Hey!

New member here! Apologies if this has been asked a million times over. Picked up my 09 S3 8P on Feb 2021 with 76kms on the clock. Now has around 85kms. Have had most of the service parts done, i.e. belt/water pump, sparkies, cam follower etc. Only thing left is the chain tensioner and chain itself. Everywhere I read, it is a MUST DO when purchasing these TFSI engines second hand, so was wondering if anyone has had theirs done recently - How much $$$ (roughly) am I looking at if I get it done at an Indy mechanic? Any shop recommendations around Auckland that can do a good job at a good price.

Thanks in Advance!  :D :D

About 1500 with genuine parts and yes it's a must do. I've seen them fail as low as 55k km.
Where are you located?

Thanks for the reply!

Located in South Auckland - Any specialists nearby you know of that can check? Or any self diagnosis I could do? I know about the ticking noise to look out for, but with these noisy engines, it's almost impossible to tell  :-[

Thanks!

The Red Warrior

80 Vert (John) can actually do the work. (In case that wasn?t clear).
I?d recommend him and so would many others. You can see some of what he?s done on this forum and I believe also on West Worx Facebook page (I?m not on Facebook myself).

GLIDN

8P S3 has CDL engine,

cambelt an,waterpump and tensioners would need doing by now.

As for Cam chain and tensioner, parts are around $650, and a couple hours labour at most.
This is usually only required around 145,000kms or above.

can easily be checked with VCDS
