Title: MK5 Ignition Barrel
Post by: oem.minus on July 10, 2019, 06:19:46 PM
I have come to find myself the owner of a brand new, unused and untouched MK5 Golf ignition barrel that Giltrap's won't take back because of my cock up on what was wrong with my car. Anyway, I do have a query though; The service advisor (nice guy, think he felt a bit bad) said that each of the barrels are unique to the vehicles VIN, and for this reason they could not take it back. But, I thought it was the chip in the key that was unique and that this ignition barrel that I now own, could theoretically go in any MK5 Golf?
On the topic of Giltrap not taking it back, I spoke to consumerprotection or whoever they are and it was my bad that I now end up with it and Giltrap are not obliged to take it back, so I'm now wondering to see if I can onsell it.
He was nice enough to give me a good discount on it so on the off chance that anyone wants one...

If its cut to your key, which it probably is then it's worthless to anyone else.
I'm not at all surprised they won't take it back. If you ordered wrong they are not obliged to do anything.

Well that's what I would've thought when he said, but I looked and its got a different key pattern and comes with two keys in the bag (without the fobs, just the manual keys) Hence why I stand by my thinking it will fit to any MK5, and considering it shows on the bag they have had it in stock since November 2017, it isn't 'cut' to my keys
