Title: MK1 Scirocco's in NZ.
Post by: Omes on June 01, 2013, 04:24:10 PM
How many are there here in NZ still alive, whether sat in storage or currently driven? Auto or manual?

Please shed some light fellow enthusiasts.

Ones I know of already are:

- Neils ex silver
- Mikes Riviera blue (the one I want to save and restore one day)
- Mikes other one or two?
- Tristans Work in progress
- Tristans old one (now a shell)

It's just a facelift, key points changed are single wiper, turn signals, an then it's just cosmetic and engine options. Interesting that half the cars are pre facelift and half are post. The palmy car is pre facelift.

Pre or post? I thought that the plastic bumpers came on the later cars?

Good point. But has the dual wipers and earlier turns. Metal bumpers are only on early ones 75/76 from what I've seen. I wonder if there was a mix in 77/78 as vw changed over?

Maybe its like the equivalent of my Mk1 GTI? My car still is the older car (small rear lights, older dash and seats) but has the later plastic bumpers.

Just realised my posts hit 1111  ;D

Nik, answer is yes. I have an itch to restore one, prob the next car to own and work on since the mk2 is not far off completion now, should be complete next year. I want something a bit older next (as you get older you start to appreciate older cars i guess) and the mk1 Scirocco is for me the perfect candidate, have really grown fond of them of late and in all aspects really.

Time will tell...

Title: Re: MK1 Scirocco's in NZ.
Post by: wolfgang on October 22, 2016, 09:28:06 AM
The car needs full restoration but comes with a stack of parts such as spoilers, porsche rims and new interior bits.

What sold it for me is that it has no serious rust and hasn't been crash repaired, so what you see is what you get.

The plan is to get it road legal first, then full respray in the original indiana red, onto the porsche rims and fix those ugly bumpers.

I've got a bunch of parts for one of these.

Glass, light clusters front and rear, wing mirrors, other stuff.

I suspect it's mark 2 as the lights are the rectangular ones, like this:
