Hi everyone,
I have put together a list of all the NZ Corrados I am aware of, and so far have the details of 9 NZ new cars and 4 imports.
NZ New:
White - 3
Blue - 1
Black - 2
Red - 7
Imports:
White - 2.0 16V
Navy Blue - 2.9 VR6
Red - 1.8 8V G60
Purple - 2.0 16V
Green - 2.9 VR6 Storm
If anyone sees or knows of any Corrados please PM me the number plate combination, or even better a photo so I can then add them. :D
Cheers!
There is a grey NZ New 16v rolling around, apparently lives in Onehunga but I have seen it in CBD twice. Can't remember number plate.
Have you Rossi's? Is that one of the white ones already listed?

I sure do, it's the white import (originally 1.8 16V, then 1.9 16V, now 2.0 16V)
BRMotorsport modified from new, yes there is a grey 16V- drove it when I was looking for one.
Neil gave me a list a couple of years ago with:
NZ New (all 16vs):
Red- 7 (Including one tourist delivery)
White - 3 (one since de-registered)
Blue - 1
Black - 2
Imports:
White - 1 ex UK
Red (but not tornado red) ex Sing
Black - 1 ex UK
Purple - 1 ex UK
Green - 1 (VR6) ex UK
Blue - 1 (VR6)
One of the NZ red cars was written off in WLG (last year?)

That's correct - the tourist delivery one (PM***)

Do you and Neil have more details on the cars or just numbers?
Wasnt there a black VR6 one on TM a few years back..
Or was it the dark blue one VR6 listed ?

The list has their plate, VIN number and colour. typ53 faxed it to me (thanks again Craig!)
i now have 18 listed, 2 of which have been de-regd.

The Neil's list wasn't as exhaustive as we thought - the dark blue Auckland VR6 isn't on there, nor is the Grey 16v that Vert mentioned. I think the Green ex-Japan VR6 may have been written off a few years ago so that's a 'maybe' not on the list as well.
Hey Craig any chance you could email or fax me that list?
Wasn't there a VASKer CHCH way that had a LHD import he was using for parts ?

Cynic - he had a black LHD g60 for parts on his red 16v with facelift bits on. Since sold to a non vasker I think? Had a good smack in the bum!
There is a LHD G60 in Christchurch that has never been registered in New Zealand (LHD) but is very tidy and complete.

It was a Jap import 2.0 16V one... the rear end of the black one was used to repair the bum of the red one after it was rear ended while parked at night.

Hi Guys
Good to see my car hasn't been forgotton! I ended saving a few parts from the black LHD car before it met its fate, have doors, front guards and bumper and a spare bonnet if anyone ever needs.

Hi Nik. Unfortunatley Club Supercar didn't get off the ground. I couldn't get enough takers in Chch to make it viable within the budget I was prepared to spent on promotion etc prior exposing my self to the risk of buying the cars. Trying to launch in the middle of the "Global Financial Crisis" probably didn't help either. Seem to be pretty busy these days with lots of time overseas and family time when I'm at home.
Hey Rossi, nice to see you're still around.

Hi Rossi, it's been a long time since the "Corrado corral" shoot for Classic Car Mag. Hope all is well.
I'm after some RH Door plastics if you still have them as the G60 got broken into before Xmas and is now leaking when wet.
there are also 2 white vr6 corrado's too.
one manual and one Auto.
Pretty sure Manual was NZ new Was sold by bill tapper around 8.5 years ago.
Hi all, I am a happy bunny. Just bought the Black one off James. Picking her up on Sunday. I had a G60 Corrado (nugget yellow) rhd in the Uk as well as an Oak Green Mk2 Golf Gti. I have been driving around in a BMW 318is Motorsports 1996 which is a great drive but I have just put her up for sale on trademe. Great car but I had to get the Corrado.
welcome, great buy! :)
Great to have you in the club! What are your plans for the car? Congratulations
Thanks for the Welcome. I think it was a good buy although I haven't seen the car yet. Picking it up on Sunday. The car is pretty original and want to keep it that way. first thing is to get the paint damage fixed. The heater core has worn out so need to fix that. Not 100% sure what that means to be honest. I don't have a stack of cash so it will be on a as and when basis. need to get hold of her first and remedy the basics, clean her up inside and start looking for things like interior mats. The wheels look like they need a refurb, so either do that or possibly replace with a set of 9Jx16 rears/7.5J Borbet A wheels with flat centres, although I would probably need to import these from Germany. I do a lot of buying and selling on ebay in Germany/uk with VW/BMW wheels so I know my way around and can liaise with the Germans. If anyone has any recommendations of what I "must do" then let me know. :D
As per another message I have just posted, the Black corrado is in fact officially Graphite. When I picked her up I thought she looked like a gunmetal grey/graphite but definitely not black. On the service records at Continental motors and on the documentation she is listed as black but when I have had some paintwork done recently the colour code is Graphite.
just thought I would clear that one up for the record. Will get a pic up next wekend now that she looks half presentable!

lol sorry mate. ;) :D old chops not up with the rado play!
I'm wearing a huffer tee right now that says "chop chop". Just thought i'd throw that out there.
Just popped round our old place to pick up the mail (Bellevue Rd) a few hours ago and spotted in our good ol next door neighbours front drive a UK Corrado in dark blue with still its UK H-reg plates on!!!! I could'nt believe it, of all places, Nuts!! prob their friends one whom can't register it being non airbagged and a 1991 model year :o :o
Oh well pass on their details, I'll gladly take some parts.

