Did some small jobs on the ur with my son while I'm home.
Removed most of the air-con system. It was not factory but rather fitted new at the dealer so was not a super clean, tidy install. Plus it hasn't worked in a while.
So much weight in that system.
Anyway, we've had amazing weather here in Dunedin over the holidays, so was fantastic to get the Audi out with the family for a few hours.

Nice!
That engine bay is super clean.
As far as I know there was never a factory fitted aircon system in the urq, they were all dealer fitted, though there are Audi aircon parts. The condenser is a weird shaped thing.

Funny thing is, I was only planning on replacing the horns.
Finally managed to get a hold of a pair of Hella snail units (the German ones) and went to take out the old ones which were sounding a bit tired, found them squashed up on top of one of the external heat exchangers for the AC.
That led to the Pandora's box of removing the AC system from the engine bay.
So much room now with the compressor/x2 heat exchangers/dryer/plumbing removed from the front end of the engine bay.
There's still the internal heat exchanger to get to, but that's for another holiday :)

Cool to see the young'un getting involved. Super important too. May his passion continue.

Have you watched any of the videos featuring the late Ken Block and his daughter Lia with your son? I'm referring to her urq build. While in a different league with the team behind her, an inspiration getting her hands dirty nonetheless.

Yes, I had been following the Blocks' Ur build.
As I work away from home, I make a concerted effort to spend as much time as I can when back in the garage with my son.
Even if it's just for the sake of tinkering. I'm uber precious with my cars (especially the Audi) but have realized over the years that they are also valuable tools in helping my son grow, so I get him amongst it.
