Well I might as well be the first one to put up a Mk5.
2006 MK5 R32 in Black Magic, DSG, VW Motorsports seats.
Modifications:
H&R Springs
Miltek Cat Back
Euro Plate
Different VW wheels (forgot the name of them!)
I may chip it, but I am saving for an RS4!!!!!!!!!!
Looks great! Can we see some interior shots please? ;)

A cafe Simon? Thats something a little different for you :)
Who knows, could turn into a bit of a VASK hang out for Auckland members?
Whats the low down with the Cafe Simon?
Yea, I want first-hand cafe goss. Where in Ponsonby?
You just want to go and drool over the leather in the Mk5, don;t you MsGTi? ;D
It can be my exclusive seat at the cafe. I'll order from the driver's seat! :D
Car is looking good Simon! Certainly plenty of Mk5 R32s about and a few subtle changes like you've made gives them the well deserved more muscular look. The stock wheel/tire package lets them down badly IMO.
Any update on your cafe? If you do a damn good flat white and decent scrambled eggs and bacon you can count me in as a regular patron! ;D
*cough*Freebies*cough*
Yes it is a very different path for me with the caf?, I will still be running the sales for Akzo in NZ though.
It?s going to be called Caf? Bliss, the R32 will be sign written this week.
You are all more than welcome, and you will ALL get a VASK discount!

Who did your logo Simon?
I lunch in Ponsonby all the time (I mean hell, I do drive a Golf!). See you there sometime :)
Being a local..
Will definately stop by for a coffee & to say hi
A company called "Rocket Signtists" have designed all the logos, menu board and signage, the original ?Bliss? logo I bought as art work from a Christchurch artist.
Come on Ms GTI, the R32 will stand out big time with the Bliss logo?s all over it, i have it on a PDF file but its too big to post, and I am sure if my partner Liesje gave you the keys for a drive you would agree? Lol.
Anybody from VASK will get a buy one get one free coffee, just mention this to Liesje, look forward to seeing you all!
Actually yea, I may have seen that artwork before (or something similar), as it looked kinda familiar. Rocket Signtists are great. Weren't they formerly Signing On?
Um yes, your car could be covered in a multitude of undesirable substances and I'd still take it for a spin!
Look forward to my buy one get one free - thanks Simon!
Hey simon, hows your cafe going? I work in ponsonby, might get a coffee one day :-) You got a good coffeemaker?
The coffee's great and the soup is even better. ;)
Whereabouts is it? No numbers please, just landmarks! :)
1st left-hand corner at Three Lamps before ped crossing heading toward Herne Bay. You can't miss the bright red Bliss logos. ;)
(does that make sense?)
yeah, kinda you mean down right down one side of ponsonby rd? Near the Belgium Beer Cafe?
Close, not that far through. On the corner of Ponsonby Rd and Cowan St.

