Installed a RCD330+ head unit in my Scirocco today and really happy with it.
Worked immediately after connection and with a little coding got it to show ParkPilot (with the Scirocco car graphic) instead of reversing camera (as I don't have one installed) and changed over the steering wheel buttons so the mic button triggered Siri rather than just muting the audio.
Here's a few images from my fitting (gallery with more here, https://imgur.com/a/BEhDX), don't mind the United Car Care air freshener hanging about!

Finished product with my newly fitted MK6 MFSW buttons in the background, everything matches stock with the exception of the chrome silver trim where the rest of the car is brushed silver

Pretty happy to have gone from the average RCD510 with no bluetooth or phone preparation, to MFSW buttons and full CarPlay in a couple of weeks, and without enormous fitting expenses!
Happy to answer questions about coding if anyone has some. Interestingly after fitting the head unit I got some errors related to the MDI interface in the arm rest which required me to disable it in the gateway's 'Installation List' to resolve, as well as one for the missing reverse camera module.
Looks good.
Which hardware version is it? It?s under the set up menu. Haradware, software, Bluetooth version etc.
Looks good!
What did you use for coding the graphic and steering wheel controls?

Picked up a Rosstech cable and VCDS shortly after getting the car. Very handy indeed.

Hi Red,
Is this what you're looking for?
Part No: 6RD 035 187 B
HW: 036 SW: 0317
Bluetooth: c250
Apple CarPlay: CPL24.V1.4.3@C1
Thanks bro, my friend Tom got one of these but when he uses Park Pilot, he gets an amarok to display!

Yeah, that's it. You've got the same version as me then. Alas it's not the version with a new firmware upgrade available for it. New firmware changes the background yellow stripes to red to better match the interior colours and fixes a few bugs too. Also, most importantly for Android users it replaces the Baidu CarLife with Android Auto.

I specifically coded mine to show the Scirocco image so could show you where/how if you like?

I would be interested to see if I couldn?t get my hands on one of those. What version should be I be looking for?
Need hardware version 534 at this point.
Mine came from aliexpress and was listed as a NoName version but appears to be the Desay version which is annoying as it's cheaper.
It's discussed at length in this thread and specifically this page of it:
http://www.golfmk6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=110801&page=48
EDIT: had a look at my order from aliexpress and I was wrong. Clearly says it is a DeSai version and shows screen with same software, firmware etc as what I got. Hmmm, maybe I'll sell it and get the RCD340G version with fixed bugs.

Got the new unit today (see above for link) and installed. Hardware version 534, software 5314.
Works great, just the same as the previous one but with Android Auto instead of Baidu Carlife and red details on the various pages instead of yellow.

Missed this thread, but ordered one of these on New year's Eve. Got here on Thursday (4 days from China). My r36 is in getting the bumper repaired as a noob in a Subaru rear ended me, so it won't be until the weekend that I can try fitting it.
Won't be so straightforward as I have rvc and need to install the rgb-cvbs adapter. Plus have the red MFD and 8 button wheel so no buttons for me :( still better than the Japanese RNS510 with no Bluetooth or radio stations tho!
Was looking at the C version but would have attracted duty as it's more expensive.
Also don't have vcds. What's the best affordable option here? eBay knock off or obdeleven?

I?ve read on a couple of forums that updating the steering wheel control module to CH revision allows the 8 button steering wheel to work. I?ll probably give it a go if I end up going down this route with my golf.
Thanks. After a fair bit of searching found this on a VW Vortex thread (http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?8746682-VW-RDC330-Plus-with-Apple-Car-Play-6RD-035-187B):
QuoteQuote
QuoteI can also confirm that updating the SWCM to a CH module allowed the steering wheel buttons to work with this HU on my 2006 GTI. I also replaced the dual cruise control stalk with a single version, as I was told the CH module is only compatible with the single stalk version, and if you swap the CH module without changing stalks, cruise will no longer work.
And yes, replacing the cruise stalk requires pulling the airbag and steering wheel off. Also the SWCM upgrade required VCDS coding to work properly. All worth it though!!
Not completely true on having to replace the turn signal/cruise control stalk if you have the dual stock setup. I still run mine, I just have to pull back to set, and turn it off and on again to create a new set point. Increase/decrease and resume still work, it is just the set that doesn't. When I pull everything apart for my climatronic swap, I will try merging the ground lines on the stalk, which I've also seen as a way to get it functioning correctly.
When you updated your SWCM, did you end up with an airbag fault? I did until I put a couple of pins into the airbag circuit path in the SWCM. My 2006 has a dual stage airbag, which requires two signal paths, not one.
Good to know you can combine the CH module with the dual cruise stalk and still have some functionality. I never actually tested that combo, just swapped it all at the same time. After using the single stalk setup for a while, I think I prefer it actually. Less accidental situations where I would hit the dual stalk and knock of out of cruise, or turn off cruise completely due to the multiple detents when pushing inward.
About the airbag fault, yes I had the same issue because the 06's have dual stage bags, and the CH module is intended for newer single stage airbag setups. I swapped the two pins over from my old SWCM onto the new board, using a solder gun, and voila, no more airbag fault.
So probably a fair bit more work and $ to get a partially working setup with simply a different compromise. Might be simpler to upgrade the wheel and MFD to the 12-button and white display. Although I haven't researched that completely yet either. At this stage I'm going to get it in and get the camera working and see how much I miss the steering wheel controls. While i use them every day, I'm pretty sure I'll quickly adapt.
With the Android Auto/Car play version. The mute button is replaced with an APP button. How do you mute the unit?
Test installed tonight without camera. Plug and play and everything works great except Android Auto which constantly crashes the unit and locks up my phone. Not sure if it's a problem with the firmware or my phone. I have a LG G6. Will try a Samsung tomorrow.
As it stands definitely not worth shelling out for Android Auto.
Anyone else had a similar experience?

