Thinking of replacing the Hilux with a Toureg 3.0 Tdi. Possibly a 2011 or 2012.
Had a long line of utes and was looking at an Amorok but they are still running a Polo engine so I'm not keen. The Toureg has a 3.5 tonne tow rating and a decent 3.0 engine so it will have no problem towing the boat and the bikes and won't be working too hard doing it.
Has anyone on here had any issues with a diesel Toureg?
Look outside the square, Jeep Grand Cherokee able to do just the same with twice the spec at 2/3's the price ;)

Thanks YORKI, will have a look at them. Not a big fan of the American stuff, but have noticed the SRT8.
Have $50k to spend. Want to make it go as far as possible.
I live in walking distance from the Chrysler dealership, so may wander in for a look.
I saw this on FB the other day, might help make a decision? What about the Volvo suv?

My father has an 05 Touareg. It's the R5 2.5 TDI which he had tuned when he bought it with approx 130,000kms. Now has 200,000 on it. Absolutely no issues with it at all. Has air suspension and all the goodies. Beautiful to drive and tows our boat with no issues.
Give me your boat, and get the amarok; )

Holy Moose test !
Spent a couple of years driving around the states, so that is hardly suprising. Most of the roads are straight as far as the eye can see.

pretty sure the srt8 has only about 1600kgs tow rating.
Lack of good leg room in the back of the Amarok is an issue as well.
We had the old touareg 2006 3.0TDI. It was a good car, and very good at towing.
I would recommend one.
Not a sports car, but a solid all round SUV category car.
Good fuel economy for a heavy beast too.
We went to a Q7, only really for the 7 seats.
Have a couple on my watch list.

Looks like they drop $20k every 2 or 3 years which is a concern. My Hilux has only dropped $4k in 9 years. But it's a tractor with very poor fuel economy and is struggling to tow the boat when fully loaded.

Champagne taste with Ribena budget
you cannot compare a 3.0TDI Toureg with an SRT8, its like asking why does a banana not taste like an apple :o

one elderly owner.. Then goes on to say it's great for crossing rivers, farms, has underbody protection, tyre pressure monitor really handy for flats, hill descent control, oh but it's been well looked after and never any EXTREME off roading.. Yeah right!

offroad pack has proper low ratio gearbox, but they also weigh an extra 150kg!

Low range would be worth the extra weight for what I intend to do with it.

Yes, river crossings indeed. This is his luxury tractor.