Hi, bargain of the century!!! the new 30th edition GTI is a true wolf in disguise. The engine is not a std gti, its basically a S3 motor, with the KC04 turbo and other mods. I brought one last month in red, dsg etc nice with the 230hp but I knew it could do more. Look below the surface and you shall find a engine that could be remapped to preform alot better. I looked at superchips UK and yes they have remapped a edition 30 to a whopping 307hp that is 228kw. Well to cut a long story short I just upgraded my wifes car with the bluefin product......and wow what a car......this car with the upgrade turns in to a beast from hell. Yes putting the power down through 2 wheels is not easy but it can handle it, and what you get is 1336kg of car and 228kw of smooth delivering power that is close to a super car. 180mph/290kph and a 0 to 100 in around 5 secs I haven't been able to measure it.....but bloody fast. I have'nt had this much fun since getting chased by the police as a teenager in my MK1 lotus cortina and that was slow. So if you smart you will look at grabbing one of these babies, remember only 30 coming to NZ. I was so impressed I just ordered another 1 as my wife does'nt like me driving hers, mine is black which I get next week. Don't delay as there are only a few left for sale, so re-mortgage the house, sell the kids, sell the wife, win lotto. Just do it. Cheers MM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Lwc8eB9lHQ
Tiff Needle is a GOD on the track this is a good ad for the new GTI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKxCT1UK_sE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKxCT1UK_sE)
There was a clip of him driving the ford Puma a couple of years back when it was vote Top Gears car of the year I think it was Quentin Wilson who sat in the back without his seat belt on and ended up doing sumasaults as Tiff balanced it on the edge
I'll say it again Tiff is GOD >:D >:D >:D >:D
Sounds great fun Madmax100 and the car sounds like a complete mad man! >:D
Thanks, a lot of fun. Question: What is it with Auckland drivers who hog the outside lane doing 90-100kph? haven't they heard of the keep left rule unless they overtaking. Only in NZ, sorry to the guy in the Honda people mover today doing 90k's up a hill with his finger up his backside on the northern motorway, he got a little upset when I under took him.....for some reason his lights seem to be flashing. I was 'nt going that much faster, yet they feel they have the right to control our road use and lane hog.
What is it with the police they can only nick people for speeding, why not the stuffed turkeys for lane hogging???? I suppose its easy to nick people for a instant fine than it is to nick those that cause frustration on our motorways. Come on boys in blue wake up and stop collecting tax and think about road safety and dealing to poor driving skill.
I have driven for 18 years in NZ never have had a speeding ticket from a police car (have had a few from those white dustbins that sit on the side of the road in the most odd places....road safety....yeh right.... I drink tui's too. Well that's my moan for Sunday, back to work tomorrow, have fun and enjoy your week. Cheers MM

08 MK5 GTI BMP with the DSG box. Had it now for about 6 weeks, totally addicted to the driving experience, 6500 k's already!!
I will keep the car completely stock original. I have owned many air-cooled beetles/kombi's and have always appreciated the opportunity to own old original cars more than anything else.
The wife owns a MK4 that we bought from John(vert1), thanks John, has been an awesome little car so far. Our garage looks great with both cars together.
I have been on holiday for the last couple of weeks and have pretty much done nothing else but blast around the South Island.
My first good drive was from ChCh, across the Arthur's Pass, around lake Brunner, back over the Lewis Pass, Hanmer Springs then back to ChCh, no tickets.
Next was a drive south to Oamaru, catch up with some friends, inland to Waimate, Kurow, then onto Otematata, Omarama, north Twizel, Lake Pukaki, onto Fairlie, Geraldine, Ashburton then home, no tickets.
Next up was with the family to Queenstown, getting there saw us head back over Arthur's Pass to the West Coast, south through Hokitika, Hasst and on down to Wanaka then to Queenstown, no tickets. 10 hr road trip and could have turned around and done it again, the driving position and comfort is near on perfect for me.
On the way back from Queenstown, we headed south to Alexandra then across country taking in the 'Pig Route', some of the best driving roads there are!! Mile after mile of outstanding driving roads with no traffic, except for the one cop!! Hit the east coast south of Oamaru, turned north and on up through Oamaru, Timaru, Ashburton and on home. 1 ticket!!
To bring up the 6500 k's saw a quick trip up to Nelson, north out of ChCh, up through Culverden, past Hanmer, Springs Junction, Murchison to Nelson. Next day, caught up with some friends before heading south again before cutting across to Blenheim, south to Kaikoura before heading inland past Mt Lyford to Culverden then back out to SH1 before pointing my nose for home, no tickets.
For those of you that know these roads, you will know that they are some of the best. Mind blowing scenery, unpopulated, and with the MK5, a simply outstanding car to travel them in. Only having to go back to work stopped me going further.
I've prattled on enough about my travels and only briefly mentioned the car itself. To do that many K's in a few short weeks, I think tells you how much I love this car, i can't stop driving it, simple.
Struggled to upload some photo's, check some here ........ http://www.flickr.com/photos/11966916@N07/
Holy crap 6500 kms already!! You don't muck around then do you.
Looks very nice, easy to see why so many people like them
Nice GTI in black. (is there any other colour for a golf!!!)
Your description of your travels makes me want to go on a roadtrip in my golf :'(
Id love to get a new GTI now. How much did it cost you?