I?ve found the only way is to hold the volume down button on the steering wheel. ?\_(ツ)_/?

Solved. Need to activate USB debugging on my phone for Android auto to work with this handset.
Now if only SoundCloud was supported...
Will try hooking up the camera today. Park pilot works flawlessly.

8-button wheel means buttons don't work. Ah well. Not the end of the world. Would be great if the right knob could be reprogrammed push to mute....
Anyone have a list of android auto apps supported on the rcd3330+?
For instance is there support for FB messenger or WhatsApp? What music players are supported?
I have pulsar for music but it tends to lock up for folders with anything but a handful of entries.
And don't know how to access message apps or if it's even possible.
One more question.
Has anyone got the oem camera working using a 26 pin RGB to CVBS converter unit? If so, how did you connect it - particularly the reverse/backup wire?
I have +ve and ground tapped into the feeds into the quad block connector and am receiving voltage. I tried tapping the back wire into +ve as well temporarily just to give it power as I'm guessing it is a relay feed, but I still get the reverse camera not available message when reversing.
Thanks

Thanks Jase. I managed to get that far on my own. :D I think it's a limitation of the unit as same problem with all the apps I've tried including Google Play Music with a playlist of all my songs.
A bit of a pain.
AA is slightly unstable too with the occasional crash. This could be my phone (LG G6) as it was really crashey and basically unusable until I enabled USB debugging. So possible compatibility isn't great. Will try other devices when I can and post feedback.
So Sinosmart (eBay and AliExpress) who supplied the RGB converter think it might be an issue with the dynamic trajectory camera. Possible as it may need a CAN connection to turn on and get steering wheel position info??? They offered to send me a different unit that *might* work or refund me. I took refund and will try find a solution or buy an aftermarket camera without dynamic trajectory rather than take the punt.
Anyone without DT want a cheap, unused RGB to CVBS converter? 8)
You can enable unknown sources:

Awesome!
Then sideload AnyAuto Audio from XDA developers and you can play music over AA using any music app. Just successfully trialled SoundCloud. Even displays album art.
It's also an effective work around for the problem I was having with accessing music on my device.
Now we're getting somewhere!

So a quick follow up, unit is working well except I get no Siri voice, regardless of what settings I try under the 'Siri & Search' options, or in accessibility. I have a friend with the RCD330+ who initially had problems and also a family member with a JVC CarPlay head unit who can't get her Siri voice to work either.
Any else been seeing this?
Besides this I have the a CarPlay only version of the RCD330+ which this one replaced, so if anyone wants to take that off my hands i'll give it to you for what I paid. Please DM me if you're interested.
For those trying to get their OEM camera working with this unit, or even better - have managed to get it working, please check out my new thread below:

Quick update, fixed the Siri issue by downgrading firmware version to 5314.
Repost from firmware thread but thought some people would likely look here and be interested in my experience.
I have the AliExpress crngiar 187B running Android Auto with FW 5515 (not car life). Car is a MY09 R36.
If I'd known the seller would've put a lower price on the customs form I'd have tried the 187E but I didn't and the duty would've killed it.
Works ok except:
Highline camera not compatible so no camera as of yet
Android Auto hangs on a semi-regular basis and I have to reboot (long press of power button). Could be a phone compatibility issue (LG G6+) as at first it wouldn't work at all until I enabled USB debugging.
Callers complain of an echo.
Steering wheel buttons don't work due to incompatible can language. I have the 8-button wheel and red MFD. Newer 12-button wheels and colour MFD apparently work ok.
Fairly often calls answer on handset or speakerphone mode not Bluetooth. Sometimes I can hit the Bluetooth button on the screen and it works, sometimes not.
Otherwise everything else is pretty good. Love google maps and OK Google. Have sideloaded AnyAutoAudio and Carstream so I can stream SoundCloud and YouTube. Sound quality is good and fade controls work fine.
Just wish I could eliminate the bugs.
Suppose it's ok for just $400. Shame there isn't something just a bit better for under a grand. Anything that seems to work properly is a few thousand bucks.
I found all firmware version on these units to work inconsistently on android Auto.
Regarding the steering wheel button issue on mk5 or red MFD equipped cars?
I may have found a working solution. Will report back in the next 2 weeks once I have installed and tested the solution on my own car.
currently waiting on it back from paint adjustments being made.
I'll also look into a reversing camera integration as well. To see if there is a way to incorporate OEM RVC.
I do however know the Japanese import RVC will not work. As they have a weird electronic box in line with RVC and RCD510/RNS510.
Installing an OEM NZ RCD/RNS510 with RVC input. Would not work no matter what coding was done. So there are additional pin outs I suspect being used on Japanese vs NZ New version of the OEM radios.
