Dirt roads!!! Rocks!!!
Surely the car is too nice for that?

Well down here in the South Island a lot of the roads are dirt roads, so it's just something that you have to deal with.

I must admit to being a tad careful about the potholes. Make sure I go at least 80km/h on dirt roads so the wheels don't fall into them and instead fly over the top. Either that or go at 10km/h if it's really bad.

I had a rock take out the oil sensor under the sump up in Golden Bay one year - wasn't good. Just about every light on the dash lit up saying stop the car now or die!

Cheers, Ed.

Ha, that would've been interesting, if not disconcerting.
Well I live in Dunna's, and the roads here are pretty good generally, although I have been known to moan on occasion about slap happy resealing here and there.

Thats a very complete S3 ed. Ive a few of those mods on my future mods list, such as the FMIC, KW coilovers, intake pipe and the PreX controller. How long have you had the car?

I wouldn't bother with the FMIC unless it's pretty hot where you are. It's pretty heavy and sits quite a bit forward from the wheels and so unbalances the car a bit. Needed the KW's to fix it :)

I've had the car since new in 2002.

Cheers, Ed.

Hi all!

I have just bought an Audi A3 Sport 2.0 (2003) after driving around an 87 Starlet for most of my life and am absolutely loving the difference as you can imagine!
Great to see there is a place to talk to other Audi owners in NZ.

I am wondering though.. and this may be an impossible dream.. is there a way I can get a few more horses out of the Audi without destroying the a) car b) bank balance or c) insurance premiums? Sorry if this has already been discussed but some of the other stuff talked about is a bit over my head and am not sure if it would be relevant to my model/year (not being turbo etc).

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I have already looked around in the forum and seen that Bavarian Motors in Glenfield comes recommended so thanks for that.

Sadly its not turbo no. I had a look at Superchips and yeah it looks like a chip from there would only get me another 8 horses or so which really doesnt seem worth it for $1,699! If its the commonly acccepted thinking that modding (whether chipping or not) for more power is just not worth it for a non turbo then fair enough.

I had the same situations with my N/A A4. Isnt worth touching the engine IMO

intakes and exhaust would be the first port of call i'd imagine, but may not yield much for the $.
Title: Re: A3/S3 Owners - Your cars please

Yeah an exhaust and intake would be your best bet. However the Standard Audi systems are quite good.

yeah, pay to check if it shares the same systems as the 2.0 tfsi or s3.
if not, could be worth getting a custom.

failing that, you could probably do a straight trade for a 2001 S3 if you get bored.. a lot more ponies and potential ponies in one of those.

Hi everyone, I've just become the recent and proud owner of an Imola yellow S3.  Currently attempting to bait cops and terrorise old ladies around the Dunedin area.  I'm not very good at it though. :(

(https://www.vask.org.nz/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi6.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy222%2Fcrazykiwibass%2FMiscellaneous%2FDSC02463.jpg&hash=77a30424910a2fe81b2c1114b5829a75567e5c94)

There are a few minor issues that have come up with it that I need some help with because I'm still not too familiar with what is 'normal' for this car.  I'm looking forward to finding some answers and avoid being ripped off by garages when I need to take it in.

2001/S3/1.8T/silver/face lift body and interior (154kw motor)

I would like to upgrade the chip but can't justify it as it goes pretty well as it is.

I would rather have a yellow or red one!

So, remapped my 2000 S3 and the turbo blew 3 days later. Replaced the turbo and decided to move on. After considering a Golf GTi or R32 I have gone with a 2007 S3. I was pretty set on a manual and wanted the extra horses stock.
Interesting how consistent Audi are with their interiors, very easy to go from the old to the new, everything in the same place.
Enjoying it and considering remap/suspension upgrade but more than a little gun shy after my last experience.
How many 8P S3 owners are there on the forum?

Yea An imola meet and cruise would be sick. If there's any solar orange drivers out there, I suppose we could let them partake.
Just installed my turbo back decat miltek and forge shortshifter. Used NZ Performance Tuning. Highly recommend them for anyone wanting to mod up their VAG. Han's and David, who run it, are enthusiastic tuners, and their after sales support is second to none.

