, and off for a drive in a few minutes. A few hours cleaning and detailing is ahead of me, along with a few bits and bobs to finish off (stereo, trunk sound deadening, wheel caps, etc.). Great job John! 8)

It's been brilliant. Unbelievably well composed on the road. Those springs have worked a treat Noel ;). I've gotten more accustomed to the clutch feel (which is very lightweight and excellent for traffic), and the only niggle at the moment is that it loves to hold the revs, which I'm assumming is due to a L/W flywheel with an ECU map that keeps the RPM up longer?
I still can't believe how well the package has gone together. Nothing looks out of place on the car and it's modern with a retro feel. Really digging it. Should spend a bit more time behind the wheel tomorrow.

Absolutely; along with seatbelt pre-tensioners (and seatbelts from the MkIII), so the entire 'system' is transferred over. Shock sensor is mounted in the same location as well.
Did you have to certify the bags?

The smoked bits might be a good idea. The plan is to paint the front and back VW black, just haven't gotten around to it yet.

I'm sorry, but thats a terrible photo of that Golf. The background is messy, blown out and distracts from the car. Never shoot a car in bright sunlight, overcast days with nice even light is much much better.
Brendon is right tho using filters is a pro thing but it does make for nice looking pics if you use the right one.

Go and have a play. Find a nice background, light or lack of it coming from the right direction and you should get a good result.

I don't understand what zoom I should be using (it auto focuses regardless of how zoomed in or out the lens is) when taking photo's in order to crop the picture correctly.

It doesn't come into it's own until after 4500 RPM. In saying that, for daily driving the torque is perfect, but it could use some more grunt. It's been a great fit to the car, as it's kept the handling balance.

Both of them worked at CCS in the VAG department, Simon now works at Giltraps, Neil works at the Italian side of things for CCS now.

I understand that is is a requirement to have self leveling HID lights, certainly every car that is factory fitted with HID has them.

you cant get bi xenon kits as far as im aware..
Bi Xenon involves a rotating Lens inside the headlights housing to allow the xenon beam to be refocused to act as high beam when in prolonged highbeam mode.
but still allow the halogen high beams to flash during only breif high beem activation ie (flashing somone)

just get one with the fitting (ie a H4 or H7 or a H1 base)
ie with the bases that plug straight in to the back of your existing lamp

True Bi Xenon is a Rotating Lense inside the Lowbeam Lamp itself!
HOWEVER you can put XENON BULBS AND BALASTS in the HIGH BEAM LAMPS if you really want.. but there isnt any gaurantee that the Xenons will like breif bursts of on and off.. that and XENONS Start off as a different colour and then when they warm up they go white-er
but really you should look at getting Projector Lense type Headlight Housings as they focus the beam alot more effectivly then say at patterned lense

Self leveling isn't required. It's intended to simply level the light based on vehicle load or road inclination. A must for new vehicles (per legislation) but nothing I need.
The lamp needs to be Bi-xenon, so that you have a high and low beam HID light. This requires 4 ballasts, and the lighting will function the same as standard, with greater light output levels. Most HID kits are low beam only, and hi-beam are halogen. Since I want them for driving, not posing, having a low beam HID is of nominal benefit.
I'm not sure where you're getting rotating lens and shaded bulbs from? The shaded bulbs are designed to work with specific reflectors, and are not recommended for upgrades. As to the rotating lens, I haven't come across that yet with the exception of intelligent lighting where either the headlight is motorised or their is a secondary lamp that illuminates against a lens which angles the light beam to suit the direction of travel.
Are you suggesting that OEM HID lighting has a motorised lens which re-aims the light output, and utilises the same intensity lighting for both dip and hi-beam?