I have been into air-cooled VW's for many many years and have always enjoyed seeing one owner cars and the history that is built as the years tick over. That was my main motivation to buy new, so had to pay plenty. There are a ton of good used MK5's on the market, but they would never be the one owner car I hankered for. For me, it just adds something very special to the experience.
I've just bought a 2008 spec GTI DSG, Black Magic, Leather, Sunroof, Bluetooth, Ipod Connection, 18" Wheels, tinted windows, Euro plates.
Had the engine management software upgrade by Revo - taken the stock 200bhp/147kw up to 260bhp/191kw and 387nm of torque (thats the same as the Audi 4.2L V8). Runs like a bat out of hell.
Badly need a radar detector... :police:

Welcome to the forum. Sounds a very nice car. Where abouts in the country are you situated?
Thanks. I live in Auckland (Mt Eden) and work in the City. Days like these, heated leather seats are a god-send.

Hi,
I am new to forum, here goes...
Black 2006 MK5 GTi. 6 Speed Manual. 18" wheel upgrade with 235/40 tyres. Dark tints.
Under the hood: Carbon fibre cold air box and K&N panel filter. Stage 1 APR remap. 3" downpipe. APR engine mount insert.
So I can pass for standard at the lights but I guess the sound that comes out when opening her up says I have fiddled a little ;)
Really should get around to getting dyno I suppose.
Now outside of new car warranty so time for some serious mods! - currently looking at stage 3 APR kit, upgrade brembo brake kit (to stop 400 odd horsies somehow) and adjustable suspension.
Cheers!

Here is what an APR stage 3 MK5 GTi looks like: (pretty much like any other black GTi :) with a couple of APR stickers, you cannot hear exhaust until about 2500rpm when she really starts to dance). Most people will only ever see the back of it however :)

Serious mojo. Loving it. The MkIV and MkV GTIs are not related in any way. Not that I'm hating on my beloved Smurf.
I'd make comparisons, but it's not possible to make them fairly. There's a 7 year age gap between the two cars for a start...
Here's a pic taken at the dealership. Haven't had a chance to take any decent pics in daylight yet!

Hi I am a newbee here so hope I get this right.
I Just got (1 week ago) a NZ 2006 Mk5 2.0T DSG and was looking at the Stage 1 APR but just doing a bit of research first.
just a couple of questions. Do you know if they ever have sales here (can not really stretch to meet the current nearly 2k price) and have you had any worries/issues after you had the upgrade ? Thanks for any info you can provide.
OOps sorry just notice this is probably not in the correct forum, I see there is one ref APR Upgrades so will ask my questions there.

went for the clean oem look of the mk6 golf r so i colour coded lower black trim

i done it myself.im a automotive refinisher by trade though.
getting the colour right is the main thing.and dont cover the trims in silicone if you plan on
doing it.looks 100times better even with stock rims.il post more pics when i get time.
i also have the machined face and gunmetal 18" version of the stock mk5 gti rims i may consider selling soon.
Could be keen on the 18's...
Didn't know Ronal also made them.
Only seen BBS so far.

From what i've read it was a 50/50 split. Although beware if u ever need to replace ur wheels make sure they the same. Apparently ronal and bbs colours are slightly different so you cant mix and match. In the US especially guys were getting some cars turn up with mixed wheels

it rides nice only because my mrs drives it aswel so opted for a soft spring to
compensate for the 225/30 tyres which can be harsh on rims if pot holes are hit.
19s are probably the best option for a mk5 but i wanted it off the ground so the mrs is good to go
without wrecking anything.was a bit of a risk but looks ok for a daily.

