Car had been sitting outside for 5 weeks whilst I was away..started first pop...never lets me down. Just needed a good cut and polish, which I gave it today with a borrowed Makita polisher...came up great.

Was thinking so, damn the aircon was awesome. Blasted freezing cold air no problems, my gti struggles to blast anything near that but will happily melt my face on hot. Would like to know why that is. Aircon regas? Scary thought..

have seen a limited edition yellow transformers camaro (opps, I had mustang!) parked outside the Holden shop on Taranaki for the last few days
I like it!
Department of Conservation 4WD ute on it's side on the main road just south of National Park. I was second on the scene and helped get the sole occupant out. Not a mark on him. Can't say the same about the vehicle. Seems he came round the corner at the bottom of the hill and the back end slid out, hit the bank, spun him through 180 degrees so he was facing down hill, and flicked on to the passenger side. Had very 'off road' biased tyres, and it was raining at the time. He actually radioed his base in Wanganui, and the Police in National Park, before he was assisted (two of us holding the door up) out of the cab. He seemed pretty calm about things. As he climbed out, he bought a carton with him ...... 1,000 rounds of ammunition for his rifle.

That RS4 has taken a massive T bone hit. I assume the driver and child were on the right side, as the left side had deformed significantly. Even still, i'm utterly surprised they are not dead, let alone uninjured.

You could have one for $565,000. If they weren't all pre sold that is.
did it just return from the track?
No it was getting it's pre delivery inspection, only has a couple k's on the clock. The tyres are Michelin Pilot Sport Cups, they are basically track tyres with the bare minimum of tread. They look very much like slicks from side on. I guess thats why you asked?
the ex-golfbag mk3 looking good

yeah, I was heading up to see the folks in Levin. Just got back actually. one night in Wellington then off over the hill to the somewhere just out of Masterton to join some friends and let the children run wild in the great outdoors!
:)
Out for a nice ??? run (as in, physical exercise) on Sunday (Boxing Day) morning at around 09:30, and running up the nasty hill on Maritime Terrace just after Little Shoal Bay in Birkenhead, and saw a beautiful Corrado. I was too knackered to notice much more than how lovely it was and the nice wheels. Gave the driver a wave, and pointed at the car, just to ensure he wasn't think I was a bit 'that way'!
Spotted a imola yellow 8P S3 in Havelock North yesterday. Looked smart, didnt know you could still get imola yellow in that shape S3?
Spotted a Prelude having spun out at the end of a overtaking lane (last one prior to walkworth going north), having crossed the opposing traffic lane and smashed into the bank. Luckily it hit no other cars, nor anyone seriously hurt. Had to play 'slow the approaching traffic down duty' until the fire trucks turned up, to avoid further incidents.
My simply comments are that ESP 'probably' would have avoided such an accident in the first place. If you dont have it, put it on your shopping list for your next car.
No doubt as ESP becomes more installed on our base of cars on the road, the police will claim its their vigilance on ticketing cars 5km of the limit that drops the accident rate...

If the driver was driving to the conditions it shouldnt have happened. Nothing to do with ESP.

I think the point is that ESP might have prevented the accident despite the driver :)

What he said
in principle, no software designer or traffic engineer can cope with 100% of situations and by dumbing down drivers, we create a situation where they are unused to understanding situations on the road and making judgements about how to react
I remember talking to an experienced traffic engineer at work and asking him why there wasn't a pedestrian crossing at a certain point, his response was that drivers didn't always recognise crossings and that they gave pedestrians a false sense of security, seemed like an argument for more crossings (familiarity) rather than less (unfamiliarity)
same point with unnecessary red turning arrows, I know that I have sufficient depth of field of view and gap judgement to know when not to turn against traffic, but the traffic engineer wants to protect me from myself
I'm a great fan of treating drivers as responsible adults, rather than as children and slapping them when they behave accordingly http://www.seattlepi.com/transportation/293229_roads22.html (http://www.seattlepi.com/transportation/293229_roads22.html)
