Title: S6 Auto to Manaul Trans
Post by: veedubtom on December 27, 2004, 10:30:49 PM
Just wondering, how hard/expensive is it to change one of the old 5cyl 20v S6's from an auto box to a manual box?

Cheers
Tom

What are the auto ones like, they would be ok wouldnt they?  Also, how reliable are the 5 cyl 20 valve engines, and everything else one the car?  It has done 214000kms

Best to look out for a manual...the auto would disappoint.

Its just i have found one at a repo place that is fairly cheap, its a 1994 silver avant, and has 19 inch BBS CH wheels, this is probably the only one i would be able to afford, as it will be cheaper than a usual private or dealer sale

I guess if it is cheap enough then an auto S6 is better than no S6 and it is an avant which is a plus in my book.  Know the history of it and get it checked thoroughly cos you can very quickly lose the benefit of buying it at a good price.

What's the going rate for an S4, the last one I knew of was on the market for $19K, had done close on 200,0km with a comprehensive CCS history?

I meet the owner of this car a few weeks ago at Taupo race track, he races classic cars. The story behind it goes something like this: He paid I think $11,500 for it of a mate of his that worked at Team European, its got e cheap Repco pod filter and I think he had done something else to it. I did post up a pic in the last forum, I see if I still have it.

And here we go!

Have seen this car in Penrose several times, and towing a BMW race car. Looks real sweet. I agree a manual would be preferable but have never seen on for sale, they all seem to be autos?

It looks nice with the CHs, my favorite BBS wheel!

Stick to what you want - 3dr vr6 or sim.  Autos are puss. Do you want to drive it - or be driven ?
Look at the cockup called the RS6 & RS6+. Unavailble in good old manual. >:(

I wouldn't mind an auto if it was one of them :P

It's not a bad 'cockup' ... you have to drive one to appreciate that a manual may not be the best option for this particular car.