Superb !
Better then the BS RE050A, RE001, RE002.
Grippy in the dry, better in the wet than the tread pattern would indicate.
Relatively cheap too (under $300ea.) !
I traded my 00 Passat 4mo on the weekend as it was pushing on in age and kms was after smaller and something a little easier on gas, im well impressed with this so far, not overly high spec but still handles wonderful.

indeed it is the one from fast fours wasnt 100% on the colour while looking at it on the net but seeing it in person had me sold only problem is wellington has a few tunnels which get blasted through with the windows down which means it not the best on petrol but who cares

Is a different car to the subi. Subi was fast and had been super reliable but just different league. The WRX was 04 and the GTI is 05 but the golf feels 5years newer.. Way more gadgets :P
Worked out most of them.
Found cup holder/bottle opener
Worked out cruse control
Found launch control too ;D

Yes, even in standard trim the GTI has a few interesting gizmos.
Have you discovered the automatic window open/close when you hold down the lock/unlock buttons on the remote ?
Or the switch on the inside driver's side b pillar that switches off the alarm system's internal and/or tilt sensors ?
Or the quirky electric mirror switch which moves both mirrors when set to adjust the left one ?
I've had my 05 for 18mths and I'm still finding new features.
;D
Have you discovered the automatic window open/close when you hold down the lock/unlock buttons on the remote ? NO will be looking tomorrow
Or the switch on the inside driver's side b pillar that switches off the alarm system's internal and/or tilt sensors ? NO same as above.
Or the quirky electric mirror switch which moves both mirrors when set to adjust the left one ? Yea that had me confused! im tall and always have to adjust mirrors
and unsure why i can turn off the air bags from the glove box..

isnt it a speed warning?usualy good set at 140
That's the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System afaik - you set the tyre pressure and the dash light comes on when the pressure falls below what you've set or when you get a flat.
thats what i thought ( speed alarm ) but it did nothing... and thats somehow controlled on the end of the wiper stick.
typical i searched last night and couldnt find anything then just now found this http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5133 (http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5133)
Apparently flat tyre sensor, as slowmo said.
very interesting as i have played around with it on speed settings
and thought it was working.duhhh ::)

My last golf was a 1996 VR6 Mk3, this car is of course light years ahead in every aspect, from Handling, Braking, Acceleration, Comfort etc.
I love the DSG Gearbox in comparison to a normal automatic, this was the only type of car I could find that suited both the needs of me and my partner.
I purchased a 3 Year mechanical warranty also, which a $8000 claim limit per claim, as my experience hasn't been great in the past, however I like the way these cars drive.

Hi guys, just picked up new 05 NZ New GTI from Palmy this morning and took this quick shot on the way up Paekak Hill while having some good old fashioned white knuckle fun. It's booked in for a full cut and polish next week after a checkup with my mechanic so I'll take some proper pics once she's tidied up a bit. Nice to finally join the MK5 crew,

Thanks slowmo it actually needs a lot of work but should be sorted soon.
Schattenblau it was hiding in Turners for a while. I came across it purely by accident and only bought it after tracking down the service history.

Indeed it is. Makes a HUGE difference to the car. Nice clean crisp turning, proper feedback from steering wheel.
Improves front end grip even on pull away. Reduces wheel hop experienced, especially when the car is tuned.
No harshness in the cabin at all.
Here is what the Arm looks like - Also over 2KG's lighter than factory part.

Make sure u do the noise pipe delete that the us spec mk5's come with.

Another Yank oddity/minus ?
Is it a special US tune or EU 155kW/207bhp ?

I bought the car late last year, and the previous owner had painted the grill black. It did look good, but the grill had a couple of splits in it so I have since replaced it with the stock silver grill. Looks good in both colours really.
Leebske's R32?
Very nice bryan, welcome :)
I bought it off Tom in Christchurch. Not sure who the owner before that was.

yep... there is no comparison with any of the other colours for me. I did love the mk5 but it felt like it was too perfect if you know what I mean... if you see my mk4 you see I like modifying and even though I think thats pretty perfect when standard too, the virus has really caught me on this one... 111kms now eh... I got it with 98k and sold it with 102 or so to tom... it was just sitting in my garage all the time so a bit of a waste... nicest spec thats available for a mk5!!