Hi there,
I've got one of the NZ New Corrado's. 1989 16v, tornado red. I've had it for about 10 years now.
Welcome to VASK!
Is your plate OX**** or VW16V?

My old neighbours have told me that recently imported UK corrado now resides on Waiheke island with its new owners. God knows if its got registered? only option is as a classic, being a UK H-reg makes it only just 10years old.

Yep. Here it is. Jap import, black VR6, bought off TM in 2006. Haven't had the money to do much other than maintain the electrics.
You should bring it along to the next Monthly meet at HQ on Beaumont St! I'd love to have another look at your corrado, haven't seen it in years!

Sorry to hear. If the front chin lip that goes under the spoiler is still in good nick put me down for it. Only need the 90mm plastic part that goes under the spoiler. May be interested in other stuff also if available, including central locking pump and passenger door mechanism/motor & more. Let me know if & when. If a write off you would still make a few bob selling the parts for sure, even in NZ/OZ.

Not in NZ you won't, when I wrecked my black parts car all I got was wasters or idiots wanting plastic clips and crap like that. Or they expected bits for buttons. I ended up keep the whole lot, still have everything bar the engine and box.

On Wednesday night, crashed it thursday morning
I Know how you feel mate, White mk1 escort Mexico's were my Achilles heal,
Had two of them both bought on the Friday evening & both written off and completely destroyed on the sunday night.
!st I have no recollection of at all the 2nd I vaguely remember standing on the bonnet after climbing out through the windscreen wiping the blood off the bonnet with my sleeve worried about the paintwork, the car was wedged in a 4" gap all the way to the filler cap :'( :'(
I hope yours is minor mate and can be fixed, your fault of someone else's?
yeah it happens.
Old man pulled a u turn as i drove past him. If i had swerved it would have been straight into a truck so had to take the hit
Well it's official, one less corrado on the road for now! Not bad for a 15hour ownership
Are you going to buy it back?
Yeah price depending

does any one know anybody parting one in NZ? is there a guy in Wellington called Lane with one (so ive been told)? my sunroof has a few parts broken and i need to replace them asap as i have a big hole in my roof hah
Lane is not wrecking a Corrado.
Member 'M' is the only one who is likely to have parts, otherwise look overseas.
Lane had a red one in bits but it was several years back. He may have something secreted around the place, but your best bet is a passat or golf 3. They shared many parts with the Corrado. If you can't find something locally try ebay or autohausaz.com
He does have one for parts, its the one tyz crashed
ok so does anyone have his Vask name or anything? :)

HI all,
I own the Classic Green Corrado VR6 Storm. I am looking at selling it. :(
If anyone is interested. Please contact me.
It has 71k miles and I have owned it since 1996 (1 year old) @ 8k miles.
I brought back from the UK at the beginning of 1999.
It has some tasty extras.
Contact me for genuine enquiries only. No tyre kickers please. I would like to sell it to a genuine VW enthusiast who isn't going to pimp it up. It is one of 500 in the world, a lot of which are not even road worthy now.

Great car. Ive always admired it. But how did you settle on your asking price?
My sincere apologies for the delay in replying. I haven't really used this forum before and I (wrongly) assumed it would notify me by email if there was something I needed to reply to.
I based the (original) asking price on sales of immaculate Corrado Storms in the UK. There were a couple a while back and the price was 22k and about 27k GBP.
If you convert say 25k GBP at current FX rate of 0.48 it equates to NZD $52k. Then add GST @ 15% = $60k, then add in Shipping, Customs charges, registration etc and you get to about mid 60's NZD.
I have it listed on Trademe at the moment at $65k ONO.

I am open to reasonable offers and would certainly prefer to sell to someone who will treasure it for what it is, rather than go and put some great big wheels etc on it, if you know what I mean.
Thanks and regards

Factoring in GST costs, shipping etc is pretty odd? What if you had a UK purchaser wanting to buy the car? Would you then discount it by VAT, shipping etc?
I read that autocar review. I noted that was written in 2022 - so peak Covid madness. The car market and interest rates have changed a lot since then.
Best of luck with the sale.
