Post by: Rs4Richie on March 02, 2017, 04:50:34 PM
Hey guys, anyone on here own an rs3 8v? Would like to ask a few questions..

Ive recently sold my amazing b7 rs4, and looking at buying something newer.
I test drove an rs3 8v and was absolutely blown away with it.

Cheers
Richie

I came close to buying one a few months ago (8P), and yes they are an amazing bit of kit but i had to say to myself what did it do better than my B7 for near the same money at the time...

Things i found annoying with 8P= Interior is boring unless you get the Recaros, MMI is pretty average, still no BT or handsfree, no GPS, bootspace is near the same as a golf. The only thing is that makes up for all that is that amazing engine.

Drove the 8V on an Audi Track experience day, and to me that was the most fun VS the Rs7 & RS6 i also got to drive. They lifted the game interior wise, and also with the exhaust system so definitely worth the money, but again a Golf R can do it just as well for a fraction less.In saying that i'd take the RS purely for that engine note and sound.

i would have kept the b7 rs4 - the last truly great audi rs car

if you want 5 cylinder goodness try the rsq3, a much better drive than an rs3.

wait... did someone say mercedes-amg a45 ?

>:D

Thanks for the feedback guys.
The B7 rs4 (sedan) was great. But it just wasn't practical enough for me. I didn't daily drive it as i hated driving it in Auckland traffic- stop/starts etc. and the fuel consumption on the thing was really bad. It was a VERY enjoyable car on the open road at Top end.  But lacked torque down low. It was rarely driven.

I'm looking for something to daily drive. Auto (dsg) and turbo. The wife has a mk6 golf gti so we're not looking for another golf. I'm not a fan of the Amg45's for me theres way to much happening in the interior and the exterior screams out boy racer!

RS3 is a great car my mate back home has one the 5 pot turbo is sublime and ticks all the right exhaust notes you will want. But don't be fooled that fuel consumption is going to be any better they quite thirsty critters especially if you have a heavy right foot. Very comfortable car to sit in I actually like the interior nice feel to it as well.

I had a chuckle to myself the other day, when the parts guy corrected me when I referred to dsg as an auto box.
His response in a very firm tone.."dsg is not an auto".
I reframed from any smart ass response's as I was in need of his help..
The first thought to mind was. "What ever your marketing department tells you mate".
Any how the guy was very helpful.