Well, unfortunately my AC compressor has crapped out, so next week will be getting that sorted. I'm thinking of going down the APR path for a few things; engine and trans mounts, drop links & possibly springs, ECU reflash, exhaust.
Would really like to try their DSG reflash too, but need to get a few people interested in a group buy to get the cost down.
All in good time I suppose... Or all at once if I win that small lotto :)

Did a group buy from ebay/aliexpress a few months back with Farran. Bolts align perfectly except for 2 clips that needed to be heated and bent to the right angle.

That's the one alright.... It only just finished it's build 7 days before Targa started and didn't to have a shake down.. Subsequently had over boost issues and car would go into limp mode. We would have to mid stage pull over turn it off and restart... Took until New Plymouth before we could get to a VAG machine to fix... It was running about 300bhp from memory.
I saw that car in 2009 during the Palm Nth Targa stop over.

Haha, there coming in use already. You should know that by now.
Anybody know where I can get a mesh grill made up?
I think you'd need to DIY it for the lower (cut out an existing and use the frame) but the upper there are a few carbon masks like mine that you can put mesh into the upper around the emblem
My 06 R32, DSG, Recaro's, Flapper mod
Might lower it a little......
Nice. You can also use image shack, photo bucket to load more pics!
I dont think i've put this car on here before, now that i have some cool rolling shots ill have a little share

Hi guys, long time reader! Finally purchased a MKV GTI so thought I would join up to learn a few things. Been into cars for years.. Honda's mostly 2 Litre Civic Type R and Integras.
Here's my GTI.. Bilstein coilovers, 19" BBS reps and Japanese installed Mandral exhaust. 2007 w/ DSG
That looks great! 8)

My 1st "mod" as such is to get a 2nd key for it as I purchased it with 1. After any insights on how to do that cost effectively... I called Miles in CHCH and they wanted $660 incl
I'm going to be in Auckland over the Xmas/NY break so will investigate options up there as well.
As for real mods.. APR/Similar reflash/tune is about all I'm looking at. Long term goal is an 8P S3
i'm not known to be a fan of colour coding but your car looks great.
ps forget the s3, gti is a better car ;)

Hey guys,
Had a friend tell me about this so came over to check it out.
I just recently purchased myself a Golf GTI Pirelii Edition.
Its stock at the moment (minus a head deck change) and I don't have any plans for mods in the immediate future as finances need to stabilise after the big purchase lol.
First thing I'm planning on is a remap though :)

Hi all,
Just new the VW Golf scene (coming from BMW), picked up this the other week. 1.4 supercharger/turbo, very quick when compared to my E90 323i Msport.
It's a bit too low for my liking, does anyone know if I can get standard shocks from any MK5 Golf (either hatch or wagon, R32 or Golf GTI etc) and they'll fit right in and lift up the ride height? I'll also have a set of Vogtland 50mm suspension for sale ior swap if they can.

Beauty! Any future plans for it?
Upgrading the sounds because I love good audio and then I am undecided about whether I get an ECU remap done or not, but will most likely get that done in the next year.
This is my 2008 GTI, it is my first VW and I love it! I plan on doing an exhaust and tune upgrade sometime soon, if anyone could recommend someone in christchurch for this kind of thing I would be very appreciative. Also I would like to remove the R badges which were put on by a previous owner, any tips on how to do this without damaging the paint?

Are you curious why I bought this car? I'm a little bit confused by your comment.
Im trying to find it online. You went for a white GTI when theres another similar looking one with Brembo brakes and other expensive parts already installed yet you chose your one from those guys
Ah right. I'm happy enough with what I got :)
Yeah looks good, esp if you change the front so it doesn't look like a hybrid R32/GTI.
I just prefer to research the best deals on cars online before buying.