2003 A3 2.0 FSI, Black, Tiptronic, 3 door. (8P1 Chassis)

Plans;
Rims, Pioneer Headunit, Sub n Amp, Tints, Blackout the chrome grille and badges, maybe lower?

Maybe a waste of money as I should just save up for the 2.0T.

Has anyone spent any time or money on this model?

I havnt seen many (only 2-3) modified 8P A3s around full stop. Depends what you want out of your car. If you want performance, dont waste any time with it. If you're after looks, you can get them looking pretty sharp with 2-3k wisely spent.
Find a cheap wheel & tyre package on trademe off another Audi (5x112 - 43 or higher offset, no wider than 8.5), get some entry level coilovers off ebay uk  (take into account $300-400 for certification) and wait for a grabone tint deal.

Hey Guys,

So i just wanted to say hello and introduce my car.

I have just bought a 2001 S3 8L Nogaro Blue

Over the last few weeks i have spent some coin on the cosmetics to make it stand out and i think i may have succeeded since owning have added:
-35% tints (thanks grab one)
-BBS LM-R Reps 18x8 (What a pain in the ass this was thought 5mm spacers would do it turns out 25mm were needed)
-Stubby Antenna
-Forge BOV
-Reset the rear springs and running lows on the front
-Full service and had everything checked over to make sure its running sweet as a nut

I am really interested into what everyone else has done to theres and to try and find out my different options of where i can go from here. I have been in touch with Hans from NZ Performance Tuning and he seems to know all there is to know about these things, he came back to me with a price for exhaust system, just keen to see what else you guys have done to yours and anything advice you would have?

Keen to look into:
-Turbo Back exhaust
-Front Mount
-Custom airbox or maybe a K&N kit???
-Have seen a few of these in Europe with an 8P front kit on it???

Will upload some photos on my profile cause i cannot do it on this post for some reason.

Cheers,

Bronson

Do full trubo back with 3" down pipe, intake and software to suit. Could do intercooler but not cheap

Hey all,

Just discovered this forum. Some great stuff here. I've got a TT, 2007. Nice car, but I've found issues with grip on wet roads - had it sideways this morning turning on to a motorway onramp; second time it's happened - and not going that fast. Proof I guess that  technology can't beat basic physics.

Could be your tyres on the rear arent the best? It was raining this morning if you're in Auckland so that would add to it of course.

If you really want to decrease snap oversteer. Buy front and rear adjustable sway bars and fine tune to suit.
Get H&R adjustables as they are the best combination of value and performance and dont need maintenance.
Should land them for $700-800 for both if you shop around overseas.

Start by setting the front to 'medium' and the rear to 'soft'. This modification will also have the side benefit of improving traction and reducing bodyroll drastically with minimal trade offs in comfort.

Thanks, the rears are reasonably worn; passed a warrant last month but nonetheless, not great. Yes, I am in Auckland and yes, it was raining this morning :)
I've ordered a new pair of Pirelli Rosso's which I'll fit later in the week. That should resolve it but if it's still prone to snap oversteer in the wet I'll follow your good advice. I wonder how adding sway bars would affect the magnetic damping?

cheers
R.

Hi, new here (can't lie, safari made it impossible to register due to these google safesite warnings, but got onto chrome)

I have a 2005 Audi A3 3.2 Quattro (DSG) S-tronic in black, it's the "s-line"
Title: Re: A3/S3 Owners - Your cars please
Post by: Project STi on July 09, 2014, 07:22:24 PM
I get the same warnings in Chrome.

Another new person, recently bought a 2005 A3 2.0T DSG sportback for the wife's new car. Just done the servicing stuff so far (DSG Service, cam follower) and upgrading the diverter valve to the later model piston type so far.

Have a few more mods planned (intake, exhaust, tune) to improve the top end power a bit and learning about these cars. I've come from a Subaru/Nissan background and getting a bit of a shock at some of the prices for Audi bits in NZ. So far buying stuff from ECS tuning in the states which has worked out well.