The MKVs and all the BMWs that all run Bi Xenon ALL have
1 x Xenon Prjector Lamp (That has a electronically controlled light direction lense within the projector housing)
and
1 x Reflector with a Halogen Bulb for "Flash High Beam"
When you click them on the "High Beam Output" (ie NOT quick bursts of Flashing)
A Sheild inside the housing of the Headlight itself Rotates and spreads the Light Upwards "Turning Night into Day"
You Could Run Four Xenon Bulbs but In my honest opinion i think its a Waste of Dosh!
Then again this is only what I have read up on, as my Mothers Car has Bi Xenon and I wanted to know how it worked and if i could put it in My R32 but flagged that idea when i found out it actually required Motorised Things within the projector lense housing itself!
The Best person to Actually talk to here is "lunar7" he designs/engineers lighting systems for Hella and knows ALOT about Xenons etc
Weather or not you can actually get the Xenon Bulbs that move or not or have two (Filaments(elements)) like the old H7 Halogen Bulbs used on MKIIs etc I am not personally sure

4300k is the best kit to have, the higher the K number doesnt mean they are brighter its just the difference of colour 12,000k is purple light which is wank and stupid!
Apparently 4300k Is the Whitest Light Available and offers the Most Light out of any of the other kits!
5000k is a little Bluer for that "real jdm xenon look" but in essence it provides less light than the 4300k

From my understanding most HID kits are for the low/dip beam only and the high beam is Halogen. This kit which I linked previously, utilises 1 lamp per side and provides hi-beam and low-beam lighting.

Neil and I were looking at getting HIDs for our Corrados last year. We did get to the point where we were about to order when he sold his car. If you ever met Neil you'll know the research was rather thorough. I lost interest after getting new reflectors for my headlights and installed a relay which produced enough of a difference so that I was no longer outdriving my headlights (9 and a bit volts at the bulb to over 13!). The self-levelling side of the equation was possible by retro-fitting a setup from another VAG donor but expensive if bought as a new kit, but is fairly important to avoid blinding oncoming traffic as you go over imperfections in the road surface.
I've just lost a detailed post on this (bloody internet cafe!) which I can't be bothered redoing right now, but PM me if you are interested in what we dug out. The H4 kits were going to be between $60 and $120 USD plus shipping depending upon the style and quality. If you are interested PM me and I'll see what I can dig up.

As for the emmissions standards they are doing at the moment. it is all about visible emmissions(smoke) any thing else would be really interesting

As far as the lights go, there are bulbs available that don't have motorised hi/lo beam reflectors and still give you the hi/lo functionality - they simply have two bulbs on the one base to replicate the two filaments on the H4 bulbs you already have. You can have two Xenon bulbs (ie: Bi-Xenon) or one Xenon, one normal halogen bulb (hi beam). It's a bit difficult to explain without pictures, but they should be more reliable than a motorised bulb. Certainly they are cheaper.

From what I understand you significantly impact life span of the xenon lamp by igniting it repeatedly without allowing a reasonable burn time. Hence the desire to have either a) the bulb change it's position relative to the reflector or b) the reflector adapt to suit the desired beam.

They have a portable meter and an attached probe they place up the exhaust pipe. Then they drive the car around and take active readings. From there, the car is passed or failed! It's moved beyond visible emissions.
The Xenons in my Jetta stay lit when you switch on the high beam. At least thats the way they were wired from factory.
They all stay on on high beam John, because of the inability to turn on and off rapidly.

Yeah, the Xenon stays lit when your halogen comes on. I wouldn't mind seeing how they work in the dark. I overdrive my lights pretty quickly in their current set-up.

Much quieter with just induction noise which is just fantastic ;D. My list of little things is down to 4 or 5 now. One of them is to get the door card speaker grilles! I haven't put them on order yet, but as soon as their in, Hennie can jump on the stereo?

