We're spending a week in a Swiss skiing resort. Missus remarked yesterday that they were so many Audis around (it was rush hour, people coming back from skiing etc), so we counted.
No less than 68 Audis in 10 minutes!

Funilly enough, no RS4 in the lot. Haven't seen a B7 RS4 in the 2 weeks in Europe. Seems only Auckland is littered with so many of them.
I felt utterly stupid walking around in my Audi jacket (the one I got with the car, and the only piece of clothing warm enough for the conditions here).
Sounds a bit like China, except they have lots of s**tter ones like 2.0 A8's and 1.8 A6's. Saw a few 3.7 A8's, still not too sure what engine that would be.

Didnt like the RS4 anymore and i am not one for waiting around, i got the 996T at the right price and they are few and far between, it was the only one for sale at the time in NZ. When i say "Riptraps" its the parts they sell for 1000% mark up, ie RS4 maf to buy from Riptraps is $600 NZD, i bought a new one from the US for $67, i could go on and on, same with the service dept, i dont mind paying if its value, but when they pull your pants down, its no fun!I rarely go to EMD outlets for parts anymore, I've shopped online for years and even factoring in airfreight, costs can be up to 70% less than the NZ price. I suspect most of us on here do the same.

Spotted - Carbon fibre everywhere!
Just took a turbo AE85/86 out for a spin, and the owner didnt put the bonnet pins down on his carbon fibre bonnet. You guessed it, 70kph and wam, up it comes. Surprisingly it wasnt much of anordeal; stick head towards window, drive from what memory said road looked like, and just pull over. Didnt even do much damage, only burred corners of bonnet.
1st time for everything, so thats one more off my lifelong todo list :)

Yeah I guess they do sometimes. It just irks me when people start ranting about mark ups. Yes the parts are expensive. But after we give out a bit of a trade discount (which nearly everyone seems to think they deserve these days) we don't really make much profit on the parts.

Was all low slung, & painted matt black.. looked like a real sleek 124.. but it was dark, & I think it may have been an Alfa.. I just can't remember those models right now.. [It is a VAG Forum y'know :D]

The car you saw is a 1750GTV that lives in Kingsland - I have been admiring it for a long time.. it has widened steel rims and is nice and low. I think the guy has kept it matt black for a reason as it is easy to maintain when you have the rust bubbles creeping on that series. It's hot and the twin dellortos sound super sweet

The Gte you are talking about is mine and yes i was painting the spoiler at the time and it is now back on the car. along with painted front and rear bumpers and window surrounds etc... and no it will never sit on 24" Chromes or on air bags so dont worry, although it may end up spercharged in the near future. It was purchased off trademe a few months back from a guy called bruce. i have just made some mods to the exhaust and have added a k&n filter so she is runing well at the moment but would absolutely sing with a charger on it, figure it wouldnt be too hard having a mechanical fuel inj system and having a huge engine bay to play with etc... any ideas??

The boot in the Golf has the advantage that you can always take out the parcel tray and load it to the roof. Something that you cant do with a Vento or Bora

i did say that. mainly because he was saying that the 2.4 had a 3 spoke he thought it was s-line, i recalled seeing them get those from 98 on as standard, hence posting those other <98 NZ new A4's with 4 spokes.mines a jap import and it has a 4 spoke? i am assuming its either luxury or sports spec i swore it had the S Line badge at the bottom of the wheel? but i could be wrong

Don't know about HK but in Singapore, the road user charges are determined by engine displacement and runs into the thousands per year (e.g. 4.2L = around $5000 road tax) not to mention the actual Certificate of Entitlement (another few thousand). So, all the luxury of a big car, without the road user tax! In any case, they spend more time sitting in traffic than anything else anyway so, why bother with a big engine? ::)
Regarding the cars in China with big engines, you will find that a lot of it is just badging for status.
As for the driving, it seems pretty shocking at first but it appears to work! In my month there I didn't see a single accident. Gives you an idea of why they are such bad drivers over here though, they are all use to not following the traffic rules.
As for the gear changing, I didn't understand it either ???