All depends on what the insurance company offers me. If another Ed30 comes up maybe one of them but also potentially a s3
shank's pony for a while ?
So that plate is basically redundant now I guess.
Here's the front of mine.
Just makes it over the little drop off the asphalt.
Got a few goodies, mostly cosmetic - faux-german but actually nice Japanese stainless catback (once I got the hole welded up), brand new michelin pilot sport's, ED30 gear selector, aftermarket lighting, new front plastic bits, bunch of interior lighting done, slightly lowered on some springs, auto dimming rear mirror and a few other bits of kit.
Also some aftermarket intercooler piping & a weirdly setup silent BOV.
To be done:
Less chrome more black on the outside (badges, maybe some smoked lights instead of the aftermarket glossy ones I've got, maybe repaint the standard rims to black, slight window tint). Would eventually like to put a tune on it but wanna get the supporting bits first. Seeing as I've already got 1/2 an exhaust I'm tempted to put the front half of it on there.
Need to remove the BOV as well and fix some interior rattles.
Pretty stoked, still a little sad I didn't get a manual but the DSG is a good compromise for a single car household.

Hey,
I just got a 2009 Golf GTI Pirelli. It's lovely - my first VW! Currently it's very stock, but depending on any advice, that might change...

Hey man welcome to the club.
At the very least i would suggest getting a Stage 1 or 1+ (95/98 octane) Unitronic Tune.
Ups the horsepower from like 230 to 300+
I have done it on my own Pirelli GTI and it's worth every penny, completely different beast.
Hi guys,
Recently pulled the trigger on a 2008 Pirelli Edition DSG with 66000km. I'm the first NZ owner so I had everything serviced as soon as I got it, including the all important DSG oil change.
This is my first VW and it's replacing a 1997 Jeep Cherokee that was lifted on big mud tyres... a different experience to say the least.
Given the big increase in performance over my last vehicle I'm happy to get to know the car and leave it stock for the next wee while at least. A Remap will be on the cards after that.

Another Pirelli owner woot. Welcome >:D
Hi forum, I'd thought to share my old MK5 Pirelli with you, did some performance upgrades to her including Stage 2+ APR, DSG tune, BC coils, Milltek, R32 front brakes, R32 rear bumper, intake etc etc. Kind of miss her, she was quick and awesome to drive., she went to a good owner though.
I then jumped into a MK7 GTI, gave her a similar treatment APR Stage 2, Milltek Downpipe, coilovers, PS4s tyres, so far pretty happy with it.

How do you find the MK7 GTI vs the MK5 GTI? same sort of fun to drive?
I've got a stage 2 MK5 6spd, but looking to go for either a MK6R or MK7 GTI - same mods, stage 2 etc.
I love the look of the MK7 GTI, but also want to try the 4WD of the MK6R

To be honest, I probably enjoyed driving the MK5 more as it was more raw and brutal. To me, the MK7 is more mature, lighter, better chassis, more refined and fuel efficient, dsg is improved etc.
I test drove the MK6R before I brought the MK7. I think you get alot for your money in the GTI. plus I just wanted a newer car.
In stock form, I found the MK6R to feel more like a touring car rather than a hot hatch, with a tune and mods sure its a different story. In the end, it depends on your goals, I think if your going for straight power and speed from the lights, you cant beat the 4WD. But if you want some drama get the GTI and invest in good tyres.
My butt dyno tells me my stage 2 MK7 is faster than my MK5 at Stage 2+ but probably not much in it really.

Thanks for the reply. I've heard a lot of stories that the MK6R is more of a cruiser, though more awoken once bolt-ons + tune. I think the car will be driven daily, mainly to work and back + a bit of weekend driving.
I think i'll test drive both like you did and see what feels more engaging.
I love the MK5, but just like you I want something newer though with a bit more power.
I've recently read a couple of "which is the best Golf GTI" articles, MK5 all the way

Hi all,
My name is Nic and Im new to the forum having recently bought a 2007 Golf GTI. I'm located in Wellington :D The new car is pretty stock standard but I have been on the look out for one for a while.
Hi guys,
Well after a big search for ?my? perfect Mk 5 GTI, I?ve just bought an ?05 manual.
I knew deep down that I wanted a manual, test drove with the DSG back to back, and in the end am over the moon with my decision.
Will try and get some photos up soon.