Will be keen to hear what reflashes people are running on here (but not going to pay APR NZ's prices, yikes!).

Changes i've made in the last three months:
Full DSG Box rebuild, mechatronics, new clutch pack, new rods, premium oil, (yes, cost about what the car was worth, but the box just failed on me, oh well at least it's under warranty.)
All new discs & pads all around
all new tyres
new air filter (k&n, panel)
new engine mount, spark plugs, service, aircon service /etc.
engine flush, run on 98 since.

It's a great car, they're starting to get really hard to find in good condition.

$$$ ouch!, could've bought a late S3

Spoke with HaNs today on the phone, top guy!

I've been on the fence about keeping / selling this car for a little while, In some respects it's been the bain of my existance, but on other occasions it's been some of the most fun i've had. HaNs pretty much swayed me towards keeping it, I was misinformed about the upgrade path of this car (that it didn't exist)

I'm going to see what HaNs can do with an ECU remap to start with.

HaNs quoted me a surprisingly low price for a 350hp turbo install/upgrade.
I'll track down a set of nice wheels, probably S3 wheels (in black)
and seeing as i'm already committed, I'll track down a decent shop who can do an outside only respray (and minor repair [one dent, one scuff] )

If anyone can recommend anyone who deals in wheels, or paint.. I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Sold the wheels actually, wasn't happy running spacers. Back to the good ol' Ronal 5 spoke 18s.

I bought the suspension as a package from a seller on eBay.de. It's 40mm lower than standard, which translates to about a 15-20mm drop over the sport suspension which comes on the 3.2s.

I've looked into front end options but as mine is pre-facelift I would need a new bonnet, bumper, grille, the works. Too much work. :)

Looks like I've moved over to the German variety. Bit older than most but only 53k on the clock. Hope the DSG holds together.
Dealer pic attached as will pick-up car in two weeks after roof has been wrapped.

Howdy all,

Just acquired a lovely 2014 A3 2L TDI S-line, pretty low kms.  After years of being a Holden nut I succumbed to the pressure of two Audis already in the family, an SQ7 and an RS3.  By comparison I am very much in the nana car league.  My wife has a very nippy VW Cross Polo.  Pics in due course.

No specific plans but to give both cars the respect and care they deserve.

Hi all, I am a newby at this forum as I have just recently purchased my Audi from my neighbour.

It is a NZ New '07 S3 3-dr with 6-speed manual. It is not chipped so is original with full service history from Continental Cars. I have been tidying it up cosmetically as the my negibour who owned the car for 9 years had not driven it much lately. I have just purchased a High pressure fuel pump cam follower, which I will be replacing just to be sure. I bought the kit from the US as it also had a conversion kit to replace the standard bolts with studs so that regular replacement of this part does not result in stripping the bolt threads in the cylinder head.

Also planning to walnut blast the intake ports soon. Next is a full service with Haldex oil change. After that, I am looking to do some cosmetic mods such as Honeycomb black front grille and possibly install some wheel spacers for a better stance.

Any suggestions welcome for my up-coming projects welcome. Looking forward to chewing the fat with you guys.

You've ticked all the right boxes there! What colour? Any photos?

NZ New, 2017, S3 8V FL, Tango Red Metallic.
Pretty much stock standard so far.
All I've done is do the free air intake mod, removed the ice grate restriction in the air filter, cut out the blockages in the front of the intake, blocked off the opening into the engine bay, put in a panel K&N in place of the paper filter, and res delete, plus silicone intake hose, larger intake elbow, and turbo muffler delete.
So just made it breathe in and out a little bit better, not enough to make any power improvements yet.

Next steps are to get Stage 1 (034 Motorsport or Integrated Engineering) home laptop OBD2 tune, tint the windows, maybe 034 Motorsport lower springs, wheel spacers.
Also due to change the engine oil, filter, DSG oil, and Haldex oil. Also RS7 plugs and RS3 Coilpacks.