Dim and waiting for an upgrade!! I wasn't able to find a kit that satisfied me, so will start off with a relay & 100W bulb and find out how that goes. Word of warning on the 100W bulbs - if your reflectors are plastic Dennis, don't go there. This is what 100W bulbs did to mine once I relayed them:
Some of the new H4 bulbs are quite good and it might be worth trying them first.
Ouch! Thanks for the heads up. Will take your advice and do a bulb swap first. What did you end up doing?
I ended up just using relays, Phillips +50% standard wattage bulbs and new reflectors. They are quite effective.
Sourcing reflectors was a long saga as you can no longer individually buy the Corrado ones through the VAG network. I ended up getting a pair of LHD ones that I had to modify to work with the RHD fresnel in the lense, thankfully the internal wiring harness is damn near the same as the Passat one so they came from Pick-a-part.
The 100W bulbs had been in for so long that I had forgotten they were in there. The increase in output (3.5 volts at the bulb give or take) when the relays were installed was incredible, at least for a short while as the chrome melted off the reflector.
You can get the old reflectors re-coated by a crowd in Waihi who coat plastic casket fittings, but of course that was discovered after the LHD parts had arrived. ::)

The relay should help increase the output of a new H4 bulb as well I believe. Crazy ... melted the chroming off. How'd you find out? Smoke or visual inspection?
I spotted it through discolouration that slowly appeared through the glass. Certainly was a wake-up call. I hadn't driven it much at night either so the extra heat generated must have been substantial!

It's just the same style as that, all in silver. It's off a jap import Jetta GLI which is just a medium trim level (nothing like a sporty US GLI)

Yeh, 60-90 mins depending on what finish you want. Im currently doing a set. It sucks

Yup, been there done that. More so with cleaning/polishing wheels, the first one looks awesome and you think WOW that took a long time.
So then its down hill from there with the last one looking very average.
HaNs take all the wheels to the blasters - if the cant do kernels or something else soft in Taupo go to Kiwi Metal polishers in Rotorua who do. Leaves a nice smooth finish without the risk of pitting like sand can give. Cheap too.

Well they are stripped. No clear coat left on them. So ill just keep sanding with 1000 grit. Im getting there, 1/3 of the way there. Doesnt take long when you rope in other people to help.
Need to go see the powder coaters this morning and see what finish the alloy needs to be.
Im going to do a polished lip i think.
Just got back from the powder coaters and its around $50 a rim(14") to paint the whole rim black. They will run over them with sand and pre bake them to get the crap out of the alloy. They cant leave the lip alloy without risking it looking crap.
May have a go at DIY paining one of them today as its such a nice day.

Grinder and sanding disc, 1000 grit by hand as you would never get a machine in the tight spaces of the cookie cutters
Hope to finish my first 'test rim' tonight. Big thanks to Brendon who PM'd a little tutorial on how to. I put 2 coats of etch primer (lacquer) and 4 or 5 coats of colour and I've just finished my first coat of clear. It looks like the paint will come out with a satin finish as I haven't polished the lacquer? If this is the case I'm stoked!

Came out gloss. I think the colour is too dark and I didn't mask a small section next to the valve correctly, so there is a white spot there. Overall impressions are good. I'd say its going to cost about $14 a wheel to paint them once you figure in paint, thinners, sand paper and masking materials and my time at $0 / hr.
Tonight I'll work on touching that spot up. I'll paint a pair of wheels before I decide if the colour is too dark. I can always add more?
If they are dark then get a lighter shade and you'll get a nice metal effect from the dark base.
Let them lay in the sun and bake. don't spray in the sun tho.
Don't switch brands of paint in case it reacts.
I'm going to use the same brand and go a lighter colour. It can go straight over the clear with a light sand and Prepsol wipedown? Here's a shot of the wheel.

Yessir. I took it off to bash the fender out a bit more. It should go back on this weekend.

By the way the wheels are better, much better but I do think a lighter shade would be nicer again.
I'm going to attack the paint on the car to try and get it in better nick before my spoiler comes back from the painters. My plan was pretty simple. Using rubbing compound then wax. Any general recommendations when working by hand?

