Title: VW / Audi Pump Duse Engine Oil New Zealand 504.00 / 507.00 Longlife
Post by: TDi Sport on August 29, 2009, 10:05:48 am
After a bit of searching I finally managed to have ordered in from Repco the correct oil for the Pump Duse engine.
Mobil 1 ESP Seems hard to find in NZ (IME) this can be ordered in either 1 or 20 litres.

At $22 a litre is far cheaper than the VW 505.01 spec.
This conforms to VW 504.00 and 507.00 spec so good for longlife service

Just need VAGCOM to switch over to longlife service

Repco's on Kent Terrace Wellington have stock.
Rob Kindly programmed my car for Longlife service, not done enough miles for it to show mileage to next service, will post results when it does.

Details of Longlife servicing can be found here
http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/assets/common/content/owners/Longlife_servicing.pdf

The car is setup for under the right conditions to be able to do 32,000 miles between oil changes.

Why on earth would you leave oil in an engine soooooo long??
Bad idea if you ask me.

I agree with vert, why do it when oil is cheap enough and such a small part of the amount of oil that is used in car ownership with the most part being the fuel they use.
Clean fresh oil will make the engine last longer.
Who needs a special thing to tell you when the oil is old when you have eyes and finger nails and a nose.

$600 for an Oil and filter service is the reason.
Admittedly I did do the service myself but still costs $220 dollars in parts.
It took longer to get the top and bottom engine covers off the car than change the oil.

Modern Synthetic oils are designed to do the mileage the same as the engines are designed to do 1000,000 kms before a rebuild.
If I do lots of short trips then the service will be as normal at 10,000 miles but I do a lot of runs from Wellington to the Coromandle so the engine is upto temperature for a long time which reduces wear.

But I do remember the days when My old Mk1 Escort needed a service every 5,000 miles and the engine was knackered at 75,000 miles, but that car was built in the 70s

Welcome to 21st century German Engineering.  :)

I don't worry about service schedules so much and just change oil if its dirty.

Great story for disaster, I have never been a fan of extending service intervals ESPECIALY is a diesel!
But each to their own I guess, our TDI gets serviced every 10,000K period!

Update:

After a long drive from Wellington to the Coromandle the car has finally figured out when the next service will be.

Interestingly after a doing short trips for a week the service changed to be needed in 17,000 miles but since doing the run home has gone backup to 17,600 miles.

So it seems to work just like the fuel computer changing to a longer distance on long runs compared to short town trips.

Will be interesting to see how it goes with my daily commute into town.

why don't you change your dash display to read in km's instead of Miles?
it's pretty easy with vagcom and about 3 minutes and you are done.

Hmm, i see you get 1200km's between fill ups?
i have only managed 1100km's to the km.

What diesel are you running in your car these days?
Also do you too have the AWX engine?

I'm used to miles so works for me.

I find that Caltex with Wynns Spitfire additive gives the best performance and best fuel economy.
The difference in mid range torque between not using the additive and with it is amazing.(gives me the same performance as Shell V-Power Diesel, sadly not available here)
Because there is so much more torque, you find that you use less throttle hence better fuel economy.

yeah i found the Wynn's diesel treatment down in palmerston north on sunday, put some in and drove the car back to auckland. Straight.
I have tried the Mobil diesel, and found my engine to be way quieter than with caltex diesel.

Will however try the shell V-Power diesel next, give it ago. All be it the first time in 15 years i have ever tried shell petrol/diesel ever.

I think the Shell v-power diesel we get here in NZ is just normal diesel like everywhere else.

Shell V-Power Diesel is not available in NZ and after speaking to Shell management wont be available in NZ.

Shell V-Power Petrol in NZ is only standard 96 octane where in Europe it is 98 octane

The only high octane fuel I found when I was running a WRX before the Audi arrived was BP Ultimate at 98 Octane.

Yes Caltex diesel is noisier than all other diesels but more kick and free to rev  ;D with a boost at 4000rpm in my engine.

There's Mobil 98 too and apparently Gull does a 98 octane ethanol mix or something...

I have been using Gull 98 almost exclusively in the GTI, it has 10% whey derived bioethanol, using otherwise waste products, so it's more sustainable than some of the other bioethanol sources

our local BP stopped selling 98 because supplies were not reliable and according to an earlier thread on VASK, Mobil's 98 is lower octane modified with a booster

Gull do a biodiesel blend in Aussie, but not here and some local Gull stations have a 10% bioethanol 91 blend

Gull Force 10 I think it's called, 98 octane with 10% ethanol.

Should be fine, but for your own peace of mind keep an eye on your fuel lines and any junctions in them :)
About the only general no-no is filling your car with Force 10 for the first time and then heading down to somewhere like Ruapehu to hit the slopes and leaving the car sitting in the cold.

Also, for those of you who think you're arse-dynos are in good order, Gull blind trialled genuine 100 octane fuel at all of its Auckland sites for 3 years... ;)