I take it we're talking a GTI?
Yep, sorry GTI ;D
I've got an 05 manual too. Still love it after 4 years and many mods.

I?m looking at initially doing the stage one upgrade in August or September. Did you have any issues with your OEM clutch slipping or did you just upgrade right away?
Anyway stoked with the car. I remember seeing a red MK5 at the Sydney Motor Show back in 2005 and knew then one day I wanted one. Needless to say, the wait has been worth it.

Went stage 1 at about 120k then stage 2+ at about 130k. Just replaced the clutch recently at 166k.
It hadn't been slipping but went up in a cloud of smoke as I was reversing up a steep driveway and couldn't see where I was going. I was having to ride the clutch while being given directions. Next thing, clutch is out and I'm not moving.
2004 Golf TDI DSG stock standard for now.
Picked the little fulla up a couple of days ago and so far I'm impressed with the torque and I'm looking forward to getting a stage 1 tune for it as well as maybe a DSG tune as I read it makes a big difference but I'd love to hear other owners opinions on this one!
welcome !
i almost bought an nz new tdi sport.
a very nice daily driver.
got pix ?
I tried a few times but it keeps telling me the upload folder is full so.....you'll have to imagine the silver beast for now.
best way to put a photo on here is to load it to a third party server and paste a link in your post.
So,
I bought a Mk5 GTi for my partner for Christmas, If I?m honest it was a bit of an impulse buy because someone at work was selling it and we needed another car due to the recent Death of her Altezza!
It?s a 5 door Japanese import in White with 128K on the clock
I like VW and drive an Amorok daily, we have had two Passat?s in the past but never have considered a Golf. Anyway, this one became available and apart from some minor wear and tear to the interior and two kerbed alloy wheels it is truly very tidy indeed. There is very little service history but given that it looks to have been very well cared for and that the price was right I thought we would give it a go.
So, I need to get the thing fully serviced including Cam belt and DSG Gearbox flushed and am looking to get some recommendations for a place in Auckland that knows these cars.
My plans for it are to fix the cosmetic bits and leave it as standard, she loves the car already and it has more than adequate grunt to keep us both happy :-)
I have already removed the gear stick surround and repainted it, now looks great. I?ve ordered new switches for the windows / mirror and bought a very cheap set of original alloys to swap out the 2 that are kerbed.
Next is a full service as mentioned and replace the head unit with an Apple Car Play unit.
I?ll try to put a picture up :-)
contact Hennie at HSP Tuning (message HSP Tuning on FB) they based out in the north shore they a 1 stop shop. Alternatively Brodie European in khyber pass is also very good and a bit more central.
2006 MKV GTI in Candy White. AXX EA113 Motor.
Stage 1 AlienTech tune.
CTS Turbo series 2 intake.
Stuttgart ST12's 18'x9.5'.
Really want a Integrated Engineering down pipe w/ high flow cat and custom rear section. After that is done just going to look after it keep it in mint condition.

Cant upload photo.