Only use a very mild cutter with plenty of water to keep it wet, once dry you run the risk of burning the paint.
i bort apolisher from super cheap 4 about $80 at did a grate job. i used re-po paint docktor and then re-po carnuba wax. i did the wax by hand

Just with a sqirty bottle Dennis. All you are doing is to stop the polisher burning the paint, its much easier and better results with a machine. Also watch your polisher speed, if you buy one make sure it can spin slow enough (eg variable speed)

I painted the front and rear VW badges today and did a bit of rust touch up on the hood. Not much else though; no wheels done, no polishing.
Can someone please post-up a quick how to on front bumper removal (big bumper type)? I bumped into a car a few weeks back and need to straighten out the bumper supports.
you need to undo the four bolts up under the front rails. two each side 17mm
Jack it up first. then the plastic skin just unclips off the steel support.
DON'T undo the outer 15mm one as the front X member will fall on you.

doing this job on my my mk2 came close to reminding me of moments in my mk1 where i nearly went crazy and threw my toys!
If you have a dolly to lay on and a small torch it's easy.
You line the rear bolt up and get it finger tight
then same on other side then the other two just line up factory.
Don't tighten any until they are all in Doctor.
Sometimes pays to wear some safety glasses as all the road grime can start to fall in your eyes

We weren't talking about the same bolts. Very easy to get to. Thanks for pointing out which ones. ;)
Took the front bumper off, removed the plastic and re-installed the bumper frame. I then took (that doesn't look like a real word ??? ) some centerline measurements, gave it a fair wack with the hammer and came within about 3 mm and it wouldn't go over any further. It was also out of alignment front to back on the left side (the side I didn't use) so took it off, and the bumper had been in a previous collision that buckled the support >:( . Now I've got to source another driver side bumper hanger.
While I had the car up on the jacks I took the wheels off and painted them on one side. They came out sweet, except for the one that fell over while I was drying it >:( . Also found out some good and bad news. The front wheels don't rub, which I thought they did. The bad news is the sound I hear under hard cornering is the body rubbing .... on the asphalt!! Rear wheel arch went back on as well.

Front air dam. i thought it was the front wheel rubbing the inner fender but after studying the front air dam and the fenders, it's the dam that's taking the abuse. Perhaps it's not too low, just to low for the spring rate?

It does depend on the bump. I can manage the driveway thing, but 90 kph + corners in my neck of the woods have it getting rubbed hard.

i would say just go the whole hog and control everything... otherwise just chip the ABF...
Dennis- I borrowed and article off Jem from AMD UK, they claim 25hp increase with their chip for the ABF.

Can it be used as a piggy back fuel management system, allowing the ECU to continue controlling other functions (like ABS)?
why not get the MS to control the ABS? your best bet is www.msefi.com
Don't want to abandon the stock ECU. Off to investigate more options.

What are the mats costing you Dennis?
The mats sound like good value to me - $120 w/ VW logo on front mats. Rear trunk mat is a bit more and is made of a heavier grade carpet with an integral back that is then attached to 6lb underlay.
More weight to slow you down, add the dynamat and oh boy- turbo needed ;D

They look very smart Dennis, you wil have to have very clean shoes to ride in your car from now on.. ;D
Boot carpet came out ok - makes the rest of the trunk look bad. Will continue to play around with the boot underlay. I blanketed below the spare tire and it has raised the spare tire the same amount I raised the floor so I'll get some more underlay at a later time. I purchased a square of dynomat and put a few pieces on the underside of the trunk and along the rear of the trunk bay to see if it helps with the sound. Looking forward to my quieter drive in tomorrow! Floor mats look good and VW logo is spot on, which I wasn't convinced of before I installed them.
The car passed!! I drove the family up to Pakeri (not sure about the spelling) today and she was so quiet we could have a calm conversation in a low voice. I also installed some new headlight lamps which work brilliantly and installed some dynomat under the hood and then applied a hood mat to the underside. Will take some pics tomorrow.
Now to strip the door cards, dynomat the larger areas of the doors and my soundproofing will be over. Anyone have a mint (read no dents, dings, rust or scale) Mk 2 hood, jetta trunk, 4 doors and front wings? I'm going to re-paint the Jetta a dark grey, but want to get the parts together first. Won't be for some time, so I thought I might put the word out anyways.
Spent some time over the last few days doing a few bits and bobs on the car. Replaced the stock tranny mount with a VF Engineering mount to match my VF front mount. Has done for the Jetta what the VF dogbone mount does for the MkIV's - provided a more direct shift feel and reduced engine movement. I'm tickled pink. Noel, perhaps something you should think about for the Mk1?

