Hi gents,
Here's a rare find. This is a South African 2L 16v which has never been registered and has only 298km since it was built in 1991.
Rumour is that the car was one of those units built as a test mule by VWSA and which was sold off to a dealership a few years ago. The mileage has been verified as authentic by VWSA.
It is also rumoured that the current owner is more than happy to part with it at a princely $40,000 NZD equivalent.
A pic from the front. I am trying to source interior pics and an image of the odometer.
Only $40k. :o
Wow. Nice to see pics but id take Antons lefty in a heartbeat over this and save enought to buy an ed30 as well.

I'd say, that's a very good deal - or profit - for the seller. Back in 1992, a brand new 2L 16V Executive sold for around R63,000 ($6,500 NZ at the current exchange rate). Although, I cannot confirm how much they paid for the car from VWSA... as previously mentioned, this car was sold the current owner only a few years back.
The only people in NZ that care about these South African built Mk2's are expat South Africans.
Asking $40K and someone actually paying $40K are two pretty different things.
I too am unconvinced it's worth $40K, but no harm in trying right. If you could find a way to put a letter box on it and give it an Auckland Post code you'd probably get $400K for it though.

Not really. I don't live in NZ. I merely travel back-and-forth every few months. I shared these pictures because this has to be one of the lowest mileage (if not the lowest mileage) mk2 Golf on the planet.