As of a few days before lockdown, I became the happy owner of a Mexican built 2008 Golf Sportwagon in Campanella white.
Stock
Designation is TSI, which is a little misleading as most feature the 1.4l motor. This is the 147kW BWA 2.0l FSI version.
6-speed DSG
102,*** when bought. (2nd NZ owner)
Wheels wise, the build sheet says: 7Jx17 and Bridgestone 225/45 R17. But somewhere along the way, someone has swapped the wheels. It's shod with 16" "Road America" rims which are from a Passat. The seller put brand new 215/55 Goodyear Optilife's on before advertising it. Maybe this is where the wheel swap happened. I'll wait until life returns to some higher level of sanity and the tyres wear a bit before restoring this (unless the tyres prove too slippery in the winter months).
I replaced the Nippon-only dual DIN with a multi-lingual Pioneer unit I picked online in haste late one night. Meaning I wanted something before lock down and I didn't do my homework properly. It doesn't have GPS or out of the box support for MirrorLink to Android. But it was cheap(ish). Key issues got ticked, BlueTooth support and touchscreen.
Haven't really stretched its legs yet. Not sure if I want to.......the wife said "it's gone if you getting a ticket!" That said, it's an effortless and smooth ride that's way lighter on petrol than the Passat could ever dream about.
The only service history it came with is for a service that included cambelt replacement at 97,000km. One little niggle the car had at purchase was a 'check coolant' warning that would come on randomly a minute after starting. The sensor is built into the reservoir tank, but was a cheap replacement.
There's someone selling what I've seen to be the stock 17" wheels for the Mk5 Golf Variant 2.0T on the VASK Facebook group, with good tyres, for $350
Hi all
New member here \o/
I recently became the proud owner of a 2005 Mk5 Golf GTI. Had 124800km on the clock when I bought it. Needs some work here and there, but that's where the fun starts right? ;)
First things first will be a proper service and replacing all the parts that commonly fail on the Mk5's. After that there's a bit of nice to have's I need to get sorted. And after that hopefully some tuning...

Hey man congratulations!
I still remember how I felt the first day I got my Gti.
Moving from a normal golf and Passat to a Gti, it was unforgettable.
We all do know it's not a super fast machine like AMG or M3 or 911 turbo, but it is joyful.
I think the reason is similar to why people like MX-5. It's just fun and satisfying.
You might already know this but what I am suggesting are these:
1. change the cam follower ASAP.
the dealer usually wouldn't replace it. There are tons of videos on YouTube.
I recommend you to buy one from TradeMe.
2. So when your car is about 120K, it's time to check spark plugs.
stock mk5 gti usually use expensive NGK Platinum spark plug which would at least last about 8k~120k.
if your car feels misfiring, it might be the spark plug or the ignition coil.
I'm now using NGK iridium spark plugs, which is much cheaper (1/3 price) but last shorter, and no performance difference.
3. ignition coil. they are expensive. a whole set costs at least more than $270.
but try not to replace them for no reason. it won't make your car run smoother.
a mechanic has told me that you might need to replace just the faulty one only when the CEL is on.
4. if your car has rough idling, check the PCV Valve. I used to use Aluminum plate PCV delete kit but I swapped back to OEM.
The reason was that it made terrible emission. Black smokes came out regularly.
After changed back to OEM, no black smokes.
5. Diverter valve. Yes it is very important.
there are several version of them. They call it revision C, D, G.....
C is the worst one. D is piston type which is the best one.
if you hear some whining noise, it would be the DV valve.

I am looking for any advice in terms of things to look out for as a noob with these cars please. (I appreciate a lot of this likely appears in other posts.... I am slowly going through the forum.
Is there anyone else from northland on the forum?
I am also looking for advice on cheap upgrades I can make to personalize my car on a budget and where you guys recommend I shop
Mods might come later but at the moment the budget is broken
disclaimer- my dad "strongly" advised I join the forum
mods- sorry if this post is in the wrong section or I have posted something I shouldn't have
Not wrong place at all. Welcome to the forum. Since you?re in Whangarei, keep an eye out at the local zebra car parts branch for any Mk5 Golfs to replace any broken trim pieces or other small items you may need.
There?s also plenty of upgrade parts that you can get from the GTI or the R32 to dress up your car a bit too (especially the front seats).
I'm in Whangarei and have legitimate VCDS as well as a reasonable amount of experience with the 2.0 FSI. I also have a few random parts sitting around from the 2 Tourans I've removed drive trains from.
I don't often have a whole lot of time, but often check in here, so may be able to help if you have issues 8)