Yesterday, non VAG, a red thing with Targa stickers. I didn't catch the Targa number but my wife said the p/plate was TTTTT, which Carfax says is a Levin, but TTTTTT comes up with the more likely result of a Cheetah.

Yep its a Cheetah. There's a couple that do Targa, the red one and a green one. I think they're HQ based(?!), usually with 350 V8 power. Don't know a great deal about them but they're pretty quick, judging by what I've seen of them and past Targa results.

Partner took me to A&E at Kenepuru Hospital last night (I carved the wrong bit of meat) in my GTI. Heaps of car parks, but she slotted in beside a charcoal coloured Golf. Wasn't till I got out of my car that I realised the Golf beside us was a GTI 30th Edition.

I used to drive in heavy traffic in the UK all the time. When we went on our last North Island road trip I drove all around the wops on those quiet roads, then we got to Auckland and it was five lanes full of cars, it was weird - I'd forgotten what traffic was like!!!

A friend of mine recently fixed up a 996 GT3 that was damaged from Singapore.
He put a really nice cage in it (painted the same soft grey as the interior), as he intended to targa it, had some exhaust work done but sold it to another targe nut.
That was truely a wicked car.

They use cam chains, not belts.Phew.
Well it didn't need to be dropped, it just makes the whole job 10 times easier. But yes, it is pretty crappy for this to happen so soon. It is often the way with new models though, teething problems and all that.So that is what they will be using when they service my R50 (after i win lotto...)
The thing they use to drop the engine is pretty cool, its like a huge hydraulic table that can lift up and down. They lift the table up, bolt the engine to it, unbolt the engine from the car then drop the table and the whole shebang comes down with it. If its a touareg or cayenne then all the front suspension set up comes down with it too.
So that is what they will be using when they service my R50 (after i win lotto...)

All current BMWs are RWD - the only exceptions are the Minis and I also believe you can get some iX (AWD) versions in some markets.

Red Ferrari 460 soft top just went past my office in Petone.
A VERY tidy Jensen Interceptor just went round the corner opposite my office. Sounded very nice when he accelerated away from the intersection. Pleased I don't have to pay his fuel bill though. Coming down the gorge this morning, a three wheeler 'motor bike' at the Newlands on-ramp. Bright yellow with red writing on it. Two front wheels with small guards (aka Lotus 7) and single back wheel. From the front axle line back, was like a normal (large) motor bike. no idea, it had two thick pipes running over the top of the head, both frosty to the look and touch, (no bonnet) apparently its in a NZPC several months back.
Im thinking it works similar to a watercooled computer (regular intercooler/radiator would be standard heatsinks, while the crazy system would be for higher temps)
next time he rolls into work ill politely ask if I can get a shot ;)

Saw John Stone crusing down the Southern on Sunday morning. The red URQ look very sharp.Ha, figured if I drove around the big smoke enough over the weekend someone would see me. Went to Ivy Rossiter's CD release at The Basement Bar on Friday night and good her music is too. Spent a lot of Saturday trying to source a replacement race tyre after banging the front left into an offcut of metal in a careless moment on Friday evening.
Spotted a lovely R50 Toerag in Welly on Saturday morning...I also sat in it and fondled the interior ;D

Wasnt ballins car as it wasnt white. Car had tinted rear lights also. Prob some vasker on holiday.Bah...those pesky Vaskers...
Have been spotting a very nice looking mk1 golf gti in black in hastings lately, looks very clean and tidy, sounds the tits too. plate is mk1 gti i presume its a vask member but didnt see stickers. Anybody know who it is?
I think it has an ABF or a 9a in it? Was/is a mechanic/painters car in HB. That's all i know. Was on trademe earlier this year for about 8k i think?

Dad spotted a red Porsche 959 today in Napier, carjammed it, its the real deal.
I've got a 1980's (Either 1988 or 89) NZ Car magazine with an article about a red 959 in NZ. It was one made for a sheik of some sort, with a red leather interior.
I think Colin Giltrap owned that car, Im sure his one got exported in the late 80's, early 90's.
The one Dad saw came into the country September this year.
