Does anybody know the differences between an Audi 3A and an Audi AAD engine

Both of them come in Audi 80 2.0Es and from what I can figure the AAD replaced the #A motor but I need to know if the block height is the same

Cheers

I think the AAD engine is 16mm taller

Thats what I thought as well but everything that I have found so far indicates that they are the same moter, I just cant find a reference to block height or stroke

AAD seems to be the same tall-block as the ABK and ABT that followed it after 1992:

fwiw, there is no difference between bore/stroke on the short and tall motors, anyway. The tall-blocks simply have a different rod-to-stroke ratio, (longer con-rods) which gives differences in torque.

the answer to your question therefore does not lie in the bore/stroke figures

ultimately, the answer lies in ETKA:  both the ABK (definitely a tall-block) and the AAD use the same con-rods #037 198 401 C

3A definitely the shorter "bubble block"