Congrats, So will the rabbit be back in the works? Be good to see that out and about.
Will head down to the body shop next week and see where I can get to about getting a delivery date sorted out. Will trailer the car back to the shed, pull the motor and send her back for final paint and colour. Still no rush, but should get the car finished by the close of the year, or at least re-assembled.

yes got a omp front strut brace but i have to move the mk3 gti brake booster to make it fit and dont really want to move it. but if anybody wants it its for sale for $100.

yea if i put it on i wont be able to access the filler cap i would have to unbolt the strut brace to get to it :(

just finished the first strut brace i machined it out of plastic as it was fast and cheap. the real strut bars will be out of alloy. with VW logos machined in. they will be VERY VERY stiff and light 8). the more of you that want them the cheaper they will be. If i make 5 they will be under $100 each as a sheet of 5mm alloy cost $500. if you want can also powder coat for a thew extra $.

sweet as all i need is to cheek out the dimesions of that car. it will be a little more expensive (not much more) then the mk2 one just because its going to take a little bit of time to do the drawings on autocad.
the price for the strut bars will be $150 for mk2s & $180 for all other makes just because i will have to spend time working out the dimensions. all bars have VW MOTORSPORTS logos machined into them. Please let me know who wants 1 or 2 so i can order the alloy. just remember braces like these would cost over $300 eanywhere else and there NZ made :D

it does make a huge difference to mk2s not so much to mk3s up. but you defiantly feel the difference driving into driveways and over bumpy roads.
just made up some top strut covers makes the strut bar look cool 8)

Hmmm Well ill be darned then. Its just the way that one looks, it looks like it would flex before it would do much stiffening but I belive the before and after story ;)

Just like ball joint spacers do eh Noel, not as good as extenders for sure but they do make a difference. The arm swings over a differnt area and it stops the wheel being pulled inwards so much. :)
they are very stiff. i also have a omp (made in italy) front strut and that flexes a crap load more. i use a special engineering program that shows all the week points and puts the bar under huge pressure so i could design it well to do a good job. :)
didint like the vw caps eanymore so made some gti ones 8)

If anyone is interested, this car is now for sale in Northland.
Unfortunately it is a little rough around the edges cosmetically, but is still running well mechanically.
I have recently replaced the coilpack, plastic coolant flange, battery and 2 front tyres. It has also had new front pads 4 months ago and geometry adjustment at the same time as the front tyres.
WoF and rego to May 2017
Car will be listed on TradeMe shortly, but please PM for any info, I would prefer it to go to an enthusiast who will look after it properly!

Jacking point covers are missing as said above.
Bumpers/exterior trims are a bit loose, I imagine they need new clips or some plastic welding, or both

I'm only selling due to going back to England in 7 weeks, otherwise it's done me well since I've owned it and I'd take it with me if it'd fit in my suitcase!
In the right hands it'd be an awesome little car again. Served me well as a daily driver. I've put 17000km on it after it'd been sat for a few months with the previous owner and only had a few niggles with it like the battery and coilpack.

This car is pretty cool, though I don't know the condition of it now. Nice that it has airbags and Mk3 GTI Recaros.
Whats the Golf Oettinger? My guess is its a base model jap import with a Oettinger badge and maybe some wheels.
